Stephanie D. Duffield


Stephanie D. Duffield, 36, passed away Thursday afternoon July 30, 2020 at Liverpool, Illinois.

She was born December 1, 1983 at Canton a daughter of William R. and Sandi (Thrasher) Duffield.  Surviving are her parents, Rob Duffield of Lewistown and Sandi (Matt) Kline of rural Lewistown, her grandparents, William “Bill” (Mary Ann) Duffield of Lewistown and James R. Thrasher of Lewistown, one daughter, Opal Sheets at home, three brothers, Scott (Anna) Duffield of Canton, Ryan (Lora) Colglazier of Chicago, and Benjamin (Matti Ebert) Duffield of Lewistown, two sisters, Jessalyn Kline of Lewistown and Sydnee Duffield of Lewistown. She was preceded in death by two grandmothers, Delores “Dee” Thrasher and Roberta Duffield.

Stephanie worked at Cook Medical in Canton. She was a member of Lewistown United Methodist Church. Her daughter Opal was her life. Stephanie enjoyed fishing, camping, rock collecting, mushrooming and traveling. She loved growing flowers and designing flower arrangements.

Cremation will be accorded. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday August 8, 2020 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown with Reverend Shane Smith officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM Friday August 7th at the Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown social distancing guidelines will apply. Gloria Jean "Jeanie" Henderson


Gloria Jean "Jeanie" Henderson, 76, a Canton Native, and longtime Texas resident moved back to Canton after retirement and made a beautiful home and enjoyed her many days doing what she loved most, spending time with her family and friends. She passed peacefully on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria

She was born on March 25, 1944 in Canton to Leroy Wright and Lois (Severt) Lingenfelter.

Surviving are three children, Troy (Sheryl) Lefler of Hurst Texas, Teri (Chris) Geeseman of Canton Illinois, and Tonya (Richard Vasquz) McIntire of Mesa Arizona, two brothers, Robert (Stephanie) Wright and Michael (Sarah) Wright, one sister, Sue Engle, six grandchildren, Courtney, Nicholas, Cody, Carissa, Davon, and Davian, and Eight great grandchildren with three more on the way.

She was greeted in heaven by, her parents and one brother, Richard Wright.

Jeanie owned and operated D and J Coffee Shop in Canton with Mary "Dootsie" Grier. She worked for many years at Browns Snappy Service in Canton, and later retired from Wal Mart in Texas.

Jeanie loved hummingbirds, roosters, and making her home and yard for all her family to enjoy.

Jeanie, better known as "Nana" to all of her grandchildren, loved spending time with them, and all of her family.

God speed daughter, sister, mother and nana, we love and will miss you. Until we meet again!

Clarence Neuneker Jr, 80, of Canton passed away at 6:25 pm, July 28, 2020 at the Sunset Nursing Home in Canton.

He was born on September 16, 1939 in Prairie City to Clarence and Ethel (Morris) Neuneker Sr.

Memberships:   Carroll was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a farmer all of his life. He was strong, honest, highly respected, hard-working man, often from early morning to late night. If it was broken, he fixed it, if it wasn’t available, he would create it. He wouldn’t take no for an answer. He was tender-hearted, kind and gentle man with a giving heart. He would always take time to help out a fellow farmer who was in a tough spot. He was always there when he was needed. He always made us laugh and gave us so many memories to cherish.

Services:   Graveside service will be held at 11 am on Friday, July 31, 2020 in the Astoria         Cemetery.

Place:   Astoria Cemetery

Officiating: Pastor Matthew Thiner. Military rites will be provided by the Astoria American Legion Post #25.

Dorothy J. Rawley


Dorothy J. Rawley, 98, of Norris, passed away Monday, July 27, 2020, at Sunset Manor in Canton.

She was born on April 3, 1922, to Luny Byrd Steagall and Virgie (Mitchell). They both preceded her in death.

Dorothy first married Westmorland Davis Mitchell. He preceded her in death in 1961.

