Burlington, Iowa – Archie Lee Allen, 71, of Burlington, Iowa formerly of Canton, passed away on December 20, 2019.  He was born on May 13, 1948 in Canton.  Archie married Frances Hesseltine.  She preceded him in death on July 1, 2015.

Norma M. Bitner

Trivoli – Norma M. Bitner, 93, of Trivoli, passed away at 10:08 PM on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at Farmington Country Manor. She was born on April 13, 1926 in Mapleton, IL to John and Naomi (Calhoun) Fletcher. She married Russell K. Bitner on December 14, 1947 in Peoria, he preceded her in death on November 30, 2003.

Norma was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother, David Fletcher, and two sisters, Lois Doubet and Shirley Hayward.

Surviving are three children, Wayne Bitner, Connie (Jim) Tresenriter, and Karen (Bob) Hughes; five grandchildren; one step grandson; three great-grandsons; and one sister-in-law, Charolette Fletcher.

Norma retired in 1981 from Caterpillar. She was a member of the Farmington Women of the Moose. After retiring, Norma loved to travel and play bingo.

Services will be held at 11 AM on Monday, January 6, 2020 at Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Farmington, where a visitation will be held from 10-11 AM. Rev. Jeremy Lafary will officiate. Judy (Julia) A. Thurman

Fairview – Judy (Julia) A. Thurman, 81, of Fairview, passed away at 5:43 AM on Thursday, December 26, 2019 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center. She was born on May 10, 1938 on North First Avenue in Farmington, IL to Richard and C. Viola (Abel) Wake. She graduated from Farmington High School in 1956. She married Cliff Thurman on August 18, 1957 at the First Baptist Church in Farmington. He survives.

Also surviving are three children, Brad (Debbie) Thurman of Bradenton, FL, Marcia (Kenny) Frew of Buckeye, AZ, and Cathy (Steve) McKown of Dunlap, IL; seven grandchildren, Bradley (Larissa) Thurman, Courtney Thurman, Randi (Jim) Shaffer, Tyler (Savannah) Frew, Emily (Matt) Beach, Jacob McKown, and Jared McKown; two great-grandchildren, Ashley and Sophie Shaffer; and one sister, Mary Page of Granbury, TX.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, Arnold, Donald, Lee, Bill, and David Wake, one sister, Margie Lou Plumer, and one grandson, Todd Frew.

Judy’s gift at the piano was recognized at a young age and she was playing for church services by age 13, and as an adult studied to learn the organ. She served others with her gift the rest of her life, playing for churches, high school musicals, weddings and celebrations of life.

In addition to raising a family and sharing her gift of music, Judy worked full time most of her life in various positions as a bank teller, secretary, travel agent and bookkeeper.

Judy had the gift of hospitality and she loved cooking special meals for family and guests. She will especially be remembered for her baking at the Holidays.

She grew up attending the First Baptist Church in Farmington and has attended Coal Creek Bible Church for many years.

Graveside services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Yates City Cemetery in Yates City, IL. Jacob Tourtillott will officiate. Kevin E. Williams

Kevin E. Williams passed away surrounded by family on November 29, 2019, after a short illness.  Kevin was born in 1957, to Eddie and Joyce (Nagle) Williams.  He was lovingly raised by his maternal grandparents, Harold and Mildred Nagle, while lovingly tormenting his younger Uncle Bill.  He is proceeded in death by his parents, grandparents, and his sister, Crystal.  He is survived by his wife Joyce, who he met while attending Kansas State University, children Erik and Kara, his Uncle Bill (Tricia) Nagle, numerous cousins, and 3 grandchildren.

Kevin and Joyce met square dancing.  Kevin said he scoffed at the idea of square dancing until his fraternity brother told him there would be girls there.  He then said, “let’s go!”  He certainly met a girl, Joyce, and they continued this dance called life through the next 40 years.

Kevin always set goals and achieved them with great gusto in his career, as well as life.  His latest goal was to run 100 marathons in his lifetime.  In the last 6 years, he had traveled all over the world and United States, completing in over 40 marathons, with his greatest cheerleader, Joyce, by his side.  His latest adventure was traveling to Switzerland to run 26.2 miles up a mountain and to Colorado for the Colorado Springs Marathon, where his grandchildren also competed in the children’s races.  Joyce wrote, “I often joked that Kevin thought he was superman.  He believed that nothing was impossible.  Work 12 hours, then run 10 miles?  Done!  Run 26 miles up a mountainside?  Done!!  Kevin's strong will never quit.  This amazing man wasn't really a superhero.  But he believed in setting the standard high, and he was MY hero.”

Kevin’s last job was serving as the Director for Studies, Analyses and Assessments, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C.  He was responsible to the Secretary and Chief of Staff of the Air Force for leading, carrying out, reviewing and ensuring the analytic integrity of studies, analyses, and assessments across air, space and cyberspace domains for the Department of the Air Force.  He implemented Air Force-wide policy and guidance for studies, analyses, and assessments to provide comprehensive, defendable, and time-sensitive processes that underpinned Air Force warfighting and force structure decisions and assessments.

