Alan Ray Ward


Trivoli – Alan Ray Ward, 58, of Trivoli, passed away at 1:59 PM on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center E.R. He was born on August 31, 1959 in Peoria to Wayland and Mildred (Tarvin) Ward. He married Diane Clauson on July 11, 1981 in Trivoli, she survives.
Also surviving is his mother, Mildred; two sons, Mark (Jessica) Ward of Fairview and Jake Ward of Trivoli; six grandchildren, Jacee, Jorden, Jaxon, Layla, Elizabeth, and Anthony; one brother, Todd (Karen) Ward of Lewistown, and one nephew, Andrew.
Alan was preceded in death by his father, Wayland.
Alan worked at Caterpillar in Mapleton. He was an avid motorcycle rider and one hell of a mechanic on Triumph Motorcycles. He was an outdoors man and loved to go camping and fishing. Alan loved his grandchildren very much.
Memorial service will be held at 7 PM on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Farmington, where a visitation will be held from 5-7 PM. Pastor Terry England will officiate. Judith M. Ziegenhorn Preston


Lewistown-  Judith M. Ziegenhorn Preston, 57, of Galesburg and formerly of Lewistown passed away at 11:25 PM Tuesday June 26, 2018 at Marigold Rehab & Health Care Center in Galesburg.

She was born September 7, 1960 at Canton the daughter of Vernon C. and Wanda (Hallar) Ziegenhorn. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Charles Ziegenhorn and one granddaughter, Sydney Marie Louise Avery. Surviving are three children, Billie Avery, Heather Peters and William Avery all of Galesburg, seven siblings, Carol Smith and Chuck (Cassie) Ziegenhorn both of Burlington, IA; Mary Ann Ziegenhorn of Lewistown, Wilma Ziegenhorn of Brooksville, FL; Jim Ziegenhorn of Lewistown, her twin, Janet (Rusty) Earnst of Galesburg and Rhonda (Joe) Coleman of Lewistown, four grandchildren, one great grandchild on the way and her dog Holly.

Judy was a housekeeper. She had attended the Crossroads Free Methodist Church in Lewistown. She enjoyed horseback riding, catching tadpoles, hunting mushrooms, and going to concerts with her sister.

Cremation will be accorded. Burial of ashes will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the family to assist with funeral expenses. Ronald A. Latimer


Canton – Ronald A. Latimer, 80, of Canton, passed away at 1:45 AM on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Heartland Health Care Center in Canton. He was born on April 12, 1938 in Canton to Hugh J. and Lola (Slater) Latimer. He married Patricia Ehresman on September 1, 1968 in Fiatt, IL, she survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Lisa (Larry) McMullen of Lincoln, IL and Laura (Chris) Cyrulik of Lincoln, IL; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Max (Lucille) Latimer of WeeMaTuk, IL; and one sister, Karen Wheeler of Canton, IL.

Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Larry Latimer, and one sister, Beverly Mahr.

Ronald was a truck driver for over 40 years, retiring in 2009. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Canton.

Ronald served in the United States Army Reserve.

Services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at Calvary Baptist Church in Canton, where a visitation will be held from 10-11 AM. Pastor Greg Ogle will officiate. Richard F. Campbell


Canton-Richard F. Campbell, 99, passed away on Saturday, June 23, 2018, at Sunset Manor in Canton.

He was born on May 8, 1919 in Cuba to Frank and Ethel (Yocum) Campbell.  They preceded him in death.

Surviving are his children Gregory (Marg) Campbell of Canton, Douglas (Kim) Campbell of Farmington, four grandsons, Lee (Stephanie) Campbell, Ryan (Jan Jacobus) Campbell, Seth (Elizabeth) Campbell, Colin (Caitlin) Campbell, one granddaughter, Megan (Eric) Callison, four great grandsons, Gage, Mason, Finn and Nohl and one great granddaughter, Sawyer.

Also preceding him in death are two half- brothers, Lyle and Virgil Pilcher.

Richard served in the Army Air Corp during WWII stationed in North Africa and Italy for 33 months.

He worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company retiring in 1981.  He was a member of the First Christian Church, Canton Country Club, Canton Elks Lodge #626 and the American Legion Post #16. 

A private graveside service will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery in Canton.

Oaks-Hines Funeral in Canton is entrusted with arrangements.

Melba Darlene Yerbic


Canton-Melba “Darlene” Yerbic, 85, passed away on Saturday, June 23, 2018, at her residence.

She was born on July 4, 1932, in Liverpool to Wilbur and Mabel (Lingenfelter) Raker.  They preceded her in death.

She married Andrew C. Yerbic on October 14, 1950.  He preceded her in death on July 17, 2013.

Surviving are her eight children, Dennis (Laone) Yerbic, Phyllis (Dan) Cardosi, Francie (Damon) Roberson, Sheila (Jerry) Henderson, Debbie Yerbic all of Canton, Patrick (Jana) Yerbic of St. Louis, Mark Yerbic of Canton and Paul (Amy) Yerbic of St David.  Also surviving are fourteen grandchildren, Jeff, Andrew, Noah, Nesa, Wayne, John, Jason, Aaron, Kara, Ryan, Amanda, Dustin, Marshall and Frankie and eighteen great grandchildren, Drake, Austin, Logan, Rex, Eric, Morgan, Gabriel, Curtis, Bailey, Joseph, Maggie, Cole, Colin, Kael, Madelyn, Jonah, Ava and Cade.  She has one surviving sister, Charlotte (Raker) Stambaugh and one brother in law, Bob Mace, both of Canton.

Also preceding her in death is one sister, Lorraine (Raker) Mace and one brother in law, Dwain Stambaugh.

Darlene was a member of St Mary’s Catholic Church in Canton.  She enjoyed watching the St Louis Cardinals and was an avid reader who made bi-weekly visits to the local library for her reading selection over the past 50 years.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, from 5-7, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton with a funeral service on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at 10 am at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at St Joseph Cemetery in Canton.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Food Pantry, St Mary’s Food Pantry or the Humane Society of Fulton County.  .

She was born on August 2, 1959 in Canton to Larry and Patricia (Bishop) Allard.

She married Jim Wilson on October 17, 1992 in Canton.

Surviving is her husband Jim, her dog  Cooper, her mother Patricia, four children, Brandi (Tad) DeRenzy, Sara (Scott) Flynn, Chuck (Melissa) Wilson and Larry (AmyJo) Wilson, one step - son Mike (Roni) Wilson, four brothers, Bret Allard, John Allard, Ravfe Allard and Bobby Allard, three sisters, Sheila Shawgo, Dawn Uryasz and Larri Daughtery, and eight grandchildren, Parker, Allie, Dawson, Corwin, Collin, Katie, Emily and Chas.

She was preceded in death by her father Larry Allard.

She enjoyed playing games and cards; most of all she enjoyed camping with Jim and Cooper and spending time with her family.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at 3 p.m. at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, where visitation will be held two hours prior to the service, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m.

William Goulding


Canton – William Goulding, 74, of Canton, passed away at 1:50 AM on Friday, June 15, 2018 at Heartland Health Care in Canton, IL. He was born on March 1, 1944 in Canton to Frederick and Elese (Gibbs) Goulding. He married Phyllis A. Matthews on May 16, 1965 in Canton, she preceded him in death on August 24, 2001.

William was also preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving are two sons, Todd (Jessi) Goulding of Le Grand, IA and Tyson (Kristin) Goulding of Canton, IL; five grandchildren, Trevor, Ryan, Brady, Angelica, and Zander Goulding; two brothers, Robert (Barbara) Goulding and DJ Goulding; and one sister, Sally White.

William retired from Caterpillar after over 35 years of service. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Canton.

William served in the United States Army.

Amey Jean Fink

GLASFORD ~ Amey Jean (Elson) Fink, 81, of Glasford, passed away at 9:05 a.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at her home, after battling breast cancer for several years.

