Brad A. Polhemus


Farmington - Brad A. Polhemus, 59, of Farmington, passed away at 9:47 pm on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at OSF St. Francis. He was born on April 11, 1956 in Peoria to Bill and Bonnie (Cady) Polhemus. He married Diane Kepple on July 23, 1977 in Farmington, IL, she survives.

Also surviving are three children, Jill (Steve) Witt of Hawk Point, MO, Jenni (Jay) Kuzniar of Canton, and Josh (Cindel) Polhemus of Mt. Carmel, IL; seven grandchildren, Jayson, Jake, Cady, Lia, Logan, Linzie, and Thea; and one brother Scott (Kathy) Polhemus of Congerville.

Brad worked as an Engineer at CEFCU. He was very active in Farmington sports programs including the Booster Club and coaching various youth sports through the years. He also was an avid Cardinals and Bears Fan. Brad enjoyed painting, photography and was also very artistic. Brad was a loving husband, father, and devoted grandfather.

Services will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Farmington. Rev. Paul Lee will be the officiate. Michael R. Strode


Fiatt-Michael R. Strode, 45, of Fiatt passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at the OSF St. Francis Hospital in Peoria.
He was born on October 11, 1970, in Peoria.
He was married to Tina Trail.
Surviving are his mother Audrey (Stoner) Strode of Fiatt, Step mother, Sue Uhland, two step children, Samantha and Ashlie, brother Mitchell Strode, sisters Jennifer Bobell, Candace Miller, nieces Megan, Jenna and Alexis and nephews, Landon and Lucas.
His best dog Little Bit also survives.
He was preceded in death by one infant brother.
Michael was a member of A.B.A.T.E.
A celebration of Michael’s life will be held on Monday, January 4, 2016, at the American Grill in Canton.
Cremation rites have been accorded.

Tina Marie Coulter


Yates City – Tina Marie Coulter, 46, of Yates City, passed away at 6:49 PM on Thursday, December 24, 2015 at her residence. She was born on December 13, 1969 in Peoria to Bill and Linda (Wells) Cassel. She married Ross Coulter on May 10, 1994 in Elmwood, IL, he survives.

Also surviving is one son, Ross William Coulter of Yates City; one brother, Robert Cassel of Yates City; one sister, Sherry Cassel of Yates City; and her mother Linda.

Preceding her in death is one granddaughter.

Tina was a member of the Yates City United Methodist Church.

Cremation will be accorded. A Celebration of Life will be from 3-7 pm on Monday, January 4, 2016 at the Community Center in Yates City, IL. Anderson-Sedgwick is in charge of arrangements.

Bob Stockman


Canton – Bob E. Stockman, 80, of Canton died at 10:55 p.m. on Monday, December 28, 2015, at Renaissance Care Center in Canton.
He was born November 20, 1935, in Liverpool to Orval C. and Grace P. (Perry) Stockman.
He is survived by two children, Scott (Jennifer) Stockman and Shelly D. Hogon, both of Canton; his longtime companion, Mickey Kirkpatrick; three grandchildren, Matthew Stockman, Scout Hogon, and Jessica Ossler; one great-grandchild, Easton Ossler; two nieces, Lorri (Mark) Pierson and Sandi (Du) Schneider; and one nephew, Steve Fleming.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister, and two nieces.
Bob served his country in the United States Navy.  He was a coal miner for Consolidation Coal Company, retiring in 1990.  He was a member of UMWA Local #7110, Canton VFW Post #16, and Canton American Legion Post #24.  He was also a past member of the Canton Moose Lodge and Canton Eagles.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 2, 2016, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, where visitation will be held two hours prior to services.  Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home following the service.  Cremation rites will follow, with burial of ashes at Greenwood Cemetery in Canton at a later date.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to Graham Hospital Hospice.

Rodney Yurkovich


St. David - Rodney J. Yurkovich, age 65, of St. David, Illinois passed away at home, surrounded by his family, on December 27, 2015.
          Rodney was born February 21, 1950, in Canton to Joseph and Eleanor (Williams) Yurkovich.  He married Kathleen “Kathy” Burchett on March 8, 1969.
          Surviving are his wife, Kathy, of St. David; his mother, Eleanor Yurkovich of St. David; son Joseph “Jody” Yurkovich (Bobbi) of St David, son Ryan (Heidi) Yurkovich of Lewistown, daughter Tricia (Mike) Keithley of St. David; thirteen grandchildren, Paige Yurkovich, Kate Yurkovich, Vanessa Yurkovich, Logan Yurkovich, Griffin Yurkovich, Addison Yurkovich, Dalton Yurkovich, Austin Weaver, Caleb Keithley, Lily Keithley,  Anisa (Keithley) Johnson, Arisa (Keithley) Orwig, and Grace Evans; one sister, Kim (Randy) Motsinger of St. David; four nephews, Kurt Motsinger of St. David and Kyle Motsinger of New York, Shawn Yurkovich of Arcola, and Todd Yurkovich of Fiatt.  He is also survived by his best friend since childhood, Terry Davis of St. David.
         Preceding him in death were his father, Joseph P. Yurkovich and brother, Daniel V. (Becky) Yurkovich.
         Rodney retired from Caterpillar after 36 years of service and retired from Kroger after 25 years of service.
Rodney was an active member of the community his entire adult life.  He coached little league baseball in St. David for over twenty years. He was a member of the St. David Optimist Club for many years.  He served on the Village of St. David board, the St. David Elementary School board and several years and currently as a member of the District 97 Lewistown School Board.  Rodney’s special project was for special needs children.
Rodney’s greatest passion was spending time with his family.  Rodney loved to vacation in Branson, Missouri and spent many vacation trips taking his grandchildren there every year.  He loved going to the sports events and all of the grandchildren’s activities. Rodney is a life-long member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in St. David.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, where visitation will be held from 1-4 p.m.  Cremation rites will be accorded following services, with a private burial at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Illinois Cancer Care, Peoria, or to Lewistown Booster Club, Lewistown.