Kevin received his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Kansas State University and was commissioned into the U.S. Air Force as a distinguished graduate of the Reserve Officer Training Corps.  He began active duty in 1980 with undergraduate pilot training at Williams AFB, Arizona.  As an operational fighter pilot in the A-10, F-16 and F-111, he had flying and command assignments in Iraq, England, South Korea, and the United States.  He retired from the Air Force as a Colonel in 2005 and was appointed to the Senior Executive Service the same year.  In total, he served the people of the United States and the Department of Defense with honor and distinction for nearly 40 years.

His tremendous efforts will ensure the Air Force benefits from the shaping of analysts who are ready to take on the toughest warfighting challenges of the future and provide meaningful contributions for decades to come.  Kevin will be missed by his military family as well as his biological family and friends.  He will forever be remembered as a man who never lost the “little boy” twinkle in his eye when he was being mischievous or ornery. 

Kevin will be laid to rest at a later date in Arlington Cemetery, alongside all our military heroes.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Wreaths Across America.  These wreaths symbolize a commitment to remember and honor our nation’s veterans through the laying of wreaths on the graves of our country’s fallen heroes.  The website is www.wreathsacrossamerica.org.

Cindy Sue Johnson

Canton – Cindy Sue Johnson, 54, of Canton, passed away Monday, December 23, 2019, at Graham Hospital in Canton.
She was born on August 30, 1965 in Rushville, Illinois, to George Johnson and Sandra (Blurton) Davis.
Cindy is survived by her husband, Richard Wages, her mother, Sandra, one daughter, Rebecca (Scotty) Johnson Clifford, two brothers, Jeff (Lisa) Johnson, Mike (Deb) Johnson, one sister Wendy (Todd) McGurk, two grandchildren, Justin Rumler and Lukas Rumler, two step grandchildren, Kalynn Clifford, and Connor Clifford, two nieces and one great niece.
Preceding her in death is her father George, stepfather John Sevtich, and one brother Robert Alan Johnson.
Cindy enjoyed country music, her favorite musicians were Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson. She enjoyed old movies, dancing, camping and fishing. She loved baseball her favorite team being the St. Louis Cardinals. Cindy always loved her cream and sugar with a little splash of coffee.
Cremation rites have been accorded with Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory in Canton.
A celebration of life potluck meal will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Canton from 12 noon until 3 p.m.

Benjamin Donald Barnett

Canton – Benjamin Donald Barnett, 87, of Canton, passed away at 11:41 am December 22, 2019 at Graham Hospital in Canton.  He was born on February 6, 1932 in Macomb to Estle Lloyd and Edith Faith (Poland) Barnett.
Surviving are his children; David A. (Marilyn) Barnett of Fairview, Robin G. Maddox of Hill City, MN, Joy L. Mestre of Kilgore, TX, fur lady Little Taz, step children; Carolyn (Craig) Dube of Oceanside, CA, Ronald Palmer of Iowa, D.J. Palmer of Littleton, CO, Billie A. Maggard of Yakima, WA, sister Ruth Howell of Canton, thirteen grandchildren, twenty four great-grandchildren and two great-great- grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers William Barnett, and John Barnett, and three sisters; Mildred Crawford, Barbara Myers, and Edna Williams.
Benjamin was a handyman and worked at the former Hegele’s Dairy in Canton and Producers in Peoria.  He was in the US Marine Corps from 1950 - 1989, retired as a 1st Sargent.  He was a member of VFW Post #1984 in Canton, American Legion Post #323 in Henry, and Elks Lodge #626 in Canton.  He was of the Baptist faith.

Freda M. Blair

Lewistown- Freda M. Blair, 94, of Lewistown passed away at 5:39 PM Friday December 20, 2019 at the Clayberg Nursing Center in Cuba.

She was born January 18, 1925 at Fairview the daughter of Joseph and Janet (DuFour) DeGulie. She married Ghlee E. Blair on February 23, 1957 at Canton. He died May 30, 1997. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and one daughter. Surviving are five children, Jane Williams of Cuba, Becky Ball of Fairview, Jacqui (Jim) Rilea of Canton, Sue Negley of Lewistown and Kevin (Anita) Blair of Lewistown, one brother, Joseph (Lucille) DeGulie, ten grandchildren, thirty- two great grandchildren and ten great great grandchildren.

Freda was an RN for many years working at Mason District Hospital, the former Clarytona Manor in Lewistown where she was Director of Nursing and retiring from Graham Hospital where she worked in the emergency room. Freda enjoyed knitting, crocheting and cooking. She loved to travel and she loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday at the Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Reverend Larry Wright officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Canton. Irene Jewel Hart

Canton- Irene Jewel Hart, 76, passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2019, at OSF St Francis Hospital in Peoria.