She is survived by her husband Harold Rawley, whom she married in November of 1962

Also Surviving is five sons, Paul (Judy) Mitchell of Oklahoma, James Mitchell of Norris, Thomas Mitchell of Florida, Richard (Jessie) Mitchell of Pekin, and Stephen (Martha) Mitchell of Norris, numerous grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and several great great grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death is one son Donald Mitchell, one stepson, Cecil Rawley, three brothers, Garland Steagall, Edward Steagall, and Ernest Steagall, and one sister, Mary Yocum.

Dorothy was a hairdresser at Dorothy's Beauty Shop in Norris. In the past, she had been a member of the Assembly of God Church for many years. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and painting. She also enjoyed many winters in Zolfo Springs Florida.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 31, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. with a visitation starting one hour prior to the service at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton.

Burial will be held immediately following the services at Orendorff Cemetery in Canton.

Memorials may be made to Disabled Veteran's Foundation.

Kevin D. Stanley


Kevin D. Stanley, 58, of Canton, passed away at 12:40 pm, July 26, 2020 at Graham Hospital Emergency Room. He was born on August 20, 1961 in Peoria to Ladorn and Lelila (Varnel) Stanley.

Kevin married Brenda Auld on February 14, 2004 in Norris. She survives along with two children; April (Joe) Allen of Creve Coeur and Nick (Shannon Kimler) Stanley of Washington, two step-sons; William (Charlotte) Steagall of Farmington and Tony Brashers of Parkersburg, IL, one brother Randy Stanley of Peoria, one sister Yavonne (Mario) McKeever of Rock Springs, WY, sixteen grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Kevin was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Gerald and Carl Stanley, two sisters Karen Loveland and Debbie Atchley, and one granddaughter Haven Stanley.

Kevin last worked at Norris Farms and was a devoted Chicago Cubs and Bears fan.

Cremation rites have been accorded and there will be a Celebration Life at a later date.

Robin Bedwell


Robin Bedwell, 59, of St. David, passed away at 7:00 pm, July 19, 2020 at her residence. She was born on July 15, 1961 in Mobile, AL. to Edward and Virginia (Gatlin) Holston. They preceded her in death.

Robin married Russell Bedwell on July 21, 2005 in Lewistown. He survives along with two daughters; Laticia Georgie of Peoria and Jessica (Rodney) Randalls of Canton, two sisters Leigh Ann Verhelle of St. Louis, MO. and Krystal Holston of Lincoln, NE. and two grandchildren; Logan and Kaylyn Negley.

Robin first worked as a CNA and later as the bookkeeper for Riverfront Pest Control.

Lance Finley


Lance E. Finley, 55, passed away at 3:55 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2020 at OSF St Francis Hospital in Peoria.

He was born on May 11, 1965 in Glendor, CA to Arthur and Leona (Heller) Finley. They survive.

He married Karol Utech in October of 1986. She preceded him in death.

Also surviving are his children, Renee Finley, Arthur Robert Terry Lee Finley, Travis Finley, Tuesday Finley, sisters, Marie Gilliam, Kim Finley, several grandchildren and nieces and nephews whom he loved with all his heart.

Also preceding him in death is his brother Robert along with one niece, Kristin Campbell.

Lance enjoyed time with his family, shopping and riding his bike.

Nancy Jane Surratt, 73, of Canton, passed away at 8:29 PM on Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at her residence. She was born on March 4, 1947 in Logansport, IN to Richard and Elouise (Drye) Heiland. She married Donald “Sam” Surratt on January 6, 1980 in Canton. He survives.

Also surviving is her mother, Elouise; two daughters, Tamie Pickering of Canton and Jenniffer (Doug) Swank of Canton; five grandchildren, Jake (Katie Moffitt) Pickering and Morgan (Jordan Rader) Pickering both of Canton, Jackson, Joseph, and Burke Swank all of Canton; one great-grandchild, Kennedy Rader; one brother, Kelley Heiland of IN; and one sister, Becky Smith of IN.

Nancy was preceded in death by her father.

Nancy retired from Kroger Co. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Canton, IL.

Robert R. “Bob” Busby Sr.


Canton- Robert R. “Bob” Busby Sr., 86, of Canton, passed away Monday July 20, 2020 at his residence. He was born on November 25, 1933 in Canton, to Harlan and Esther (Simpson) Busby. They preceded him in death.