Katelyn West


Canton – Katelyn M. “Katie” West, 19, of Canton, passed away on December 21, 2015, at the Graham Hospital in Canton.
She was born on January 4, 1996, in Canton to Donald J. “DJ” and Penny (Booth) West.
Surviving are her mother, Penny (Step father Rick) Osborn of Canton, father, DJ West of Lewistown, paternal grandparents Darlene West, maternal great grandparents, James and Alice Booth, Leroy and Ilene Davison and grandparents Richard and Colleen Booth.
Also surviving are her half-brothers Wyatt Osborn, Kody West, Austin West, Hunter West, Step brothers, Drew Osborn, Devin Todd and step sister Shyanne Todd.
Katie attended First Baptist Church in Canton and was aspiring to be an EMT.  Most of all she enjoyed spending time with family and helping others.
A visitation will be held on Monday, December 28, 2015 from 6-8, at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton with a funeral service on Tuesday, December 29, at 10 am, at the funeral home.
Burial will be held at the Shields Chapel Cemetery.

Barbara Walljasper


Normal – Barbara A. Walljasper, 77, of Normal, formerly of Canton, died at 6:14 p.m. on Sunday, December 20, 2015, at her home.
She was born April 10, 1938, in Canton to Archie and Geneva (Ashwood) Kaler.  She married Keith J. Walljasper on August 16, 1958, in Canton.  He survives.
Also surviving are four children, Mindy S. (James) Davis Butler of Glasford, Brian (Dana) Walljasper of GA, Mary E. (Chuck) Cools of Bloomington, and Jason K. (Karen) Walljasper of Abingdon; one sister, Sharon (Robert) Sharpe of SC; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one infant, Teresa Marie Walljasper.
Barbara worked as a Realtor for Prudential-Snyder in Bloomington.  She enjoyed watching western shows and was a member of the Epiphany Roman Catholic Church in Normal.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 28, 2015, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Canton.  Visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday afternoon at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton.  Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Canton.

Dwight R. Jarvis

Lewistown-  Dwight R. Jarvis, 91, of Lewistown and formerly of Havana passed away at 1:43 AM Friday December 18, 2015 at the home of his daughter at rural Lewistown.

He was born June 24, 1924 at Camp Point, IL; the son of Earl R. and Jessie B. (Fowler) Jarvis. He married Fairy E. Bloyd on February 29, 1948 at Palmira, MO. She died February 3, 2012. He was also preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. Surviving is two daughters, Lynn (Richard) Sipe of Kansas City, MO; and Rebecca (Charles) Shumaker of Lewistown, five grandchildren, Amy Sipe of Augora Hills, CA; Bob (Tina) Shumaker of Heyworth, IL; Leslie Shumaker of Lewistown, Joseph (Philip) Edelman-Sipe of Mission, KS; Angela (James) Parker of Bellevue, NE; five great grandchildren, Sam Shumaker and Lily Derry of Lewistown, Sydney Shumaker and Abbey Shumaker of Heyworth, IL; and Cash Parker of Bellevue, NE; one sister, Shirley Statler of Carthage, IL; and one sister-in-law, Darlyene Jarvis of Mt. Perry, OH.

Dwight was a retired grocery store owner and operator. He was a veteran and had served in the U.S. Coast Guard.  He was a member of the Illinois Street Christian Church in Lewistown. He was also a member of the Lewistown Lodge AF&AM 104, Illinois Valley Shrine Club, Scottish Rite Valley of Peoria, Alligator Club, Canton Elks and Moose Lodge, Lewistown VFW Post and Lewistown American Legion Post where he was past commander.

Dwight graduated from Macomb High School in 1942. He was an avid golfer and St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Cremation will be accorded. A memorial service will be held at Noon on Wednesday December 23rd at the Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Reverend Kenny Bloyd officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery where a military service will be conducted by the Lewistown VFW Post 5001 and Lewistown American Legion Bishop Post 1. Visitation will be held two hours prior to services at the memorial home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lewistown Carnegie Public Library building fund. Charlotte M. Baughman


Charlotte M. Baughman, 92, of Canton, passed away at 2:56 pm on Friday, December 18, 2015 at her residence. She was born on April 1, 1923 in Cuba, IL to Wesley and Marguerite “Marie” (Downing) Munson. She married Byrl Baughman on January 31, 1943 in Palmyra, MO. He preceded her in death on November 18, 2001.

Also preceding her in death were her parents and one sister.

Surviving are two daughters, Barbara (Lester) Ramsey of Basco, IL, and Nancy (Myron) Post of Fenton, MO; six grandchildren, Robert Ramsey, Julie (Ryan) Price, Andrea (Adam) Viitala, Joshua Baughman Wirsching, Jennifer (Byron) Graves, and John (Joni) Ramsey; five great-grandchildren, Anna Marie Viitala, Aidan Viitala, Rylie Price, Cameron Price, and Asher Graves; one sister, Eleanor Pollitt of Canton, and special friends Greg and Sue Henseler.

Charlotte worked as a bookkeeper at Duck Island Sand and Gravel and also worked at International Harvester Company in the purchasing department. She graduated from Canton High School in 1941 and graduated from Peoria Institute of Business. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Canton for over 80 years and church historian for many years, food pantry, and Kids Klub for the church, a board member on YWCA, past president and member of John Dean School P.T.A., past president and member of Home Extension Association. She was also a member of the Canton Woman’s Club, and Fulton County Historical and Genealogical Society. Her last words to her daughters “I love you all so much, I am a well blessed mother and grandmother”.

Services will be at 1:00 pm Monday, December 28, 2015 at First Baptist Church in Canton, where a visitation will be held at the church from 11-1 pm. Rev. Monroe Bailey is the officiate. Burial will follow services at Greenwood Cemetery in Canton. Family requests memorials be made to the First Baptist Church Food Pantry in lieu of flowers. Edna M. Polhans


Edna M. Polhans, 76, of Canton, passed away at 7:00 pm on Friday, December 18, 2015 at her residence. She was born on January 23, 1939 in Peoria to George and Dora (Foster) Whittington. She married Elmer Polhans on November 1, 2003 in Canton, IL, he survives.

Also surviving are five children, Crisy G. McMillan of Charleston, IL, Debbie L. Bellville of Canton, Tammie I. Mitchell of Canton, Kimberly A. Fischer of Canton, and Thomas W. Pemble of East Peoria; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several step-children, step-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren; and two brothers.

Preceding her in death are her parents; two brothers; and one sister.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Canton and was hard working.

Cremation rights will be accorded and services will be announced at a later date. Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements.

Vera I. Turner


Cuba- Vera I. Turner, 92, a resident of Clayberg Nursing Home and formerly of Smithfield passed away at 9:00 AM Saturday December 19, 2015 at the nursing home.