She was born on July 11, 1943 in Canton to Willis and Gertrude (Rodney) Brown.  They preceded her in death along with her husband Calvin Hart and son-in-law, Greg Brooks.

Surviving is her step mother, Mary Virginia Brown, her significant other, Steven Donohoe, Children, Justin Donohoe, Dylan Smith, Lisa (Dave) Ford of Mackinaw, Candi Brooks of Canton, Andy Hart of Little America, Randy (Diane Hasse) Hart of Canton, Margie Hart of Beverly Hills FL, half-sisters, Lisa (Bill) Stewart of Canton, Gina (Gary) Ball of Canton, three step sisters, fifteen grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. 

Irene work for various employers over the years last working as a caretaker.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Canton.  She enjoyed working on her computer, playing Bingo, volunteering for the Canton Special Olympics and was an avid Elvis fan.

Most of all she was a loving mother, grandmother, friend and loving pet owner.

A visitation will be held on Friday, December 27, 2019 from 5-7pm at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory in Canton with a funeral service on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at 10am also at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Canton.

Canton – Pamela K. “Pam” Rose, 57, of Canton, passed away Thursday, December 19, 2019 at the Loft Rehabilitation and Nursing Home in Canton.
She was born on October 27, 1962, to Richard Rose and Patricia (Varner).
She is survived by one son Shannon (Alyssa) Spillman of Washington IL, two brothers, Jeff (Lisa) Rose of Peoria IL, Greg (Stacie) Rose of Pekin IL, two sisters, Judy (the late Dennis) Blagden of Canton IL, and Renee (Jim) Gage of Canton IL, one granddaughter, Lilli Spillman, one step granddaughter, Abbey Forbes, and many adored nieces and nephews.

Dale Peterson

Elmwood – Dale Peterson, 80, of Elmwood, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 1, 1939 in Edelstein, IL to Leonard and Lavone (Horton) Peterson. He married Jean Lightfoot on September 16, 1960 in Farmington; she survives.

Also surviving are four children, Cindy (Mike) Daniels, Mike (Karen) Peterson, Linda (Darrell) Elliott, and Mark (Kim) Peterson; nine grandchildren, Kurt, Keith, Greg, Eric, Michele, Brian, Rachel, Haley, and Ben; six great-grandchildren, Adriane, Brayden, Logan, Owen, Morgun, and Avery; one sister, Gail (Nelson) Forbes; and one sister-in-law, Nancy Peterson.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Gene and Vern Peterson.

Dale graduated from Princeville High School in 1957. He retired from Caterpillar and also worked as a farmer his whole life. Dale was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Farmington, Farmington Odd Fellows, and the Farmington Masonic Lodge #192. He enjoyed downhill skiing and boating.

Larry Fred Bopp

Larry Fred Bopp, age 73 of Vermont, Illinois, passed away at 9:20 am Sunday, December 15, 2019 at his home. He was born on March 12, 1946 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Henry William and Alta Arlene (Kloppenburg) Bopp.

He was a self-emplyed carpenter and a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1966 to 1968.

He was a former member of the Astoria American Legion Post $25.

Larry enjoyed fishing and even worked as a guide for many years. He also enjoyed birdwatching, guitar and banjo music, especially bluegrasss, and working with leather.

He loved riding his horses, Blu, Montana, and Yellow and adored his dog, Bud.

Larry is survived by two daughters, Laura (and Brian) Dean of Astoria, IL and Kathryn (and Jimmy) Edlemon of Davenport, Iowa, four grandchildren; Staisha (and Jon) Oest, Casey Dean, Mallory (and Kyle) DeFord, and Abigail Edlemon, one great-grandson Gideon Oest, his brother Gary (and Margaret) Bopp of Astoria, IL, his sister Joyce (and Vernon) Welch of Bellevue, Iowa, a nephew and niece, Steve Cummings of Bellevue, Iowa and Sandra Bopp of Vermont, whom he made his home with, and several other nieces and nephews who were very close to him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother and his Uncle Fred Bopp, who was like a father to him.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial graveside service will take place on Friday, December 20, 2019 at the Davenport Memorial Park in Davenport, Iowa at 11:00 am. Steve Cummings will officiate. Military rites will be accorded. Memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.

John D. Stell

John D. Stell, 84, of St. David, passed away at 9:20 PM on Monday, December 16, 2019 at Graham Hospital in Canton he was born on February 1, 1935 in Canton, a son of Arthur and Maxine (Whitehead) Stell. He married Dixie “Pat” Sawyer on October 24, 1954 in Canton. She preceded him in death on October 10, 2015.

Also preceding him in death is his parents, and one grandson, Joshua Hackett.

