Robert D. Welch

Cuba- Robert D. Welch, 80, of Cuba and formerly of Smithfield passed away at 7:10 AM Sunday October 13, 2024 at Clayberg Nursing Home in Cuba.


He was born March 22, 1944 at Canton the son of Woodrow and Frances (Martin) Welch. He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are one sister, Gloria (Greg) Towles of Peoria, one brother, Dan (Rita) Welch of Smithfield, nephews, Mike Welch of Chicago, Josh (Ira Katzman) Welch of Chicago, Jake (Lacey) Welch of Astoria, and Joe (Angel) Welch of Smithfield, great nieces & nephews, Gracie & Bobby Welch of Astoria, and Piper & Billy Welch of Smithfield.


Bob attended Smithfield Grade School through the 8th grade and later graduated from Cuba High School in 1962. Bob was a veteran of the Army Reserves. Bob had worked at C.S. Norcross, US Post Office rural mail carrier sub, Excell Corporation and a over the road truck driver.


He loved and was a fan of all sports, especially the Chicago White Sox, and the Los Angeles Rams formerly St. Louis Rams. The St. Louis Rams held their pre-season training in Macomb and Bob enjoyed watching them train. His memory of sports trivia and records will be treasured forever. Bob loved trains and dogs and was known to have paused his routine whenever he heard a train approaching Smithfield.


Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday October 18th at the Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba with Pastor Ellen Dodd officiating. Burial will be at Baughman Cemetery at rural Smithfield. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services Friday at the memorial home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fulton County Humane Society.