She was born May 21, 1937 at home in Glasford to Archie and Janie (Clauson) Elson.  She married Franklin E. Fink on January 8, 1956 in Glasford.  He preceded her in death in 1991.  She also was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Tylor Gardner; two brothers, Marion Elson and John L. Elson; three nephews, Randy, Terry and John Wayne Elson and one niece, Carla (Elson) Pugh.

Surviving are one son, Michael Allen (Barbie) Fink; one grandson, Evan Franklin (Kourtni) Fink and two great-granddaughters, Tylor Faith Fink and Tessa Jean Fink, all of Glasford.  Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and friends.

Amey Jean graduated from Timber Township High School of Glasford in 1955.  After graduation, she worked at Methodist Medical Center of Peoria, in the payroll department for 42 years, retiring in 2006.

She loved watching her grandsons, Tylor and Evan, race from go-carts in her earlier years to watching Evan later race stock-cars and greatly loved playing with her two great granddaughters.  She also loved gospel music.

Amey Jean was very, very generous and giving, not only with many, many gifts, but also of endless hours and energy.  She also was very creative and talented, especially at organizing and decorating for holiday dinners, birthday parties, showers and many others.

She attended Kingston Mines United Methodist Church.  She also belonged to the Women of the Moose Chapter 470 in Farmington, Methodist Retiree Club, Glasford Red Hat Rockets and the Keystone Square-dance Club.

A special thanks to all family members and friends, Illinois Cancer Center, OSF Hospice and many thanks to niece and nephew, Cindy & Rich Watkins.

Her memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.  The Rev. Walter Wilkins will officiate.  Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral home.  Inurnment will follow the service in Lancaster Cemetery in Glasford.  Per her request, she was cremated.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Timber Hollis Fire Department, Kingston Mines United Methodist Church or to the Glasford Senior Citizens Center.

Shirley Louise Lockard


Shirley Louise Lockard, 100, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 12.  She was born Feb. 19, 1918 in Canton, IL to Dudley O. & Lucy (Baxter) Williams.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband H. Wayne, daughter Nancy (John) Browning, brothers Carl, John, and Gene, sisters Mabel and Roseanna, 3 nieces and 2 nephews.

Shirley is survived by her son David Lockard, Spokane, WA, son-in-law John Browning, Galesburg, granddaughters Susan (Dennis) Stieren, Joanne (Alec) Riss, great grandchildren Nathan, Benjamin, and Anna Stieren, and Connor and Caroline Riss, nieces JoEllyn Welch and Jane Williams plus several other nieces and nephews.

Shirley attended Canton schools graduating in 1936, then attended Brown’s Business College in Peoria.  She married H. Wayne Lockard in 1938.  Shirley worked 19 years for the Canton School District #66 as a school cafeteria cook and manager.  She was a Girl Scout leader for 3 different troops and a Sunday school teacher at Wesley United Methodist Church where she was a member.  Later, she transferred her membership to the First United Methodist Church of Galesburg.

Shirley and Wayne spent many happy summers at their cabin in Wisconsin and in their winter home in Mesa, AZ.

She moved to Seminary Estates in Galesburg in 2007.

Shirley was a kind, loving, practical lady.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held Friday, June 15 at 10:30AM in Seminary Estates Chapel, 550 E. Carl Sandburg Drive, Galesburg.  Per her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded through Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church Youth Renovation Project.

Patricia Ann Perelli


Patricia Ann Perelli, 95, of Farmington, IL passed away Wednesday June 6, 2018.  Patricia was born in Farmington, IL on March 17, 1923 to Paul and Alma Smith.  She married James Eugene Perelli Jr. on January 6, 1946 at the Farmington Methodist Church while Jim was on leave from the U. S. Army Air Corps.

Patricia graduated from Knox College in Galesburg, IL in 1945 with a degree in Music Education and piano performance.

After she and Jim were married they lived in Texas until his discharge and they moved back to Farmington where she taught school until starting a family and after that she substitute taught for a number of years.