He married Norma “Jean” (Zuercher) on March 31, 1957, in Canton. She preceded him in death on October 9, 2016.

He is survived by two children, Bob (Deb) Busby Jr., Patty (Doug) Bergstralh, and one granddaughter, Samantha Busby, all of Canton.

Also preceding him in death are brothers, Virgil Busby, and George Busby, and sister Alberta Salisbury.

He graduated from Canton High school in 1953, and attended Brown College. Bob started work as an independent trucker. He began work at International Harvester in January 1965 and retired in 1993.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed sports, especially baseball and high school/college basketball.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Greenwood cemetery in Canton.

Memberships:   Daughters of the American Revolution.  She attended Grace Baptist Church in Kankakee, IL and was an example to us all of a kind and loving Christian woman.  Her grandchildren loved to cook with Esther in her kitchen and her recipes for caramel apples and fresh salsa are legendary.

Memberships:   Wanda cooked no less than two meals (Sunday Dinners) every day and it was a common occurrence to see one or two extras at the table to enjoy her excellent cooking.  She dearly loved dogs and was always willing to take in a stray in need of a home.  She was a very strong woman and a pillar of strength in a crisis.  She had a great sense of humor and a great laugh.

Thomas J. Zaborac, 69, passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2020 at his residence.

He was born on May 4, 1951 in Canton to Thomas and Mildred "Millie" (Kelly) Zaborac. They preceded him in death.

He married Diana S. "Dee" Sappington on March 31, 1989. She also preceded him in death.

Surviving are his children, Kevin (Gina) Riley of Peoria, Lori (Tim) Loving of Galesburg, one brother, Edward (Debra) Zaborac of Wee-Ma-Tuk, four grandchildren, Brandon Riley of Peoria, Morgan Riley of Peoria, Tori Loving of Galesburg and Eli Loving of Galesburg.

Tom worked as a math teacher and coach for Elmwood High School and V.I.T and retired as the Vocational Director for Illinois River Correctional Center.

Edith Ellen (Gibson) Fourdyce


Edith Ellen (Gibson) Fourdyce, 100, of St. David, passed away at 9:30 AM on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 in Canton. She was born on March 16, 1920 in Wichita, Kansas to Harry Barton and Ada Nancy (Caulk) Gibson. She married Marlin Francis “Ben” Fourdyce. He preceded her in death in 1982.

Edith is also preceded in death by her parents; four sons, Harry, Jerry, Ed, and Albert Fourdyce; three brothers, Barton, Johnie, and Clayton Gibson; and one sister, Margaret Skinner.

She is survived by her daughter, Judith N. (Taylor) Fourdyce; nine grandchildren, multiple great-grandchildren, and multiple great-great grandchildren.

Edith served many years as a foster parent to numerous children. She owned Edith’s Doll Shop in St. David. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and caring for her collection of dolls.

Her nephew Orville Skinner Jr. and his wife Barbara had a special place in her heart and cared for her in their home during her last months and days of her life. A special thanks to Dot and Bill Stevens for all the years they spent with Edith doing different things.

Joyce Quackenbush, 77, of Canton, passed away, Thursday, July 16, 2020, at Sunset Manor in Canton.

She was born on December 19, 1942 in Canton, to William E. and Wilma (Black) Quackenbush.

They both preceded her in death. She is survived by her cousin Terry Collins of Lewistown.

Joyce worked and later retired from Pekin Insurance. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Canton.

John P. Bowton


John P. Bowton, 78, of Canton, passed away at 6:23 PM on Thursday, July 16, 2020 at his residence. He was born on April 13, 1942 in Peoria, IL to Roscoe and Ethel (Abbadusky) Bowton.

Surviving are three sisters, Joyce (Bob) Dixon of Livermore, CO, Lois (Gordon) Lock of Fairview, IL, and Rosetta Shrock of Indianapolis, IN; brother-in-law, Mark Tomich of Canton, IL; five nephews; five nieces; and several great nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Fredrick Bowton, and one sister, Victoria Tomich.

John worked as a farmer. He loved auctions, hunting, and being an outdoorsman.

John served in the United States Navy.