She was born May 13, 1923 at rural Fulton County the daughter of Carl and Myrtle (Rauch) Chambers. She married Richard R. Turner on June 21, 1941 at Palmyra, MO. He died January 25, 1994. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and one great granddaughter. Surviving are two sons, Dennis (Kathy) Turner of Lewistown and Gary (Joyce) Turner of Smithfield, five grandchildren, Jody (Steve) Young of Macomb, Kelly (Eric) Dettmer of Chanhassen, MN; Deanna Evans of Panama City, FL; Bianca (Paul) Miller of Browning, and Sabrina Edmiston of Lewistown, one sister, Marjorie (Kenneth) Stevens of Good Hope, and seven great grandchildren.

Vera was a homemaker, farm wife and care taker of many family members. She enjoyed being with her family and taking care of people.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday December 24th at the Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba with Reverend Larry Wright officiating. Burial will be in Cuba Cemetery. Mary Reeder


Fairview – Mary E. Reeder, 85, of Fairview, passed away at 4:50 a.m. Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at Heartland Health Care Center in Canton.
She was born on August 29, 1930 in Morgan Co., IL to Ruel and Elizabeth (Williams) Crouse.
She married Harold Reeder on December 19, 1954. He preceded her in death on February 15, 1990.
Surviving are four children Karen (Phil) Conlon of Fairview, Kathy (Bill) Downing of Fairview, Rhonda (Dale) Munson of Fairview and Randy (Cindy) Reeder of Webb City, MO, nine grandchildren Travis (Kimmie) Reeder, Paul (Jacey) Downing, Troy (Julie) Reeder, Kirk (Karen) Conlon, Heather (John) Turnquist, Justin (Elicia) Munson, Brent Munson, Brandi (Steve) Wright, and Kylene (Chris) Lewis, sixteen great-grandchildren, five brothers Robert (Delores) Crouse of Rushville, Kenny (Maureen) Crouse of Millbrook, AL, Carroll (Joyce) Crouse of Macomb, Virgil (Beverly) Crouse of Arkansas, Ronald (Nancy) Crouse of Fairview, and two sisters Shirley (Chet) Thurman of Norris and Patty Wood of Alabama.
She was preceded in death by three brothers James, Ruel and William.
Mary had worked for Mickelberry Meat Co. in Rushville and as an aid at the Nursing Center of Canton.
She was a member of the former Fairview Methodist Church, and a member of Roy Miller Post American Legion Auxiliary in Fairview.
She loved her family dearly and got a great kick out of watching grandkids sporting activities.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, December 19 at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, where visitation will be held two hours prior.
Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Fairview Rescue Squad.

Simon F. Melz


Simon F. Melz, 88, of Washington, formerly of Farmington, passed away at 6:00 AM on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at Unity Point Health Proctor Hospital in Peoria. He was born on September 28, 1927 in Trivoli, IL to William and Ida (Roelf) Melz. He married Edwanna Wright on November 1, 1952 in Glasford, IL, she survives.

Also surviving are two children, Crystal (Jim) Larkins of Chesterfield, MO, and Candy (Patrick) Simon of East Peoria, IL; three grandchildren, Alisun Sparks, and James and Drew Larkins; and two great-grandchildren, Michael and Annelise Sparks.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and two sisters.

He independently worked in plumbing and heating in the Farmington area for over 50 years. He was a member of Farmington United Methodist Church and was also the trustee for the church. He was associated with Crossroads Church in Washington. He served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War aboard the USS Harwood. Simon was a kind-hearted husband, father, grandfather, and friend to anyone he met.

Services will be at 1 PM on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Penn Ridge Cemetery in Rural Trivoli, IL. Edna Roudebush


Canton–Edna L. Roudebush, 93, of Canton, passed away on Tuesday, December 15, 2015, at the Red Oak Estates in Canton.
She was born on October 18, 1922, in Bon Aqua, TN, to William and Edith (Tidwell) Rodgers.  They preceded her in death.
She married Clifford J. Roudebush on June 17, 1942, in Bowling Green, MO.  He preceded her in death on February 3, 2003.
Surviving are her children, Rebecca Jean (Donald) Abbott of San Diego, CA, Rick Allen (Sonja) Roudebush of Canton, one sister, Allene Bacon of Washington, IL, grandchildren, Cassandra Lee (Aaron) Taraboletti, step-grandson Donald(Lucille) Abbott, one great grandchild, Palmer Lee Taraboletti, two step-great grandchildren, Alden and Catriona Abbott, and many nieces, great nieces, and great nephews.
Edna was a member of the First Baptist Church in Canton, the Order of the Eastern Star; Canton Women’s Club, a past board member of the Canton YWCA and a member of the PTA.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, where visitation will be held one hour prior to services.  Burial will be at White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton.

Nettie Simpson


Nettie Mae Simpson, 93, of Canton passed away at 10:40 am Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at Renaissance Care Center in Canton.  She was born on August 15, 1922 in Canton to Vernon and Gertie Games.  She married Newt Simpson in 1954 in Fowler, MO.  He preceded her in death on November 6, 2007.  Also preceding her were her parents, son Terry Cannon, and 3 grandchildren.  Surviving is 3 children; Mary Rose Cumpston of Canton, Stella Menne of Pekin, and Larry (Becky) Simpson of Lewistown, 9 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
Nettie was owner/operator of Arrowhead Café in rural Lewistown for 30 years.
Graveside services will be 11:00 am Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Waterford Cemetery in rural Lewistown.  The Rev. Surviving are his parents of Canton, six siblings Richard (Stephanie) Eskridge of Phoenix City, AL, Joyce (Ed) Sale of Springfield, Michael (Mary Jo) Eskridge of Canton, Cheryl (Ted) Bayard of Creve Coeur, Brian (Marnie) Eskridge of Lewistown and Brad (Jessica) Eskridge of Canton, and several nieces and nephews.
Buck worked in retail customer service.. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Canton. He was a graduate of Western Illinois University with a bachelor’s degree in social studies, and  enjoyed trains and railroading.
A private service will be held at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton.
Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Farmington.

Niven E. McVey


Niven E. McVey, 85, of Elmwood, passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2015 in Florida. He was born on August 18, 1930 in Monmouth, IL to Felix and Edna (Rockhold) McVey. He married Mary Ann Davis on January 22, 1956 in Stronghurst, IL. She preceded him in death on October 31, 2012.

