She was born April 23, 1950 at Blue Island, IL; the daughter of William and Helen (Fredette) Wilson. She married John Braun on February 2, 1975 at Woodstock, IL, and they were married for nearly 50 years. He survives, along with three children, Andy (Carol) Braun of Chicago, Jeff (Monica) Braun of Lewistown, and Jenna (Brian) Russell of Lincoln, NE. She is also survived by her grandchildren whom she loved and adored, Jack and Sara Braun, Macey (Lucas) Utter, Gage (Alex) Beekman, Carsyn and Knox Braun, and Ben and Alex Russell and her great grandchildren, Nash and Crew Utter. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Barb Wilson, a nephew, Eric (Marla) Wilson and a great-niece, Allison Wilson, all of Rockford. She was preceded in death by her parents and Everett (Buck) Walker, one nephew, Gregg Wilson, and one brother, David Wilson.
Jan worked in education for most of her life. She served the Lewistown and surrounding communities first as a teacher, then as the Lewistown elementary school principal for many years, retiring in 2015. She continued to work in the district as a Curriculum Director. She was a woman of many talents and loved to garden, paint, craft, sew, write and spend time at the beach on Anna Maria Island, Florida with her family and friends.
Cremation will be accorded, and a memorial visitation will be held from 1-3 pm Saturday October 26, 2024 at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown.
Memorial contributions can be made in honor of Jan to the Lewistown School District Kindness Fund.
The Kindness Fund was established to help the school district provide support to students and their families in times of need.