Don Louis Hopper


Don Louis Hopper, 83, of Canton, passed away at 2:55 PM on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at The Loft in Canton, IL. He was born on March 6, 1937 in Galesburg, IL to Orrin Henry and Maxine Lois (Maxwell) Hopper. He married Gladys Ann Curtis on June 17, 1962 in Galva, IL. She preceded him in death on December 15, 2016.

Don was also preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Dale C. Hopper.

Surviving are two children, Janet (Tim) Crouse of Cuba, IL and Kay (David) Guth of Roanoke, IL; four grandchildren, Kyle Guth, Elizabeth Guth, Zachary Crouse, Nicholas Crouse; two brothers, Norman C. (the late Betty) Hopper of Canton and Roy D. (Rachel) Hopper of Canton; and many nieces and nephews.

Don worked as a journalist for Peoria Journal Star and WBYS. He was a life long member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Canton, IL where he was involved in all the church activities, a fifty year member of the Morning Star Lodge 734, member of the Canton American Legion Post 16, the Mohammed Shriners, the Peoria Consistory Scottish Rite, served on the Canton Bicentennial Committee, and also worked with Region Baseball Programs. Don loved reading and his animals.

Don served in the United States Navy.

Ruth Ann Thurman


Ruth Ann Thurman, 82, of Norris, passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2020 at her residence.

She was born on April 10, 1938 in Peoria to Joseph and Mary (Murphy) Hick.  They preceded her in death.

She married Ralph “Dick” Thurman on July 3, 1956 in Canton.  He survives.

Also surviving are three children, Richard “Rick” Thurman of Covington, IN, Melanie (Kate) Thurman of Atlanta, GA, Tonja (Nathan) Mallicoat of Canton and four grandchildren, Tyler Thurman, Cody Schall, Kelsey Thurman, Maxwell Thurman and step sister, Margaret Green of Summerville S.C.

Her step father, Emery “Doc” Tolley, three half-brothers, Harlan Johnson, Wilfred Hick, Paul Hick and step brother, Charles Tolley,   also preceded her in death.

Ruth worked for Johnson Plumbing and Ideal Cleaners.  She was a member of Norris United Methodist Church.  Her passion was being a Seamstress and quilter and dancing with the Happy Feet Line Dancers.

A public funeral will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton where public visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

A burial will be held immediately following the services at Norris Cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Franzoni Park in Norris.

Richard “Dick Reffett


Richard “Dick” Reffett, 82, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at Graham Hospital Emergency room.

He was born on July 20, 1937 in Canton to Aubrey and Gladys (Bowton) Reffett.

He married Helen Putman on February 23, 1958 in Fairview.  She survives.

Also surviving are two children, Rhonda (Tim) Haynes of Canton, Scott (Becky) Reffett of Geneva, son-in-law, Neil Kleinschmidt, twelve grandchildren, Nikki Schulte, Trisha Bostic, Ericia Stanley, Trey Reffett, Elisabeth Barnes, Kyle Reffett, Kayla Coonradt, Corey Haynes, Ryan Haynes, Nicholas Reffett, Jacob Reffett, Grant Reffett, eleven great grandchildren and one sister, Beverly Reffett.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Rick Reffett, one daughter, Tina Kleinschmidt and one sister, Jackie Cardosi.

Dick retired from International Harvester in Canton and later retired as Vice President of sales from Choice Products.  He was the founder of the Canton Wrestling Club.  Most of all Dick was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.  He enjoyed attending all of his grandkids events.

Cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial service will be held on Monday, July 19, 2020, at 11 am, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory in Canton with a visitation one hour prior.  Burial of the ashes will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Canton.

Memorials may be made to Canton Wrestling Club or Fulton County Humane Society.

Frank T. Tucker Sr.

Frank T. Tucker Sr., 77, of Canton, passed away Sunday, July 5, 2020 at his Cabin.

He was born on August 27, 1942, in Canton to Merle and Rose (Caruso) Tucker. They preceded him in death along with one brother Thomas “Tommy” Tucker.

Frank is survived by his wife, Sandra (Leininger) Tucker, whom he married on January 14, 1978, in Peoria, Illinois.