Also preceding him in death are his parents; and five brothers.

Surviving are 4 children, Rodney McVey of Ocala, FL, Penny (David) Farley of London Mills, IL, Valerie (Charlie) Jordan of Moweaqua, IL, and Brian (Candy) McVey of Farmington, IL; 5 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and 1 brother, David McVey of Maine.

Niven was a Foreman at Caterpillar for 23 years and also farmed. He was a member of Farmington United Methodist Church, a member of the Farmington Moose and also the VFW. He served in the Army during the Korean War.

Services will be at 11 am on Friday, December 18, 2015 at Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Farmington, IL. Burial will follow the service at Trivoli Cemetery in Trivoli, IL. Rev. Larry K. Jarvis


Larry K. Jarvis, 62, of Canton passed away at 11:45 am Friday, December 11, 2015 at the Renaissance Care Center in Canton.  He was born on June 15, 1953 in Sterling, IL. to Ora and Joanna (Messmore) Jarvis.  Larry married Kim Andre.  Surviving are 2 children; Matthew B. Jarvis and Mollie Jarvis both of Canton, 4 grandchildren; Isabella Jarvis, Hoyt Jarvis, Laila Jarvis, and Gauge Barker, mother Joanna Jarvis of Canton, 2 brothers; Lynn (Phyllis) Jarvis of Canton and Chuck (Denis) Jarvis of Canton, a sister Judy (Bill) Leitze of Canton, and his former wife Kim Thunhorst of Springfield.
Larry worked at Butternut Bakery as a route driver.  He was a member of First Christian Church of Canton.
Larry had two abiding passions in his life-his grandchildren and the St. Louis Cardinals.  Rarely did a conversation take place without his mentioning this grandchild was “his special little buddy” or “she’s smart as a whip.”  He took great pride in telling people he was a grandfather.
He also took pride in telling people he was a Cardinal fan.  He showed his pride by wearing Cardinal caps of several types as well as a wide assortment of Cardinal shirts.  He showed his pride even further by having St. Louis insignias tattooed on each arm and would readily show them to anybody.  He always said he would live and die as a Cardinal fan.
Services will be 12:00 pm Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home in Canton where visitation will be 1 hour prior.  The Rev. Sandra S. “Sandy” Menne


Cuba- Sandra S. “Sandy” Menne, 68, of rural Cuba, passed away at 8:30 AM Saturday December 12, 2015 at her home.

She was born December 29, 1946 at Canton, IL; the daughter of Frank and Helen (Jarnagin) Ladda Jr. She married James A. “Jim” Menne on April 16, 1965 at Springfield, IL. He survives with one son, James R. (Diana) Menne of Madison, AL; two grandchildren, Aidan and Luke Menne, one brother, Andy (Beverly) Ladda of Royal Palm Beach, FL; and a special friend, Pam Gardner of Ashland, IL.

Sandy had worked at the Canton Daily Ledger, the former Ray Root Insurance Agency, and was co-owner of The Finishing Touch Furniture Etc. She was a 1965 graduate of Canton High School, and was a member of the Fiatt Independent Christian Church.

Marjorie J. Girard


Marjorie J. Girard, 88, of Canton passed away at 2:58 pm Saturday, December 12, 2015 in Canton.  She was born on August 24, 1927 in Pleasant Township to Chauncey and Ella Marie (Cross) Lalicker.  Marjorie married Kenneth M. Girard on November 30, 1942 in Palmyra, MO.  He preceded her in death on September 5, 2006.
Surviving are 4 children; Gerald (Anna) Girard of Wee-Ma-Tuk, Verne (Ellie) Girard of Jasper, GA, Marsha Bartlett of Canton, and Linda (Vernon) Thomas of Avon, 13 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren, brother Eugene “Buddy” Lalicker of Brimfield and sister Beverly Lalicker of East Peoria.
Preceding her in death were her parents, and 10 brothers and sisters.
Marjorie worked as a Nurse’s Aide at Graham Hospital for 25 years. She attended First Christian Church in Canton.

Rosalie Lacock


Canton – Rosalie A. Lacock, 54, of Canton died at 4:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2015, at Sunset Manor in Canton.
She was born October 13, 1961, in Canton to Minnie (Franklin) Boden and Timothy F. Lacock.  All survive.
Also surviving are three children, Marsha Whiteny, Troy Lacock, and Minnie Lacock, all of Canton; and three sisters, Iona (Donald) Bruketta of Canton, Candace Lacock of Canton, and Tammie Cook of MO.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Patricia K. Davis.
Rosie was a generous and caring soul who loved the outdoors.  She enjoyed fishing, camping, planting flowers, and gardening.
Cremation rites have been accorded.  A Celebration of Rosie’s Life will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 16, 2015, at the Canton Elk’s Lodge.

Louis Carrara


Canton - Louis A. “Louie” Carrara formerly of Canton, IL, passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2015, at Bethesda North Hospital, Cincinnati, OH.
Louie was born January 6, 1925, in Canton, IL, the son of Alceste and Zaira (Giovacchini) Carrara.
He married Helene (Flynn) Carrara in Canton, IL on January 17, 1948. She survives.
He is also survived by four children; H. Rebecca Canty (Raymond), Constance Ziegler (James), Jennifer Kaye Doyle and Louis A. Carrara, seven grandchildren; Quinn Canty, Megan Canty, Scott Canty (Lynsey), Todd Ziegler (Cris), Corey Ziegler, Carrie Ziegler and Ian Doyle, nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents, one brother; Anthony Carrara, three sisters; Sandrina Massino, Gina Baker, Mary Windsor and one granddaughter Jaclyn Kaye Doyle.
Louie was a US Navy WWII Veteran and served in the Pacific Theatre. One of several battles Louie was involved in was the Battle of Peleliu in the Palau Islands. After the war he went to work at International Harvester for 18 years. He also worked nights and weekends at the local radio station WBYS. In 1961 he left Harvester and opened Louie’s Dari-Castle where many young people enjoyed their first job and/or a trip around the establishment to meet up with friends. This later became Louie’s Restaurant. He retired to Santa Barbara, CA in 1973, but then opened the “Say Cheese Deli” on State Street in 1975. Louie’s second retirement was to move to Ohio in 2004.
He was liked and respected by everyone who knew him and enjoyed time with his family, golf and all other sports.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, 139 E. Chestnut Street, Canton, IL 61520.
Visitation will be held at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton on Tuesday, December 15, 2015, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. A graveside service, with military honors, will immediately follow the visitation at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Canton.