Surviving are his children, Nancy (Lee) Hackett of Bryant; Brenda Stell of St. David; David (Debbie) Stell of Lewistown; three grandchildren, Beth (Jerry) Wallace, Karissa Stell, Nate Stell, and three great-grandchildren, Kaycee Roberts, Jacob Roberts, and Izadora Herche.

John worked and later retired from Caterpillar, Inc., was a loyal member of the UAW Local # 974, and member of the St David Optimist Club. He was an avid Duck and Goose Hunter. His greatest love was his grandchildren and his beloved dog, Fiona.

Gerda Crosetto

St David-Gerda Crosetto, 85, passed away on Monday December 16, 2019 at The Loft in Canton.

She was born on December 6, 1934 in Frankfurt Germany to Josef and Anni (Abel) Brehl.  They preceded her in death.

She married Lawrence Crosetto on March 11, 1961 in Lewistown.  He survives.

Also surviving are two children, Corinna Abel-Brehl of Coal City, IL, Marla Hawkins of Canton, IL and one granddaughter, Madelyn Diden of Edwardsville, IL.

Gerda worked for American Greeting Cards in Canton for 18 years.  She was a member of the St David Methodist Church and the St David PTA.

Fred D. Weaver

Hanna City – Fred D. Weaver, 84, of Hanna City, passed away at 2:54 PM on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at Graham Hospital. He was born on November 12, 1935 in Chandlerville, IL to Murray Weaver and Robertine (Garner) Bragg. He was married to Ann Ramige for 65 years. They married on September 5, 1954 at the Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria. She survives.

Also surviving are three children, Rodney (Pam) Weaver of Hanna City, Ward (Tina) Weaver of Batavia, IL, and Annette (the late Steve) Williams of Trivoli, IL; seven grandchildren, Steven, Brandy, Trevor, Grant, Joshua, Audrey, and Nick; fourteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one brother Don Weaver.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, one grandchild, Casey, and one great-grandchild.

Fred worked in the lumber business for 50 years being a branch manager at Hines in Chicago and owning Weaver Lumber Co. in Hanna City. He was a member officer of Timberlake country club, Hanna City Optimist Club, Hanna City Sportsman Club, and Hanna City State Bank. Officer of East Peoria Jaycee. Served on the school board for Hanna City grade school and Farmington School District. Vice President of the Hanna City Country Manor. Served on the Hanna City volunteer fire department. Fred enjoyed playing golf, watching sports, and watching the Chicago Cubs win the World Series. Fred always stated that he couldn’t have done all of the things without the help from the love of his life, Ann.

Services will be held at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Farmington. A visitation will be held from 2-4 PM before the service. Canton - Elizabeth Ann Stanfel, 80, of Canton, passed away Saturday, December 14, 2019 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.  She was born on November 6, 1939 in Canton to Frank J. and Sylvia (Franciskovich) Stanfel.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Frankie Stanfel.  Surviving are several cousins.
Elizabeth worked for Peoria School District 150 as a teacher at Harrison, Longfellow, and KIingman Schools.  She was a member of Peoria area retired teachers, Illinois retired teachers, and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Canton.

Peggy A. Cruise

Farmington – Peggy A. Cruise, 64, of Farmington, passed away at 4:37 PM on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at Unity Point Health Methodist. She was born on June 20, 1955 in Canton to Dean and Doris (Archdale) Walters. She married John Cruise on June 19, 1992 in Farmington; he survives.

Also surviving is her mother Doris; one daughter, Kristina Anthony of Elmwood; one granddaughter, Madison Anthony; two brothers, Harold (Brandy) Walters of Canton and Mike (Anna Duke) Walters of IN; one sister, Karen Kenney of Farmington; and several nieces and nephews.

Peggy was preceded in death by her father.

Peggy was a member of the Farmington Women of the Moose. She was a loving wife, mother, grandma and truly just loved to take care of kids.

Norma J. Reid

Norma J. Reid, 87, of Canton, formerly of Birmingham, Alabama passed away at 7:15 PM on Friday, December 6, 2019 at Farmington Country Manor in Farmington. She was born on January 18, 1932 in Manhattan, New York, a daughter of Charles and Carmen Vega.

Surviving is her children, Richard (Patty) Reid of Canton; James and Travis King; Lillia Curran; two grandchildren, Melissa and Jared, and a beloved niece, Linda Cino.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Charles and Joseph, and one sister.

Norma was a homemaker, and of the Catholic Faith, where she served her faith by being a Carmelite Nun for over 40 years.

