Gerald R. Edwards

 Cuba- Gerald R. Edwards, "Jerry" 70, of Cuba, passed away at his home.
Jerry was born November 16, 1950 in Peoria, the son of Robert and Nola (Pease) Edwards. He married Christy Swango on October 18, 2014. She preceded him in death on July 28, 2019. Survivors include one son, Dave (Amy) Edwards of Chatham, one daughter, Julie (Cajun) Kleeman, and one step daughter, Michelle (John) Berryman of Morton, one grandson, Isaac Edwards, one brother, John (Nita) Edwards of North Carolina, his mother and father in law, Bill and Shirley Swango of Smithfield, a brother in law, Roger (Rosalie) Swango of Smithfield, and several nieces and nephews.
Jerry was a school teacher with the Astoria School District before retiring at the end of the 2020-2021 school year. He loved teaching and worked in the field of education for over 40 years. He attended the Smithfield Church of the Nazarene.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday August 4, 2021 at 3:00 PM at Baughman Cemetery at rural Smithfield with Pastor Dennis Mumaw officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Astoria School District for a Spanish student scholarship fund. Condolences may be made at henrylange.com

Betty K. Curless

 Betty K. Curless, 78, of Rushville, IL, formerly of Astoria, IL passed away at 2:20 pm on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL. She was born on June 10, 1943 in Rushville, IL, the daughter of Judge and Anna (Martin) Estes. Betty married Wayne Curless on June 10, 1961 in Bluff City, IL. Wayne preceded Betty in death on February 11, 2019.

Also preceding her are her parents and sister, Judy.

Survivors include her 2 daughters, Tonya (and Darryl) Holmes of Ipava, IL and Wanette (and Tom) Dwyer of Clinton, IL, 4 grandchildren, DJ (and Laura) Holmes, Jake Holmes, Laney (and Zach) Newberry and Keegan Dwyer, 4 great-grandchildren, Eva, Knox, Peyton and Duncan, 3 sisters, Joyce Wilcoxen of Lewistown, IL, Mindy McKenzie of Lewistown, IL, and Melody Spain of Missouri.

She was a homemaker who took great care of her husband and children.

Betty taught Sunday school for several years and was always by her husband Wayne’s side through the many years of his ministry, helping in numerous ways. She loved to cook and bake for her family, roller skate, and was an avid shopper. Most of all she loved spending time with her 2 daughters, grandchildren, her sister, Joyce, Wayne’s family, who she thought of as her own, and friends.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Pastor Rex Beard will be officiating. A visitation will take place 1 hour prior to the service on Saturday. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.

Paul R. "Ron" Graves

Canton-Ron Graves, 89, passed away on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at his residence.
He was born on May 20, 1932 in Peoria. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil "Red" and Coral (Williams) Graves.
He married Rose McMahon in November of 1972 in Canton. She survives.
Also surviving are his children, Mary (Bill) Fitch of Lewistown, Karen (Tom) Ransohoff of San Jose, CA, Paul (Lisa) Graves of Trabuc, CA, Tim (Sandra) Graves of Tustin, CA, David (Coral) Graves of Newport Beach CA, Carol (Jan) Starcevich of New Lenox, IL, John (Allison) Hahn of Brimfield, IL, Sue Ellen (Craig) Bittle of Canton, IL, Ed Hahn of Kennewick, WA and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Ron worked as a firefighter for the City of Canton. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Canton American Legion and the Canton VFW.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at 11 am with a visitation one hour prior at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory in Canton.
Burial will follow at the St Joseph Cemetery in Canton.

James D. Downing

 St David- James D. Downing, 81, of St. David, passed away Monday July 26, 2021at his home.

He was born November 2, 1939 at Bryant, the son of Paul D. and Vivian I. (Cruser) Downing. Survivors include one brother, Jerry (Betty) Downing of St. David, four nephews, Jerry (Angela) Downing of St. David, Jon Downing of Havana, Joseph Downing of Alton, and James (Tracy) Downing of Havana, several great nieces and nephews, and three cousins, Doris Norton of Canton, Dixie (Butch) Minor of Lewistown, and Diana (Jim) Eyman of Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather, Doyle Maranville, and a nephew, Jeff Downing.

Jimmy retired from the State of Illinois Department of Revenue. He enjoyed fishing and traveling. He was the best uncle any children could want and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Leigh Ann Anderson

 Canton – Leigh Ann Anderson, 68, of Canton, passed away at 1:38 PM on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at her residence. She was born on October 16, 1952 in Pekin, IL to Robert and Frances (Martin) Scalf. She married Virgil Anderson on July 3, 1971 in Canton, IL. He survives.

Also surviving is her mother, Frances Scalf of Canton; one son, Michael Anderson of Canton, IL; one grandson, Jace; and one sister, Valerie (William) Pogeman of Fort Worth, TX.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Leigh Ann was a past member of First Baptist Church in Canton, IL. She loved to bowl on New Years Eve, puzzles, and dancing when she was younger.