Charles Burton Reed


Farmington- Charles Burton Reed, 77, of Farmington passed away at 4:30 PM Wednesday December 9, 2015 at Unity Point Health Methodist, Peoria.
He was born in London Mills on March 14, 1938 to Charles Baker and Blanche Marie (Murphy) Reed.
Surviving are three brothers, James Milo Reed of Canton, Lyle “Tom” (Rose) Reed of Farmington, and Wayne (Nancy) Reed of Farmington; three sisters, Mary Briggs of Heyworth, Charlene (Robert) Bollinger of Farmington, and Carol Roberts of Farmington; one sister-in-law, Arlene (Reed) Laughary of Elmwood; twenty one nieces and nephews; and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, David, Daniel, and Clifford; one sister, Marilyn Cox; three brothers-in-law, Gene Briggs, Sam Cox, and Don Roberts; and one sister-in-law, Dixie Reed.
He worked as a contract laborer, farm hand, mowed lawns, and eleven years at County Market (formerly Day & Palin) in Farmington.
He was a member of Farmington First Baptist Church.
He was also a member of Farmington Moose Lodge 1571 and the International Moose Legion for twelve years, where he held the position of Inner Guard. 
Charles volunteered at the F.B.C. Food Bank, Farmington Food Pantry, and Christmas Hope Chest.  He also cleaned at the church and enjoyed his apartment meetings and potlucks.
He had a close relationship with his family and lived for family gatherings.  He also enjoyed meals at the Moose with his friends.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday December 14, 2015 at Farmington First Baptist Church.  Pastor Jon A. Dainty Sr. will officiate.  Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Farmington.  Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM Sunday December 13, 2015 at Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home, Farmington.  Moose Rites will conclude the visitation at 7:00 PM.

Doyle J. Smith


Lewistown-  Doyle J. Smith, 74, of rural Lewistown passed away at 9:33 PM Wednesday December 9, 2015 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

He was born March 17, 1941 at Canton the son of Harley D. and Louise F. (DeFord) Smith. He married Michelene Novak on April 12, 1965 at Warrensburg, MO. She survives. Also surviving is one son, David (Rebecca) Smith of London, KY; one daughter, Katherine (Jarrod) Beverly of Springfield, OH; two brothers, Donald L. (Sharon) Smith of Ipava, and Robert (Nina) Smith of Lewistown, one sister, Sharon (Murray) Swenson of Higbee, MO; six grandchildren, Lucy Ann Howard, Atalia Smith, Kanye Henry, Thomas Woo, Timothy Woo, and Melissa Woo, three great grandchildren, Kailyn Woo, Summer Woo, and Skye Woo, many nieces and nephews, and the many friends of his children who he considered adopted children. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Doyle worked at IH Navistar at the Canton plant and retiring from the Springfield, OH plant. Doyle was a veteran and served his country in the US Navy from 1960-1964. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lewistown. He was also a member of Canton VFW Post 1984 where he was past commander and past district commander. Doyle enjoyed gardening, listening to music on his computer and watching birds.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Reverend Larry Wright officiating. Burial will be in Apple Cemetery at rural Lewistown where a military service will be conducted by Canton VFW Post 1984. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to services at the memorial home. Beulah M. Wilkinson


Canton- Beulah M. Wilkinson, 88, of Canton, passed away at 6:13 PM Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at her home in Canton.
She was born March 22, 1927 in Glasford to George and Agnes (Sonnemaker) Clauson.  She married Bob Wilkinson on March 2, 1945 in Lewistown, he preceded her in death on March 1, 2009.
Also preceding her in death were her parents, two brothers, and four sisters.
Surviving are one daughter, Becky (Ed) Ketcham of Canton; three grandsons, Scott (Julie) Ketcham of Jacksonville, Jason Ketcham of Canton, and Patrick (Brandi) Ketcham of Canton; and ten great grandchildren.
She worked at Kroger and at Canton Florist with her daughter for several years.
Beulah’s life centered around her grandsons and family.  She also enjoyed working in her garden and on her home. 
Cremation rites have been accorded.  Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home, Canton is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial celebration will be held from 1:00-3:00 PM Saturday, December 12, 2015 at her grandson’s home at 338 Harvester, Canton, IL 61520.

Canton –Edward L. Patches, 68, of Canton, passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2015, at the OSF St Francis Hospital in Peoria.
He was born on August 27, 1947 in Hemingway, S.C. to William and Emmie (McDonald) Mathews.  They preceded him in death along with his adoptive parents Franklin and Fabell Patches.
He married Betty Hull and later married Michelle McGuire on February 23, 1990 in Lewistown.  She survives.
Also surviving are his children, Matthew Patches of Pittsfield, IL, Derek (Denise) Patches of Lakewood, WA,  John (Sheri) Warga of Massillon, OH, Anne (Dusty) Grzanich of Canton, brothers, Terry Matthews of Manheim, PA, Paul Matthews of Georgetown, S.C., Billy Matthews of Georgetown, S.C., one sister, Faye Reynolds of Georgetown, S.C. and seven grandchildren, Brittany, Tyler, Allison, Chloe, Braden, Courtney and Dane.
Also preceding him in death is two brothers Frank and Curtis Mathews and one sister, Diane Mathews.
Ed served in the U.S. Air Force and later worked for the Illinois Department of Corrections retiring from the Illinois River Correctional Center in Canton in 2010, with the rank of Major.  He enjoyed fishing and golfing but most of all he was a loving father and grandfather.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 13, 2015, from 2-5, at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton.  Cremation rites will be accorded following the visitation with a burial of the ashes to be held at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Canton at a later date.