Janet Chambers

Macomb - Janet Chambers, 85, of Macomb, passed away Saturday, December 7, 2019 at Wesley Village in Macomb.
She was born on August 30, 1934, in Canton, to Charles B. and Laura M. (Bohannan) Hammond.
She is survived by her husband David Chambers, whom she married on January 18, 1954 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Canton.
Also surviving are five children, Brad (Kathy) Chambers, Linc (Pat) Chambers, Darren (Kathy) Chambers, Chris (Vicki) Chambers, and Rachel (Ben) Liechti, one brother Charles Junior Hammond, six grandchildren, Jessie, Jenni, Jessica, Shane, Mallory, and Hannah and seven great grandchildren, Emmett, Jack, Emma, Nora Kate, Madeline, Roman, and Riden.
Preceding her in death are her parents, and one brother Robert Hammond.
When Janet and David first married, she worked as a trained beautician, later she enjoyed cutting and styling her friends and family's hair for all her life. Janet and David owned and operated Prairieland Rentals from 1975 until 1999, where she enjoyed many years of wedding planning. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Macomb, she enjoyed crafting, antiques, baking and reading. Janet enjoyed time around the holidays, but most of all she loved and cherished spending time with all of her family.

Vivian E. Kauzlarich

Canton – Vivian E. Kauzlarich, 91, of Canton, passed away at 11:59 PM on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at Graham Hospital E.R. She was born on October 9, 1928 in Fiatt, IL to Vernice Gilbert and Nettie Pearl (Sauerwein) Harr. She married Joseph A. Kauzlarich on July 8, 1950, he preceded her in death on March 11, 1998.

Vivian was also preceded in death by her parents and was the last living siblings of eleven.

Surviving are two daughters, Roxanna (Ed) Kuebler of Hanna City and Ricarda (Jeff) Durrant of Slidell, LA; two grandchildren, Creighton Durrant and Mikaela (Aaron) Miller; one future great-grandchild in the spring; and her cat, Pickles.

Vivian worked in the Cafeteria for Canton Union School District #66. She loved ceramics, oil painting, cooking, crafts, gardening, and reading. Vivian was a special mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend.

Ruth Helen Essex

Farmington – Ruth Helen Essex, 90, of Farmington, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family’s love on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at Farmington Country Manor from pneumonia and cerebral amyloid angiopathy due to Alzheimer’s. She was born on August 8, 1929 in Peoria, the youngest child of Ben and Lucy (Cox) Ewalt. She married John H. Essex on November 26, 1950 at the Farmington United Methodist Church, he preceded her in death on June 2, 2002. The family prefers to think she was waiting all week to join her husband at his heavenly birthday party. What an entrance that must have been.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons, Jeff and Jayson Essex, three brothers, Bruce, Paul, and Elwood, and two sisters, Eleanor and Esther.

Surviving are three children, Jennifer (Mark) Andrews of Trivoli, Joel Essex of Farmington, and Judy Essex of Canton; two daughters-in-law, Mary Essex Brennan and Candis Essex Fralick; seven grandchildren, Nathan (Cindy), Jared (Kelly), Chad (Jesse), Kyle (Laura), McKenzie (Brad), Jade, and Justin; nine great-grandchildren, Trinity, Hannah, Ava, Quinn, Coraline, Ben, Bekah, Ella, and Brogan; sister-in-law, Marlyn Ewalt of Canton; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; beloved childhood friend, Bobbi Routson; and beloved friend and Farmington Country Manor roommate, Carol Danz.

Ruth was a lifelong resident of Farmington. She graduated from Farmington High School in 1949. She worked for Block and Kuhl in Peoria after high school and then met John and married him the following fall. Ruth was a dedicated mother to her 5-J’s even though she would at times spout out the wrong sibling’s name, which made everyone laugh. She never missed a sporting event, music or band concerts, school plays and was a room mother for over 12 years straight.

Ruth has an infectious smile that drew strangers in. She was well known for her cooking, baking, and decorating skills. She was a 50-year member of the Farmington Women of the Moose and Daughters of Rebekah Lodge. Ruth enjoyed her retirement years with her husband and family at their cabin on the Mississippi River fishing and sitting around bonfires laughing and passing down stories to cherish.

Diane Marie Frisell

Canton - Diane Marie Frisell, 78, of Canton, passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at Renaissance Care Center in Canton.

She was born on September 1, 1941 in Chicago, IL to Emidigio and Sylvia (Kotila) Angellotti. She married Drake Frisell on July 28, 1962 in Chicago. He preceded her in death on October 27, 2006. She was also preceded in death by her parents, brother, Don Angellotti, and nephew Bobby Stowell.

Surviving are three children, Keith (Ann) Frisell of Peshtigo, WI, Craig (Gary Weaver) Frisell of Chicago, and Tina (Dave) Howell of Canton, grandchildren, Jesse (Melissa Griffin) Derry, Christian (Michelle Armstrong) Howell, Ethan, Nico, and Katelyn Frisell, brothers, Tom Angellotti, Dennis Angellotti, Ken Angellotti, Dale Angellotti, sisters, Arlene (the late Robert) Stowell, Debby (the late William) Hedrick, Mary Plaza, Karen Orlando, Luann (Al) Haisman, one sister-in-law, Barbara Angellotti and many Nieces, Nephews, Great-Nieces, and Great-Nephews.