Her husband preceded her in death in 2013.   She is survived by 3 daughters Cynthia (Brad) Kepple of Farmington, Lu Anne (Jerrry) Navarra of Morrison, IL and Sue (Jim) Dorrans of Park Ridge, IL; 7 grandchildren Amy (Will) Darnall of Tampa,FL, Joel (Sarah) Kepple of Bluffton, SC, Emily Navarra of Chicago,IL, Leslie (Andy) Deters of Camanche, IA, Mallory (Sean) O’Brien of Mt. Prospect, IL, Bill (Jill) Dorrans of Arlington Heights, IL, and Brian Dorrans of Chicago, IL;  5 great grandchildren William and Jackson Darnall of Tampa, FL,  Cade and Nolan Kepple of Bluffton, SC and Addyson Deters of Camanche, IA;  her sister-in-law Jane Perelli (Cec) Stinson of Lombard,IL, one niece Julie (Gerry) Glander of Orland Park, IL, one great niece Melanie Glander of Chicago, IL, one great nephew Tyler (Mary) Glander of Wake Forest, NC and two great great nephews Andrew and Thomas Glander of Wake Forest, NC.

Pat was a 61 year member and past president of Farmington P.E.O. Chapter AE and a 75 year member of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority at Knox College.  She was a member of the Farmington United Methodist Church and was a past Farmington Public Library board member.  Patricia was an avid bridge player and most of all enjoyed traveling with her husband Jim on many trips and visiting family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to the Farmington Central Academic Foundation / James & Patricia Perelli Memorial Scholarship, the Farmington United Methodist Church or Family’s Memorial Choice.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 23 at 12 noon at the Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Farmington.  Visitation will be at 11 a.m. one hour prior to the memorial service. The Reverend Walter Carlson will officiate. Douglas Freeman


Canton-Douglas “Fuzzy” Freeman, 83 passed away on Friday June 8, 2018 at Graham Hospital emergency room.

He was born on September 26, 1934 in Canton to Delbert and Alma (Shaffer) Freeman.  They preceded him in death.

He married Suzanne Kupel on May 4, 1957 in Canton.  She survives.

Also surviving are 4 children, Diane Freeman of Canton, Mark (Lori) Freeman of Wichita, KS, Rebecca (William) Skeen of Bloomington, Brian Freeman of St Charles, MO and a sister Joann Westover of Canton.

He was also preceded in death by 5 brothers and 2 sisters.

Douglas served in the US Army.  He retired from Freeman United Coal Mine.  He enjoyed motorcycles restoring old cars and making concrete ornaments.  He especially loved the old British car, Morris Minor. 

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton at 11 a.m. Oaks-Hines Funeral in Canton is entrusted with arrangements.

Joyce Bull


Canton-Joyce E. Bull. 75, of Canton, passed away Saturday June 9, 2018 at O.S.F. St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

She was born on September 27, 1942 in Canton, to John and Frances (Parry) Bushnell.

She first married Lyle D. Smith in 1959, Joyce later married Donald Bull on November 15, 1991 in Canton, he preceded her in death on October 16, 2005.

Surviving is one daughter, Laura Howarter, three step children, Sherry Spangler, David (Teresa) Shaw and Sheila (Donnie) Ogle, one brother Donald (Susan) Bushnell, one sister Sandi Belless and three grandchildren Zach, Christopher and Tyler

She was preceded in death by her parents, and one son Chris Smith.

Joyce was a caring and loving person, and a wonderful mother who was loved by all, She enjoyed taking care of her home and her flowers, she will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her.

A Graveside service will be held on Wednesday June 13, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be made out to St. Jude’s  Children’s Hospital.

William E. “Bill” Eskridge


Lewistown- William E. “Bill” Eskridge, 89, of Lewistown passed away at 10:55 PM Thursday June 7, 2018 at Graham Hospital in Canton.

He was born January 19, 1929 at Lewistown the son of Lawrence E. and Mary (Grigsby) Eskridge. He married Shirley Bowman on March 22, 1953 at Canton. She survives. Also surviving are two children, Larry Eskridge of Canton, and Shirley Jayne (Greg) Davis of Quincy, a granddaughter, Jayme Marie (Alex Adams) Davis of Quincy, one brother, Clyde E. Eskridge of Canton, brother-in-law & sister-in- law, Harold and Beverly Camp of Macomb and several nieces and nephews.