Sherman (Bud) Kinsel


Sherman (Bud) Kinsel, 84, of Donna, Texas, formerly of Canton, IL passed away at 9:33 pm on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at his home surrounded by family. He was born on April 8, 1931 to Clarence and Mary (Whitney) Kinsel. He first married Jane Cozart, then married Selma Slater, and then married Linda Cramblet.
Surviving is his wife Linda; two sons, Sherman (Mary) Kinsel of Donna, TX, and Gary (Billie Jo) of Canton, IL; two daughters, Connie (Lee) Miller of Canton, IL, and Deena (James) Nielson of Groveland, IL; two stepsons, Robert (Birgit) Riddel of New Baden, IL, and Michael (Tiffany) Elliott of Kadiet, AR; 23 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert “Bob” (Lucille) Kinsel of Canton, IL, and William “Bill” (Reina) Kinsel of Springfield, OH; two sisters, Joyce (the late Ronald) Johnson of Canton, IL, and Doris (Ronny) Simmons of Browning, IL; many nieces and nephews; and second wife Selma.
Preceding him in death are his parents; first wife Jane; two brothers, Charles (Jake) and Clarence (Poke) Kinsel; one sister, Carolyn Saunders; and one nephew, Kent Kinsel.
Bud was a UMWA worker for 20 years, a Teamsteer worker for 10 years, and an Owner/Operator for 23 years. He was affiliated with UMWA, Teamsteer, The Elks, Eagles, and The Moose. Bud loved racing stock cars and horses in his younger years. He loved dancing and line dancing. He was an avid pool player and played in many tournaments. Bud always had a smile on his face and everyone loved “Uncle Bud”. He was our fireman for our big bon fires at the Kinsel Reunions and camping get togethers. He will be missed by family and friends.
There will be no services per Bud and Linda’s request. There will be a celebration of life and Potluck at 12 PM noon on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at the American Legion for family and friends to remember all the good times shared with “Uncle Bud”. Betty L. Weilbaker


Cuba- Betty L. Weilbaker, 91, of Cuba, passed away at 1:30 PM Tuesday December 8, 2015 at her home.

She was born March 1, 1924 at Ipava, the daughter of Glenn and Ada (Mason) Seymour. She married Vernon Mason Sr. in 1940. She later married Alvin Edwards  on May 24, 1947. He died Sept. 1, 1977. She later married Raymond Weilbaker on Nov. 25, 1982 and he died Feb. 3, 2000. Survivors include one son, Donald (Anna) Mason of Peoria, AZ; eight grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren, one god child, Patricia Ann Melow, four nephews, and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister, Willadene Melow.

Betty was a retired secretary bookkeeper from the former Alexander Lumber Company in Cuba. She was a member of the Cuba Christian Church, a 67 year member of the Cuba American Legion Auxiliary where she served as past president and county president. She was a 50 years member of the Royal Neighbors of America, past president of the Cuba Senior Citizens Board, past vice president of YWCA Lunch With Friends board, past president of the Cuba Democratic League of Women, and a member of the Fulton County Democratic League of Women, and had served as a judge of elections for prescient one in Cuba.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday December 16, 2015 at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba, where visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Patricia Ann Wright


Smithfield- Patricia Ann Wright, 62, of Smithfield, passed away at 9:00 PM Monday December 7, 2015 at OSF St Francis Medical Center, as a result of a cerebral hemorrhage, the final chapter in a long series of strokes and courageous recoveries.
She was born March 25, 1953 in Winona, MN, the daughter of Eldon and Mary Winnifred (Krage) Schramm. She married Robert Clayton Wright on June 9, 1973 at the Winona Church of the Nazarene. Robert survives with two sons, Andrew (Audrie) Wright of Portland, OR; John Wright of Boston, MA; one daughter, Stephanie (Matt) Oost of Peoria; and two grandchildren, Eowyn Wright and Anna Oost. Also surviving are Pat’s mother-in-law, Mary Ruth Wright of Smithfield, IL; her brother, John (Barbara) Schramm of Plymouth, IN; and sister, Mary (Alfred) Schaar of Stuttgart, Germany. She was preceded in death by her parents and her father-in-law, Clayton Wright.
After graduating from Olivet Nazarene University, Pat taught elementary and high school music in the Bushnell-Prairie City and Cuba School Districts, maintaining a lifelong membership in the Phi Delta Lambda International Honor Society. She was a highly active member of the Smithfield Church of the Nazarene for 38 years, serving at various points as choir director, worship leader, NYI director, Sunday school superintendent, VBS director, and organizer of many other activities for children and teenagers, whom she loved. She was an avid reader, a writer of choral arrangements, skits, and plays, and a performer in local ensembles. Her beautiful soprano voice was often heard in local church services, weddings, funerals, and as a soloist in Handel’s Messiah.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday at the Smithfield Church of the Nazarene with Reverend Dean Potts officiating. Visitation will be held Friday from 5-7 PM at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba, and also one hour prior to services at the church. Interment of ashes will be in Baughman Cemetery. Margaret K. Conner, 96, of Canton, passed away at 2:23 pm on Sunday, December 6, 2015 at Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Canton. She was born on April 6, 1919 in Orion Township to William D. and Pearl N. (Seybert) Hardesty Sr. Margaret married Gordon M. Conner on April 5, 1942 in Kahoka, MO. He preceded her in death on September 3, 1984.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Charles L. Hardesty, and William D. Hardesty Jr.; and one sister, Marilyn J. Wilher.

Surviving is one daughter, Bonnie Belles of Arkansas; three grandchildren, Tammy Belless of Arkansas, Sherry Maclaren of Arkansas, and Gordon Belless of Lewistown; and three great-grandchildren, Dominque Belless of Arkansas, Natasha Belless of Lewistown, and Jarel Belless of East Peoria.

Margaret worked at Proctor Hospital of Peoria and Graham Hospital of Canton in the nursing profession until she retired. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Nathan Rosenberger


Glasford-Nathan T. Rosenberger, 34, of Glasford, passed away on Saturday, December 5, 2015, at his residence.
He was born on September 22, 1981 in Canton, to Cynthia Lockhart and Marc Rosenberger.
Surviving are his daughter, Aubrey Baker, mother Cynthia (Jim) Hinchee of Canton, father, Marc (Cinda) Rosenberger of Dunfermline, Maternal grandparents, Betty and William Cannon of Glasford, Paternal grandparents, Gerald and Edith Rosenberger of Canton, brother, Ryan Rosenberger of Forestville CA, Uncles, Michael (Tammy) Lockhart of Glasford, Stan Rosenberger of IN, Brad Rosenberger of Forestville, CA, cousins Stephanie Lockhart and her daughter Clara, and Eric Lockhart and his son Cole.
Nathan served in the U.S. Army during Iraq Operation Freedom, where he received the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War of Terrorism Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Army Service Medal and the Overseas Service Ribbon.
He attended the Evangelical Free Church in Canton and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Association.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton from 5-7, with a funeral to be held on Wednesday, December 9, 2015, at the Evangelical Free Church at 11 am.
Cremation rites will be accorded following the services.