Also surviving are two sons, Frank T. (Sue) Tucker Jr. of Canton, and Patrick (Donna) Tucker of Springfield, one daughter, Jennifer (Roger) Nelson of Lewistown, one brother, Robert “Bobby” Tucker, two grandchildren, Ashley (Josh) Balangna, and Blaine Tucker, and one great granddaughter, Andi Balagna.

Frank was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Canton.

He enjoyed vacations to Mexico, where he loved the beaches. He was a Corvette enthusiast, and he loved all animals especially his dog Hsi.

A private graveside service was held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Canton.

Jennings R. Beaty Jr


Jennings Raymond Beaty Jr, 74, joined his wife in eternal peace on Monday, July 13, 2020 at Unity Point Methodist Hospital in Peoria.

He was born on November 2, 1945 in Baltimore, Maryland to Jennings and Catherine (Appler) Beaty.  They preceded him in death.

He married Sonja Elaine Taylor on November 13, 1966 in Baltimore, Maryland.  She preceded him in death on April 14, 2019.

He is survived by three children: Catherine Beaty Surowka (Griffin), of Richmond, Virginia: Christopher Raymond Beaty (Veronica), of Virginia Beach, Virginia: and Craig Hunter Beaty (Diana), of Canton, Illinois. He was blessed with seven grandchildren, Brittany, Justin, Stephen, Jordan, Matthew, Jacob, Ryan, five great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Thomas, Mason, Scarlett and Maryn with one more due in March of 2021.  Two brothers, Russell (Sharon) Beaty, Charles “Butch” (the late Phyllis “Pat”) Beaty, two sisters, Margie (Donny) Harris and Jean (late Robert) Rodeheaver also survive.

He was also preceded in death by one brother Elwood Beaty.

Jennings served proudly in the U.S. Navy for 25 years retiring in 1989.  He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Most of all Jennings was a loving and devoted Husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.  He not only served his country but he also served his family.

Cremation rites have been accorded and there will be no local services.  The family is planning a burial of Jennings’ ashes, with military rites, along with his loving wife’s ashes on their 54th wedding anniversary at the family cemetery in North Carolina.

May God grant him fair winds and following seas.

Robert E. “Bob” Williams

Robert E. “Bob” Williams, 71, of Lewistown, passed away at 5:30 AM Friday July 10, 2020 at the Clayberg Nursing Home in Cuba.

He was born May 15, 1949 the son of Jessie and Elsie Williams. Survivors include three children, six grandchildren, and several cousins.

Bob last worked at Dickson Mounds Museum where he enjoyed his job very much. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and cooking.

Per his request cremation will be accorded and no services will be held. A private interment of ashes will be held at Headyville Cemetery in Jasper County, Illinois.

She was born on May 30, 1986 in Chicago to Steven Samek and Trina Bennett.  Christina married Todd Graham on September 11, 2016 in Lewistown.  He survives along with two children; Austin and Zoey King both of Lewistown, one sister Katrina A. Bennett of Gilman, IL, four brothers; Phillip R. Anglin, Cheyenne McBride, Jordan Bennett all of Chatsworth and Jason Bennett of Pontiac.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

Christina worked in home health and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Canton.

Steven Samek, 58, of Lewistown passed away at 7:25 am July 9, 2020 at the Graham Hospital in Canton.

He was born on November 14, 1961. Steven had two daughters; Christina (Todd) Graham of Lewistown and Katrina A. Bennett of Gilman, IL and two grandchildren Austin and Zoey King. He worked at Atlas Employment Services.

Joseph Coleman

Joseph P. “Joe” Coleman, 57, of Lewistown, passed away at 8:50 PM Thursday July 9, 2020 at OSF St Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

He was born July 5, 1963 at Macomb, the son of Lawrence and Lois E. (Burgard) Coleman. Survivors include his mother, Lois Gorsage of Canton, three brothers, Terry (Liz) Coleman of Loves Park, IL, Donald (Michelle) Gorsage of Canton, and Robert Gorsage of Lewistown, one sister, Patti (Aaron) Oest of Lewistown, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, and step father, Donald Gorsage.