Bill was a farmer and had also worked for twenty years at International Harvester in Canton until the plant closed. He served in the US Army from 1951 to 1953 including 18 months in Korea. He was a member of the Lewistown United Methodist Church. Bill was a 50 year member and past master of the Lewistown Lodge 104, the Peoria Valley Scottish Rite, a 50 year member and Past Patron of the Ipava Order of Eastern Star, Lewistown American Legion Bishop Post 1, Lewistown VFW Post 5001 and the Grumpy Retired Old Men’s coffee group. Bill was an avid Cardinal fan. Bill enjoyed watching Cardinal baseball, coffee with the guys, nature shows, the family getting together, cooking on the grill and especially his granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday at the Lewistown United Methodist Church with Reverend Shane Smith officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown with military services conducted by the Lewistown VFW and the Lewistown American Legion. Visitation will be held from 3-5 PM Sunday at the Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with a masonic service at 5 PM. Harry Richard Vawter


Farmington – Harry Richard Vawter, 82, of Farmington, passed away at 6:31 PM on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at Unity Point Health Methodist. He was born on September 29, 1935 in Bevier, MO to Harry Lee and Edith (Gilstrap) Vawter. He married Patricia Wasson on June 14, 1959 at the First Baptist Church in Farmington, she survives.

Also surviving are three children, Allison Vawter Ossman, Lisa Vawter Sheffield, and Scott (Beth) Vawter; six grandchildren, Rachael (Jason) Rockhold, Joel (Sarah) Ossman, Nick (Madi) Vawter, Hannah Ossman, Jon (Brittany) Vawter, and Drew Vawter; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Connie (Paul) Bugos, and sister-in-law Alice Vawter.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Donald Vawter.

Harry retired as an electrician from Caterpillar after 38 years of service. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Farmington. Harry loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Harry served in the United States Army.

A celebration of life will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Farmington. Cremation rites will be accorded with Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Farmington, IL. Gloria Jeanne Hinrichs


Gloria Jeanne Hinrichs, age 71 of Vermont, IL, passed away at 11:00 pm on Sunday, June 3, 2018 at her home in Vermont. She was born on August 27, 1946 in Macomb, Il, the daughter of Don L. and Charlene V. (Harper) Snowden. She married James Raymond Hinrichs on June 12, 1964 in Vermont, IL. He preceded her in death on February 12, 2010.

Gloria was also preceded in death by her father and brother, Michael Snowden.

She is survived by her two sons, Andrew (and Amy) Hinrichs of Billings, MT and Chris Hinrichs of Vermont, IL, her mother Charlene Snowden of Vermont, IL, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, her sister Linda (and Russell "Buck") Bair of Ohio, her two brothers, Randall (and Mardeen) Snowden of Vermont, IL and Herb (and Kathy) Snowden of Table Grove, IL, and her sister-in-law, Lyndall Snowden of Vermont, IL

Gloria was a Home Care provider. She enjoyed crocheting, collecting books and Barbie Dolls.

She loved Elvis and spending time with her friends and family.

Gloria was everyone's "Grandma".

Memorial services will take place on Saturday, June 9th at 4:00 pm at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, IL Pastor Cody Stinnett will officiate. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the services. Memorials may be given in Gloria's memory to the Childhood Autism Foundation.

Gerald Grzanich


Canton-Gerald Grzanich, 83, of Canton passed away Tuesday June 5, 2018 at Sunset Manor in Canton.

Gerald was born on February 20, 1935, in Canton, the son of Steve and Audrey (McMullin) Grzanich, both deceased.

He is survived by one brother Gary his sister – in – law Dian, one Niece Susan Grzanich of Morton IL and one nephew Jon Grzanich of Canton.