Warren H. Berkley

 
Lewistown- Warren H. Berkley, 77, of Lewistown, passed away at 6:18 AM Thursday December 3, 2015 at his home.
 
He was born May 4, 1938 at Lewistown, the son of Kenneth M. and Nolena (Morgan) Berkley. He married Mary Lou Van Etten on December 21, 1967 at Lewistown. She preceded him in death on November 27, 2015. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Kenneth M. Berkley Jr. and Marion Berkley. Survivors include two sons, Andrew (Christie) Berkley of Mason City, Daniel (Bethany) Berkley of Morris, three daughters, Holly Little of Jacksonville, Susan (Jack) Walden of Glenarm, and Christine (Bill) Sander of Phoenix, AZ; 14 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and one sister, Ina Mae Whitehead of Lewistown.
 
Warren retired from Caterpillar East Peoria Plant. He served in the United States Air Force from 1957-1960. He was a member of the UAW and was of the Methodist faith.
 
A visitation will be held Thursday December 10, 2015 from 5-7 PM at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown. Cremation will be accorded after the visitation. A private family graveside service with burial of ashes will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at Lewistown with military rites accorded by Lewistown VFW Post 5001 and American legion Bishop Post 1. Dale Pierce Jr.


Canton-Dale L. Pierce Jr., 54, of Canton, passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2015, at his residence.
He was born on April 23, 1961 in Canton to Dale and Ellen (Lefler) Pierce Sr.
He married Becky Davis on May 29, 2010, in Canton.  She survives.
Also surviving are his mother, children, Charles (Tonya) Davis of Canton, Michele Davis of Canton, Chris (Gracy) Davis of Canton, Sharon (Eddie) Anderson of Bushnell. Billie (Joshua) Gass of Canton, Kimberly Pierce of Canton, Joshua Pierce of West Haven, CT, Jacob Pierce of Canton, two brothers, Jeff Pierce of Burlington IA, Denny Pierce of Canton, one sister, Tanya Jack of Burlington, IA, seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Dale was the owner and operator of Pierce Construction.  He enjoyed spending time with his family at the Giant Goose Ranch, fishing and camping.  He also enjoyed riding his Harley.
A visitation will be held on Friday, December 4, 2015, at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton from 5-7, with a funeral service on Saturday at 10 am at the funeral home.
Burial will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery.

Rosemary Rogene Butler


Lewistown- Rosemary Rogene Butler, 89, of McPherson, KS; and formerly of Lewistown, passed away Saturday November 28, 2015 at McPherson, KS.

She was born January 3, 1926 at Ipava, IL; the daughter of John and Alma Grace (Warner) Holmes. She married Clifford Butler on February 14, 1953 at Lewistown. He preceded her in death on April 24, 1980. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Rodger and John (Jack) Holmes, one sister, Louise Wilson, and in-laws, Will and Ruth Butler. Survivors include one son, Vic (Denise) Butler of McPherson, KS; one daughter, Joni (Steve Boeke) Butler of Rochester, MN; sister in-law, Margaret Holmes, grandson, Nicholas (Angie) Butler, granddaughter, Amanda (Matt) Gregory, step grandchildren, Simon and Holly Pequeno, Clay and Jen Winter, and Garritt McConnell, twelve great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Rosemary graduated from VIT High School and attended Brown Business College in Peoria, IL. She worked at the Ipava State Bank, Farm Bureau, Berean Book Store, sold Avon, and was a homemaker. She was a charter member of the First Baptist Church in Lewistown where she taught the “Little Lamb” Sunday school class for 40 years and was a member of the Ladies Missionary Society. She loved to travel going to Israel, Hawaii, and the Bahamas.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday at the First Baptist Church in Lewistown, where visitation will be held Thursday from 6-8 PM. Burial will be in McNeil Cemetery at rural Lewistown. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church in Lewistown, Grace Baptist Church in Havana, Kings Highway Baptist Church in McPherson, or the Humane Society. Gary Little

Canton – Gary C. Little, 76, of Canton died at 8:32 p.m. on Sunday, November 29, 2015, at Unity Point Methodist in Peoria.
He was born February 28, 1939, in Peoria to Virgil and Frances (Cumby) Little.  He married Janet R. Hodges on November 22, 1958, in Jacksonville.  She survives.
Also surviving are two children, Brad (Wendy) Little of Portland, Oregon and Jeffrey Little of Kewanee; one sister, Dixie Little of Jacksonville; and five grandchildren, Bryn, Joshua, Kathryn, Jocolyn, and Jaiden.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Todd Little.
Following high school, Gary attended and later graduated from MacMurray College in Jacksonville.  While there, he excelled on the basketball court and was later inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame.  He taught business and accounting at Spoon River Valley Schools for 35 years, where he shared his love of sports as a coach in many of the sports programs.  Gary was an avid golfer and was a former member of the Wee-Ma-Tuk Country Club.  He was also very artistic and enjoyed doing crafts.  
Cremation rites have been accorded.  A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 3, 2015, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, where visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.  Burial of ashes will be held at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery in Canton.

Kathryn G. Craig


Kathryn G. Craig, 96, of Canton, formerly of Mt. Moriah, MO, passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at 9:50 PM, at Renaissance Care Center in Canton. She was born in Mt. Moriah, MO, on January 22, 1919, the daughter of Edmund V. and Alice (Lary) Taylor. She first married Garland R. Wethered on October 15, 1938; he died March 1, 1948. She then married Norval J. Craig on February 3, 1974; he died March 24, 1991.

Survivors including three nephews and one niece, Michael (Debra) Stambaugh, Steven Stambaugh, both of Canton, Mark (Melissa) Sappington, of Kokomo, IN, and Marcia Cardosi of Canton; one brother-in-law Wayman Sappington of Canton.

Also preceding her in death were her parents, daughter Donna Meinecke and sister Virginia P. Sappington.

Kathryn was a member of the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.

Cremation rights have been accorded. Burial will be at Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Mt. Moriah, MO, at a later date. Memorials can be made to Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home, Canton, IL, in charge of local arrangements.