Joe worked at the former Goodman Sawmill in Lewistown for many years. He was a graduate of Lewistown High School where he was very active in sports and especially basketball. During high school he was named an All State Basketball Player, and was also the MVP at the Macomb and Fulton County Basketball Tournaments. He was an avid Pittsburg Pirates and Washington Redskins fan.

A visitation will be held Sunday July 19th from 1-3 PM at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown. A private family graveside service and burial will be held on Monday July 20th at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown with Reverend Larry Wright officiating. Charles E. “Gene” Haggerty


Charles E. “Gene” Haggerty, 87, of rural Smithfield passed away at 7:59 PM Wednesday July 8, 2020 at his residence.

He was born February 21, 1933 at Cuba the son of Charles J. and Mary Rita (Ford) Haggerty. He married Iona Wells on April 2, 1965 at Checkrow. She survives along with four daughters, Tina Payne-Reed of Smithfield, Carol Haggerty of Smithfield, Stacy Haggerty of Smithfield and Sheryl (Ralph) Kindhart of Plymouth, two brothers, Gary (Brenda) Haggerty of Texas and Scott (Pam) Haggerty of Ellisville, two sisters, Marie Ann Corsaw of Florida and Sharon Hinkley of Florida, seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Andrew L. Payne Jr., one grandson, one granddaughter, four brothers and two sisters.

Gene graduated from Cuba High School class of 1951. He was a US Army veteran serving during the Korean conflict. Gene was a farmer and was the owner of Go-Go Trucking where he was an independent truck driver. Throughout the years he drove over two million miles. Gene enjoyed auctions and attending football games with his children.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 PM Tuesday at Wiley Cemetery with Pastor Kevin Lingenfelter officiating. Burial will follow at Wiley Cemetery rural Ellisville with military services by the Cuba American Legion Russell Smith Post 533. Brenda Sue Rickert-Ellis


Brenda Sue Rickert-Ellis, 73, of Canton, passed away at 5:53 PM on Friday, July 3, 2020 at her residence. She was born on January 22, 1947 in Quincy, IL to Raymond and Helen (Farmer) Norton. She first married Gary Lee Rickert Sr. on June 12, 1965, he preceded her in death on July 3, 1982. She later married Jerry Ellis on August 17, 1990. He survives.

Also surviving are two children, Gary (Lyn Pedigo) Rickert of Canton and Trinna (Gene) Ryan of Canton; two step-children, Todd (LaKeisha) Ellis and Keri Ellis; five grandchildren, Trey and Elli Rickert, Brittany and Brock Ryan, and Taylor Ellis; six step-grandchildren, Erika, Olivia, and Jacob Ellis, Drake and Brylee Sams, and Dhaya Priest; four great-grandchildren, Raveigha, Nolan, Brianna, and Perci; two step-great-grandchildren, Amaris and Ahava.

Brenda was preceded in death by her parents and one brother and sister in law, Raymond and Donna Norton.

Brenda was a member of the Farmington United Methodist Church in Farmington, IL. She loved knitting, gardening, singing, and playing and teaching piano. Brenda loved children and also spending time with her family.

Graveside service will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton, IL. Rev. Walter Carlson will officiate. Edward P. “Eddie” Jones


Edward P. “Eddie” Jones, 80, of Myrtle Beach, SC, passed away peacefully at his home on June 28, 2019 in Myrtle Beach, SC. He was born on February 12, 1939 in Canton, IL to Edward J. “Barney” Jones and Jean Detrick.

Surviving is one son, Chris Jones of Harrisburg NC, five grandchildren, Miranda and Jake Klees and Hannah, Emily, and Jack Jones, and one sister, Marie Romine of Canton, IL.

Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Joan Klees, one brother, Richard J. Sedgwick, and one sister, Suzanne Vickers.

Eddie graduated from Canton High School. He was an avid golfer in Myrtle Beach with no less than three “holes in one” to his credit. He was a member of several golf groups, a restauranteur and night club owner as well as The Elks Lodge and Knights of Columbus.

Elva M. Bainter


Elva M. Bainter, 93, of Lewistown passed away Friday July 3, 2020 at Renaissance Care Center in Canton.