Diane was the oldest of ten children. She retired from Baxter in Round Lake, IL in 2005. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Canton. She enjoyed spending time with family, traveling, singing with her brother, playing bingo, cards, and board games. She was an avid Bears and Cubs fan. She loved music, especially Elvis. She enjoyed seeing Elvis impersonator, Junior Talley, perform several times. Most of all, she lived her life to the fullest and loved her family and friends with all of her heart.

A private service will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery in Canton.  A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Canton – Vernon H. Kapala, 90, passed away on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at Unity Point Methodist in Peoria.

He was born on March 10, 1929 in Rockford, IL to Andrew and Thelma (Holt) Kapala.  They preceded him in death.

He married Winona M. Ball on October 13, 1950 in Canton.  She preceded him in death on March 25, 2003.

Surviving are his children, Valerie (Gary) Page of Canton, Dan (Robin) Kapala of Canton, three grandchildren, Nicholee (Michael) Nietch of TX, Nick Kapala of FL, Garrett (Danielle) Page of FL, six grandchildren, Trevor, Aila, Tobin, Alexia, Cheyenne and Weston, one brother Ronnie Lust of FL and one sister, Nancy Lust of WI.

Also preceding him in death are three sisters, Delores Monaco, Norma Robbins, Marilyn Dempsey and his step father, Glenn Lust.

Vernon served in the U.S. Army for 22 years retiring in 1968.  He served during the Occupation of Japan, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War.  At one point he served on the staff of the Inspector General under the command of General Westmoreland.  He later worked for Caterpillar for 22 years retiring in 1989.  He was the owner and operator of Canton Coin Exchange.  He was a member of the Fulton County Democrats and served as an Election Judge.  Vernon enjoyed coin collecting, fishing and gardening.

Burial will be held at White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton where military rites will be accorded.

Marcheta Joy (Harris) Ellsworth

Marcheta Joy (Harris) Ellsworth, 75 peacefully passed away at her home in St. Louis, Mo on Friday, November 8th at 12:15pm.

Marcheta was born on September 4, 1944, in Canton, to Ralph and Rossie (Williams) Harris. She married Don E. Ellsworth on March 29, 1976. He proceeded her in death on November 10, 2018.

She is also proceeded in death by two sisters who passed in infancy, Shelby and Sandra, as well as a grandson, Peyton Ellsworth.

She is survived by 4 children, Doug Ellsworth of Urbana, IL, Brad (Melanie) Ellsworth of Austin, TX, Angel Venegoni of St. Louis, MO and Tiffany (Jeramy) Ellsworth of Normal, IL, 4 grandchildren (Ryan (Tamra), Marisa, Brandon and Drew), and one great granddaughter (Henleigh). Also surviving are two brothers, Monte and Max Harris, both of Banner, IL as well as many close cousins, nieces and nephews.

After graduating from Timber Tigers High School in Glasford, IL in 1962, she went on to obtain her teaching degree from Northeast Missouri State Teachers college in Kirksville, Missouri in 1967. She taught at several schools within Fulton County, but the majority of her career was spent as a 3rd grade teacher at Westview Elementary. After teaching in Canton District 66 for 25 years, she retired in 2000. But she wasn’t ready to let it go entirely and continued to teach in Camdenton, Mo for a few more years. Her devotion to her students and their success proves that teaching was one of her greatest passions in life. She not only taught students the curriculum, she encouraged and inspired countless individuals as an educator.

Marcheta started dancing at a young age and traveled with her mom’s troop of the “Little Sister’s Square Dancers” to perform statewide. As an adult, she opened her own dance studio, choreographed her own productions, plays and pageants. Dancing brought her much happiness and she never hesitated to be the first on the dance floor if the music hit her!

She also enjoyed traveling. After retiring from teaching, she worked as a tour bus guide in Sun City West, AZ. It combined her love for learning, teaching and experiencing new places.

Many moments and memories were made on the water and just having fun. She loved spending time with her family and friends and her laughter and smile will be greatly missed.

2 years ago, Marcheta was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. Her family would like to thank the countless members of the staff at Siteman Cancer Center for their continued compassion and support. Canton – Ralph “Buddy” Linn Paul, 92, of Canton, passed away at 11:38 AM on Monday, December 2, 2019 at Graham Medical Group. He was born on September 13, 1927 in Canton to John W. and Sadie (Brush) Paul. He married Marian Grace Gillette on October 7, 1950 at the First Baptist Church in Canton. She survives.

 Also surviving are four children, James E. (Annegret) Paul of Kalamazoo, MI, Ralph W. (Patricia) Paul of Normal, IL, Jeffrey L. (Tina) Paul of Macomb, IL, and Kathleen A. (Michael) Luker of Canton, IL; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, John W. Paul Jr. of Escondido, CA. Also, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

 Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Herschel and Robert Virgil Paul, and six sisters, Ethel Pfieffer, Mabel Miller, Opal Averill, Waneta Whitaker, Gertrude Melz, and Emma Everlen, and one great-grandson, Nathan Paul Hickman.