Gerald graduated from Canton High School in 1953, he worker for Butler Manufacturing for eight years and retired from Sherex Chemical Company in Mapleton after 20 years Gerald loved professional sports, was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan. His true love was golf, he was a past member of Wee Ma Tuk Hills Country Club since 1960

A graveside service will be held on Friday June 8, 2018 at St. Joseph Cemetery in Canton at 11 a.m. a visitation will be held at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. Until the time of the graveside service on Friday June 8, 2018.

Elbert McMullen


Elbert McMullen, 95, of Bushnell, IL, formerly of Table Grove, IL, passed away at 3:56 am Monday, June 4, 2018 at Courtyard Estates in Bushnell, IL. He was born on February 10, 1923 in Pleasant Township, Fulton County, IL, the son of Elbert and Sarah (Emig) McMullen. Elbert married Theresa Hatton on April 24, 1952 in Havana, IL. She survives.

Also surviving are his 4 daughters, Christine (and David) Wiseman of Fenton, MO, Marilyn (and Jim) Hyde of Hardin, MT, Sandy (and Ray) Harrison of Troy, MO, and Barbara Adcock of Table Grove, IL, 2 sons, Kevin McMullen of Galesburg, IL and Keith (and Myra) McMullen of O'Fallon, IL, 12 grandchildren, Francine (and August) Appleton, Andy Cleer, Jimmy Reece, Jon Hyde, Josh Hyde, Trent Sutter, Dawn Sutter, Nicole (and Wes) Seward, Natalie (and Bob) Divan, Shelby Adcock, DVM, Sarah Adcock, and Christopher (and Lisa) Barber, 12 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by parents, grandson, Joseph Hyde, step-grandson, Brian Barber, brother, Loy McMullen, sister, Ferne Kessler, 2 half-brothers, Earl Gross and Mylo McMullen.

Elbert was a US Army veteran, serving from 1948 to 1954 with a rank of Corporal.

He was self-employed as a land improvement contractor for many years in and around Fulton County. Locals still enjoy fishing in the ponds he built.

Elbert was a past president of Illinois Land Improvement Contractors Association and a member of the National LICA. He believed one should be active and participate in your community. He was a volunteer fire fighter for many years for the Table Grove Fire Dept. and maintained their firehouse furnace. He served on the Table Grove Town Board and assisted the road commissioner in keeping the village roads clear of snow and prepping the roads for tar and gravel re-surfacing. Elbert also built the Table Grove Sewage Treatment area west of town. He was a member of the Table Grove American Legion.

In his “spare” time, Mac loved to fish and to help his kids with whatever remodeling project they had going or having a bite out with his “baby doll”.

Services will be held Saturday, June 9th, 2018 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Macomb, IL. The Rosary will begin at 10 Am with the funeral mass to follow at 10:30 am. Father Adam Stimpson will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 pm on Friday, June 8, 2018 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, IL. Interment will be in the Woodland Cemetery in Astoria, IL. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Forest Lea "Frosty" Nolan


Canton – Forest Lea “Frosty” Nolan, 89, of Canton, passed away Monday June 4, 2018 at O.S.F. Richard Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.

She was born on December 13, 1928 in Canton, to William and Helena (Helle) Smith. They preceded her in death

She married John Nolan on June 12, 1981 in Canton, he preceded her in death on June 5, 2001.  Also preceding her in death is her significant other Harvey Selph, three brothers and two sisters

Surviving are her children, Becki ( The Late Bill) Rettke of Colorado Springs Colorado, Bob (Julie) Riley of The Villages Florida, step daughter Francie (Buck) Maurice of Canton, three grandchildren, Jennifer (Jeff) Corron, Nicole (Adam) Stevens  and Zachary (Crystal) Riley, and four great grandchildren.

Frosty worked for Caterpillar as an accountant, she retired in 1982. She was a member of the Women’s Moose and the Caterpillar retiree club. Frosty loved her family and spending time with her grandkids. She was a lifelong baseball fan including being a diehard Cubs fan, she especially enjoyed spending time at the ball park watching her kids and grandkids play.

A Memorial service will be held on Thursday June 7, 2018 at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton at 3:00 p.m. visitation will be held two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at Orendorff Cemetery in Canton.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, or to the Richard Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.