Kathryn I. Walker


Kathryn I. Walker, 88, of Peoria Heights, passed away at 2:17 am on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. She was born on December 27, 1926 to Marvin and Opal (Brooks) McClouth. She married Donald G. Walker, he preceded her in death in 1993.
Surviving are two daughters, Cynthia Walker of Peoria Heights, and Lori D. Lafferty of Tucson, AZ; four grandchildren, Christopher L. Hibbard, Anthony Demott, Dustin Demott, and Brooke Lafferty.
Preceding her in death are her parents; one son, Lance L. Eggleston; and one sister, Ollidean Dailey.
Kathryn worked as a C.N.A. at Methodist Hospital for approximately 10 years; she also worked as a homecare giver.
Graveside services will be at 10 AM on Friday, December 4, 2015 at Mt. Pleasant, Apple Cemetery, in Rural Lewistown.  Cremation rights have been accorded. Betty L. Payne


Canton- Betty L. Payne, 91, of Canton passed away at 11:23 AM Tuesday November 24, 2015 at Graham Hospital in Canton.

She was born October 21, 1924 at rural Lewistown the daughter of Ralph and Tesse (Fitzhenry) Butler. She married Richard O. Payne on August 27, 1948 at Lewistown. He died January 20, 2013. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Homer Butler and two sisters, Lois Yocum and Irma Jouffray. Surviving is one son, Ronald Payne of Canton, one sister, Anna Delle (Bill) Camp of Lewistown, and many nieces and nephews who she dearly loved.

Betty was a hairdresser and opened her first beauty shop the Curly Que in Lewistown 70 years ago.  She later operated her beauty shop from home in rural Canton. She was a member of the Lewistown United Methodist Church. After retirement Betty enjoyed spending her time with family. She also enjoyed making quilts and braided wool rugs. Betty taught rug braiding too many people after her mother quit teaching. A highlight of the year was spending time at their cabin in Minnesota where she loved to fish.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday November 30th at the Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Pastors Monroe Bailey and Deryck Sonaram officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at Lewistown. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to services at the memorial home. Minerva June Black

Lewistown- Minerva June Black, 97, of Lewistown passed away at 6:00 AM Thursday November 26, 2015 at her son’s home in Beardstown.

She was born June 11, 1918 at Clark road in Liverpool Twp. Fulton County the daughter of William Henry and Sarah Amy (Stufflebeam) Clark. She married Thomas W. Black on June 10, 1938 at Ft. Madison, IA. He died July 18, 1990. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Glenda Black, one grandson, Steven Detrick, three brothers and two sisters. Surviving is two sons, Richard (Waneta) Black of Beardstown, Lyle (Barbara) Black of Springfield, one daughter, Marilyn (Bob) Detrick, of Easton, seven grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.

June was a homemaker. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church at rural Lewistown. She was also a member of the Ipava Chapter Order of Eastern Star and the Rebecca Lodge of Lewistown. June enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday at the Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Reverend Al Sample officiating. Burial will be in Apple Cemetery at rural Lewistown. Karl “Ewee” Elwood Ewalt

Canton- Karl “Ewee” Elwood Ewalt, 92, of Canton, passed away at 1:10 a.m., on Friday, November, 27, 2015 at Sunset Manor in Canton.
He was born to A.B. “Ben” Ewalt and Lucy E. (Cox) Ewalt who preceded him in death. He married Marlyn C. Nelson on July 4, 1942 in Farmington.  She survives.
He is survived by four children, Lana (Larry) Henderson of Lees Summit, MO, Karla (Danny) Polhemus of Independence, MO, Victor (Chris) Ewalt of Hanna City, IL, and Denise J. Meyers of Canton, IL.
Also surviving is one sister, Ruth Essex of Farmington, IL, eleven Grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are two brothers, Bruce Ewalt, and Paul Ewalt and 2 sisters Esther Feger and Eleanor Ewalt.
Karl is a US Army Veteran of World War II and was a member of the American Legion Post #16.  He was a 1942 graduate of Farmington High School, a member of the IBEW #947 and worked as a linesman for Ameritech where he retired from in 1989.
Cremation rites have been accorded and the burial of the ashes will be held at the Trivoli Cemetery at a later date.
Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton is in charge of arrangements.

Lewistown- Mary Lou Berkley, 67, of Lewistown, passed away at 5:40 PM Friday November 27, 2015 at her home.

She was born January 15, 1948 at Canton, the daughter of Franklin G. and Dorothy Maxine (Howe) Van Etten Jr. She married Warren H. Berkley on December 21, 1967 at Lewistown. He survives with two sons, Andrew (Christie) Berkley of Mason City, Daniel (Bethany) Berkley of Morris, three daughters, Holly Little of Jacksonville, Susan (Jack) Walden of Glenarm, and Christine (Bill) Sander of Phoenix, AZ; 14 grandchildren, one great grandchild, two brothers, Edward (Tracy) Van Etten of Mountain Home, ID; and Timothy (Lanette) Van Etten of Havana, two sisters, Carrie VanEtten of Rock Hill, SC; and Lori (Greg) Bainter of Portage, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Alan Van Etten.

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star where she served as past worthy matron. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women.

Ruby Uhland


London Mills – Ruby J. Uhland, 77, of London Mills died at 11:30 p.m. on Friday, November 27, 2015, at Renaissance Care Center in Canton.
She was born August 15, 1938, in New Canton, IL to Emil and Mary (Coulter) Kurfman.
She is survived by four children, Sheryl (Gregg) Johnson of Highland, Carl (Angie) Uhland of Liberty, Mark (the late Kathy) Uhland of Quincy, and Melissa “Missy” (Rob) Bauman of Fairview; her special friend, Howard Young of London Mills; three brothers, David (the late Carolyn) Kurfman of Quincy, Ronnie Kurfman of Payson, and Dwain Kurfman of Payson; one sister, Evelyn (Nick) Weisinger of Payson; seventeen grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, James Kurfman; and one grandson, Benjamin Bauman.
Ruby worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at various nursing homes throughout the area.  She enjoyed gardening, collecting antiques, attending her grandchildren’s sporting events, and going out to eat with her family and friends.  She was a member of the Fulton County Home Extension Association.
Cremation rites have been accorded.  A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 2, 2015, at the Payson Congregational United Church of Christ, with Pastor Dennis Gartung officiating.  Burial of ashes will be held at a later date at Payson Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Valley Sports Club.