 Ralph joined the Army in 1946 serving in WWII, spending over two years in Italy, two years with the Korean conflict, and a total of five years in the service. In his youth he worked at Al’s Shoe Repair, The IHC Canton Plant, and Norm Zeurcher’s Auto Care. He began carrying mail in Christmas ’52 and worked at the Canton Post Office for 32 years. He retired in 1984 to work maintaining his properties and enjoying his friends and family. He was a cubmaster for Boy Scouts of America and co-president of Kellogg PTA during the 60’s. He was also a member of National Association of Letter Carriers and a member of the First Baptist Church of Canton where he often ushered.

 A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Cremation rites will be accorded with Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, IL. James “Jim” Allen Morse

Canton – James “Jim” Allen Morse, 64, of Canton, passed away at 10:49 AM on Sunday, November 24, 2019 at Graham Hospital Emergency Room. He was born on July 23, 1955 in Farmington, Illinois to Vernon Dean and Evelyn (Windsor) Morse. He married Janet Frew on March 20, 1976. She preceded him in death on April 15, 2019.

James is also preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Flora (May) Meyer; two brothers, Gary Morse, Ronald “RD”Morse; and sister-in-law, Iris Lancaster.

Surviving are two children, Jennifer (Greg Smith) Geeseman and James E. Morse both of Canton; two grandsons, Chase Geeseman of New Jersey, and Seth Geeseman of Cuba; five sisters, Sandra Phillips of Jacksonville, Florida, Mary Mathews of Canton, Joann (Mike Gray) Wright of Cuba, Debra (Angie Ganger) Wright of Belleville, Michigan, Susan (Ron Smith) Morse of Norris; several nieces, nephews, and brother-in-law’s.

James was in Local 165 for 30 years. He also worked for Fulton County Weatherization and Allied Iron & Steel.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 PM (Noon) on Friday, December 6, 2019 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, where visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of services. Rev. Rev. J. Gary Schmidt

Rev. J. Gary Schmidt, 75, of Hanna City, passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at his residence. He was born on July 12, 1944 in Minot, North Dakota to Herman and Agnes (Leier) Schmidt. He married Darlene Honig on July 10, 1966 in Lincoln, Kansas. She survives.

Also surviving are three children, Jonathan Schmidt of Hanna City, Illinois, Dawn (Rich) Good of Dacula, Georgia, and Timothy (Kristin) Schmidt of South Beloit, Illinois; five grandchildren, Adrianna and Evan Good, Annalise, Ian, Gavin Schmidt; one sister, Carol Treckman of Minot, North Dakota.

Gary retired from Federal Warehouse Companies. He was Pastor of Penn Ridge Lutheran Church in Trivoli, and Wiley Lutheran Church in Ellisville. Gary loved his family and grandkids.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Farmington. Pauline M. Myers

Canton- Pauline May Myers, 87, passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2019 at the Loft in Canton.

She was born on December 29, 1931 in Lewistown Township to Lloyd and Katherine (Hughes) Swise.  They preceded her in death.

She married Ray Myers on January 1, 1951 in Cuba, IL.  He survives.

Also surviving is one daughter, Cathey (Larry) Fleming of Canton, three sisters, Norma Atchley of Perris CA, Frances Barnett of Canton, Diane Wells of Canton, two grandchildren, Joseph Fleming of Canton, Brett (Becky) Fleming of California, seven great grandchildren, Derrick, Parker, Brennan, Kyle, Colby, Abigail, Brett Jr. and one great great grandchild, Jace.

Four brothers, Jim Swise, John Lloyd Swise, Raylee Swise, Danny Allen Swise and four sisters, Betty Richardson, Shirley Wages, Peggy  Sue Schneider and Pat Bryan also preceded her in death.

Pauline retired from the billing department at Graham Hospital. She was member of the Ladies of the Moose.

Most of all she was a loving mother, grandmother and friend. 

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 from 10-11 am at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory in Canton with a graveside service to follow at White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton.

Lester Courtney

Lester Courtney, 92, of Canton, passed away at 11:40 PM on Thursday, November 28, 2019 at The Loft in Canton. He was born on December 17, 1926 in Canton to Lester T. and Edna (Fidler) Courtney. He married Alma L. Lingenfelter on December 13, 1947. She preceded him in death on July 20, 2014.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Tommy Courtney and Leslie Paul Courtney; and three sisters, Shirley Atkins, Irene Davison, and Sheryl Hughes.

He is survived by five children, Robert (Carla) Courtney, David (Pam) Courtney, Susie (Larry) Vanmiddlesworth, Laura Clendenny, and Virgil Courtney all of Canton; seventeen grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Harold Courtney.