Rick F. Pittman

Rick F. Pittman, 72, of Astoria, IL, passed away at 4:45 am on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at his home. He was born on March 19, 1946 in Canton, IL, the son of Richard and Bessie (McKean) Pittman. Rick married Linda Keller on November 29, 1970 in Macomb, IL. She preceded Rick in death on February 18, 2005. He later married Evelyn Gooden on May 23, 2009 in Colton, SD. She survives.

Survivors also include his step-son, David (and Kelly) Gooden of Kings Port, TN, step-daughter, Angela Curtis of Chester, SD, 10 step-grandchildren, 9 step-great-grandchildren, brother, Randall (and Carol) Pittman of Colchester, IL and his sister, Robin Pittman of Colchester.

Rick was a retired truck driver

Rick served in the US Marine Corps and was a Vietnam War Veteran.

He was a member of Grace Bible Church of Astoria and a lifetime member of the NRA. He enjoyed flowers and his garden.

Services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Pastor Ben Murray will officiate. Visitation will take place from 5 to 7pm on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Vermont Cemetery in Vermont, IL with military rites provided by the Astoria American Legion Post #25. Memorials may be made to Grace Bible Church of Astoria or Compassus Hospice in Galesburg, IL.

Stephan J “Steve” Thomas


Stephan J “Steve” Thomas, 64, of Astoria, IL, passed away on Friday, June 1, 2018 at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield, IL. He was born on September 6, 1953 in Beardstown, IL, the son of Willard "Pill" and Doris (McCombs) Thomas. Steve married Laura Rigg on June 21, 1975 in Ashland, IL. She survives.

Survivors also include his son Brandon J Thomas of Astoria, daughter, Shaunea L. (and fiancé Gary Nichols) Miller of Astoria, grandson, Alvin Tracy Miller IV of Browning, IL, mother, Doris Thomas of Astoria, brother, David (and Ruth) Thomas of Lewistown, IL and his sister, Teresa (and Doug) Knigge of Stoutsville, MO.

He is preceded in death by his father, Willard "Pill" Thomas.

Steve graduated from Astoria High School and became a barber in the early 1970's. He later worked for Caterpillar until he became disabled in 1989 with heart trouble.

He was an umpire for several years and also coached boys baseball and 5th grade girls softball. Steve ran the game clock for football, girls and boys basketball, and some baseball.

He was a member of the Bader Christian Church, where he served as a Deacon and an Elder. Steve loved fishing, bowling, golf and spending time with his grandson.

Services will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Steve's son, Pastor Brandon Thomas, will be officiating. A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 pm on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at the funeral home in Astoria. Interment will be in the Bader Cemetery in Bader, IL. Memorials may be made to the Bader Christian Church or the South Fulton Athletic Co-Op.

Gregory Ronald Moore


Gregory Ronald Moore, 64, passed away on April 12, 2018. He was born January 18, 1954 in Canton, IL to the late Mae Flowers Moore and Morris Moore.  Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Cheryl Moore; brother, Stanley Moore and wife, Vivian; daughter, Aubrey Brooks and husband, Carey; son, Carson Moore; stepson, Carl Bailey; stepson, Christopher Bailey; and grandchildren, Khristie, Tovah, Alysa, Chloe and Coleton.  Greg graduated from Texas A&M with a degree in Agronomy. His career included golf course superintendent, parks superintendent, owning a turf management company while living in Texas. He moved to Norfolk in 2011 to become the Division Head of Parks and Forestry for the City of Norfolk.  Greg loved hunting, fishing, and playing golf. He was an avid sports fan who loved the St. Louis Cardinals, Green Bay Packers and alma mater, the Aggies.
Greg was a fun, outgoing man. He lived life to the fullest, always thinking of the next great adventure. Greg loved music, especially blues and rock.  A funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at 11 am at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Canton.  Cremation rites have been accorded and a burial of ashes will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery in Canton.  Oaks-Hines funeral Home in Canton is assisting with arrangements.