She was born September 18, 1926 in Liverpool Township to Harry and Tressie (Wilcoxen) O’Bryant. She married Wayne Bainter on August 28, 1944. He died October 23, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Clinton O’Bryant and one granddaughter Michelle Bainter.

Surviving are seven sons, Carroll Bainter of Lewistown, Marvin (June) Bainter of Lewistown, Lindell (Sara) Bainter of Lewistown, Jerry (Janeile) Bainter of Lewistown, David (Kathy) Bainter of Lewistown, Richard Bainter of Lewistown and Kevin Bainter of Lewistown, 16 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Elva was a devoted mother, grandmother and daughter. Elva was a housewife while raising her 7 sons. She was a cook at Lewistown Dairy Queen when it first opened and owned by her brother and nephew. Elva was an avid bowler for many years. Elva played cards and went to church gospels with her special friends (Barb, Rhonda, Shirley, and Jane). Elva loved to garden and crochet.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday at the Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Pastor Randy Munson officiating. Burial will be at White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton. Charles M. Smith


Charles M. Smith, 80, of Cuba passed away at 9:50 AM Thursday July 2, 2020 at the Clayberg Nursing Home in Cuba.

He was born February 29, 1940 at Wooster, OH; the son of Viola Harmon. He married Helen M. Bartlett on June 12, 1971 at Canton. She survives along with four daughters, Sarah (Larry) Cook of LaFayette, Anna Marie (Ravfe) Allard of Fiatt, Diane (George) Gillham of Fiatt and Carolyn Pugh of Mayer, AZ; two brothers, Steve Smith of Ohio and Paul (Marsha) Smith of Missouri, one sister, Ruth Young of Ohio, two sister-in-laws, Batty Austin of Ohio and Diane Bartlett of Canton, a brother-in-law, Alvin Bartlett also of Canton, 23 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Charles M. Smith Jr., two daughters, Phyllis Jones and Teresa Gilpin, three grandchildren, five brothers and four sisters.

Charles was a jack of all trades. He was a US Army Veteran. He attended the former Assembly of God Church in Cuba. Charles enjoyed fishing, hunting ginseng and picking berry’s. Charles loved nature.

Cremation will be accorded. The family will plan a celebration of life at a later date. Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.

Kenneth G. Hamm

Kenneth G. Hamm, 68, of Canton passed away at 11:33 pm Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at Graham Hospital in Canton. 

He was born on June 17, 1952 in Rapid City, S.D. to James and Helen (Hudson) Hamm.  Ken married Linda Speck on July 23, 2001 in Estes Park, CO.  She survives along with one sister Becky (Donnie) Coulter of Canton.

Ken was the owner/operator of K&L Antiques and Collectables in Canton.

Harriett A. McClaughry


Harriett A. McClaughry, 80, of Cuba, passed away at 12:15 AM Thursday July 2, 2020 at her home.

She was born February 2, 1940 at Canton, the daughter of Ralph Adrian and Isabel (McKean) Munson. She married Wilbur McClaughry on December 21, 1957 at Fiatt. He survives with five children, Lewis “Monty” (Marlynna) McClaughry of Fiatt, Glenda (Ray) Postin of Lewistown, Lisa (Rod) Miller of Smithfield, Eric McClaughry of Canton, and Aaron McClaughry of Marshall, twelve grandchildren, Josh, Matt, Robert, Chase, Stacey, Brooke, Wes, Kara, Tyler, Kelly, Morgan, and Ethan, six great grandchildren, and two sisters, Esther Lovell and Laura Sue Munson both of Canton.

Harriett was a homemaker and also owned and operated the former Flower Station in Cuba for 19 years. She was a 1958 graduate of Cuba High School. She was a member of the Cuba Christian Church where she served as Elder Emeritus. She was also a member of the Lewistown Rebekah Lodge for 62 years, and a member of the Lewistown Odd Fellows Lodge. She enjoyed bowling and baking, and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday at the Cuba Christian Church where visitation will be held Monday from 5-7 PM. A Rebekah service will be held at 7:00 PM. Burial will be at Fiatt Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cuba Christian Church, Cuba High School Alumni Scholarship Fund, Cuba Food Pantry, or the Lewistown Rebekah Lodge.