He worked for Caterpillar for 30 years. He liked hunting, fishing, going on gambling trips, and dancing. He was a man who showed love and friendship. He was greatly respected and loved by all of his family. Everyone was hugged and kissed every day. He was the center of his family’s world. He was the best dad and everyone knew they were loved. His family is the people they are today because of how they were raised. At the end of the day we are family and we love each other because of mom and dad.

Lester served in the United States Army.

Jeffrey L. Keefauver, 56, of Astoria, passed away at 7:02 AM on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at Mason District Hospital in Havana. He was born on August 8, 1963 to Charles Keefauver and Jean (Vollmar) King.

Jeffrey enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved his family and was a great dad. He also served in the National Guard.

Alton L. “Al” Bass

Alton L. “Al” Bass, 72, of Brimfield, passed away at 6:38 AM on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at OSF Saint Mary’s Medical Center in Galesburg. He was born on June 18, 1947 in Peoria. He married the love of his life Linda Dunn on May 24, 1970 in Laura, Illinois. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Jeff (Angie Thomas) Bass of Cuba; Tom (Becki) Bass of North Dakota; five grandchildren, Tristian (Jessica Lynch) Thomas, Alex (Colin Deakin) Thomas, Ella, Nate and Sam Bass.

Al graduated from Hononegah High School in Rockton, Illinois, then attended and graduated from Elkhart Institute of Tech in Elkhart, Indiana. he was owner and operator of JT Dental Lab in Brimfield, was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge #44 in Farmington, American Legion Post #452 in Brimfield, and a member of the Illinois BMW motorcycle club.

In June of 1967, Al was drafted in the United States Army with the 3rd Brigade 82nd Airborne, and in 1968 he was wounded in the field, and was transferred to Saigon Adventist Hospital then to Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Denver. Al passed away peacefully on Saturday, from what was determined to be a Vietnam-era herbicide-exposed Veteran.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 8, 2019 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, where visitation will be from 1:00 PM until the time of services. Pastor Ardis Corsaw will officiate. Cremation rites will be accorded. Military Honors will be conducted by the United States Army and Canton VFW Post 1984 following the services. Canton – Pearline Hadsall, 87, of Canton passed away at 1:00 pm Saturday, November 23, 2019 at her residence.  She was born on February 3, 1932 in Wardell, Missouri to Clifton and Dorothy (Coggins) Wilson.  She married Francis Hadsall.  He died in 1989.  Also preceding her in death were her parents and one sister Wanda “Bid” Fulk.  Surviving is one daughter Linda Martin of Canton, two brothers; Clifton Wilson and David Wilson, one sister Sunderine (Wayne C.) Temple, one granddaughter Sherry (Jeremy) Yocum, and two great-grandsons; Jordon and Jacob.
Pearline owned and operated many businesses over the years, including a restaurant, gift shop, pool hall, bar, and a quilt shop.

Harry Mustered

Havana – Harry Mustered, 68, passed away at 5:35 am, Thursday, November 21, 2019 at the Mason District Hospital in Havana.

He was born on November 24, 1950 to Donald and Ernestine (Higgenbothom) Mustered,

They preceded him in death.

He married Bonnie Rich in 1970.  She survives.

Also surviving are three children, Casey Mustered of Havana, Charity Mustered of Havana, Andrea Brownfield of Las Vegas, one brother, Donald Mustered of Easton, one half-sister Nancy Mae Higham and seven grandchildren, Kameron Brownfield, Brodie Brownfield, Braden Mustered, Jayden Brownfield, Shelby, Loy Bridge and Karson Mustered.

Also preceding him in death is one brother, Dale Mustered.

Harry retired from Caterpillar Tractor Company and later drove a gas truck for Mike Hills.

He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and playing golf.

Cremation rites have been accorded and a burial of the ashes will be held at the Bethel Cemetery on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at 11:00 a.m.

Martha “Marty” Ellen White

Martha “Marty” Ellen White, 68, of Canton passed away at 4:07 pm, Monday, November 11, 2019 at Graham Hospital.

She was born on June 24, 1951 in Canton to Myron “Jack” and JoAnn (Johnston) White. She was preceded in death by her mother. Surviving are her father, Jack, sister Rhonda Vogel, brother-in-law, Matthew, nephews Nicholas (Katie) and Jacob Vogel.

Marty touched many lives and she never knew a stranger. She opened her heart with love to all. Her passion was to tutor students. She helped so many students of all ages and always saw their many talents. She volunteered many hours of calling for funeral dinners and Meals on Wheels. She taught Sunday School at the First Baptist Church for over 40 years and was an avid Canton sports fan. She was a Friendship Festival Parade Marshall, a YWCA Women of Achievement recipient and Canton Chamber of Commerce 1996 Citizen of the Year.

A celebration of life will be Friday, November 29, 2019 from 2:00-4:00 pm at the First Baptist Church of Canton, Fellowship Hall.