Services will be held at 11 AM on Monday, August 2, 2021 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, IL, where a visitation will be held an hour prior. Pastor Monroe Bailey will officiate. Jack D. Hall

Jack (JD) Hall, 77, of Wee Ma Tuk, passed away peacefully with his loved ones by his side on Saturday, July 24, 2021, at Graham Hospital in Canton.
He was born to Charles G. and Dorothy I. (Kirkpatrick) Hall.
He married Cindy (Ruffatto) Hall on February 28, 1964. She survives.
Also Surviving are two children, Rona (Tom) Shubert, and Jana (Tim) Petersen, two grandchildren, Zachary Shubert, and Lexi Petersen. One brother whom he raised as a son, Bobby (Bobby Jo) Hall, two sisters, Joyce Price special niece, Jenny (Josh) Gilstrap and daughter Gianna, sister Judy (John) Ingle, and several nieces and nephews.
Jack was an avid ball player in his formative years with the Sunday morning league. He went on to play fast pitch softball with "Bims" winning the State Championship Tournament in 1974. His daughters said, "we were raised on the bleachers" and could remember him with his intimidating voice as a catcher. He was a legend on the ball field.
He then continued to carry on his love of sports with coaching his daughter's softball team, always giving freely, his time and support also with his grandkids with coaching their YMCA mini basketball teams to always being on the sidelines as their #1 fan.
Jack first worked as a General Foreman at the International Harvester Canton Plant in Department 19 for 22 ½ years. He later joined country Companies in 1983 and then became owner of the Jack Hall Agency until his death.
In his later years Jack dedicated much time to assisting Navistar (International Harvester) Retirees. He had an enormous heart always giving a helpful hand "his way" whenever needed. Jack loved the St. Louis Cardinals and Fighting Illini. He enjoyed going to Bradley Braves Basketball games with his friend Ted. He loved to watch his granddaughter Lexi golf for the University of South Dakota, he traveled many miles to watch her over her career and was her #1 fan. He has always been an endless support to his grandson Zach in his pursuit to further his career in becoming a firefighter. He was always there for his family and there wasn't anything he wouldn't had done for them. He exemplified a life of generosity, kindness, positive attitude, and integrity with everyone he met.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 30, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Following the services cremation rites will be accorded.

Jack R. Carson

Jack R. "Dancin Jack" Carson, 86, of Canton, passed away, Saturday, July 24, 2021, at his home in Canton.
He was born on December 15, 1934, to Thomas Leroy and Emma "Lucille" (Markland). They preceded him in death along with one daughter Barbara Jean Vaughn and two brothers Buddy Thomas Carson and George "Buck" Walter Carson.
He married Sara (Jarnagin) on September 19, 1975 in Canton. She preceded him in death on October 9, 2003.
He is survived by seven children, Vicki Edwards of Arizona, Tina (William) Haile of Canton, Todd Carson of Canton, Tammy Reed of Canton, Jeannie (Mike) Wearly of Georgia, Andy (Krisey) Maricle of Chicago, and John (Kammy) Maricle of Canton, two sisters, Patricia Stairwalt of Canton, and Judy Purtle of Florida, twenty-four grandchildren, thirty-two great grandchildren and one great great grandchild on the way.
Jack retired from Consolidated Coal Company after 28 years. He then worked as head of the Security Department at Graham Hospital from 1992 until 2016.
Jack served in the United States Army for two years during peacetime where he was stationed in Germany.
He was a member of the Canton Elk's Lodge #626. Jack enjoyed music, dancing, roller skating, reading, tennis and a fine glass of wine with good food. Jack's loving smile and presence will be greatly missed by all his friends and family.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 29,2021 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 30, 2021, at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Canton.
Memorials may be made to the Graham Hospital School of Nursing, or to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

Harriett Marie Bertetto

Canton - Harriett Marie Bertetto, 100, of Canton, passed away at 10:50 am, Sunday, July 25, 2021 at Courtyard Estates. She was born on March 8, 1921 in Havana to Harry M. and Della M. (Clanin) Long. Harriett married Joe Bertetto on November 17, 1945 in Havana. He preceded her in death on July 14, 2007. Also preceding her in death were her parents, one brother and one granddaughter, Lara Paige Bertetto.
Surviving are two sons; Joseph Robert (Joanna) Bertetto of Las Vegas, NV and Randall Neal (Debbie Bernardoni) Bertetto of Sparta, IL, three grandsons; Chris (Lorraine) Bertetto, John (Megan) Bertetto and Michael Bertetto and two great-grandchildren; Tony and Bella.
Harriett worked as a stenographer for the State of Illinois and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Canton. She had served as the secretary of Democrat Legion of Women and was a member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary.

David P. Little

 

David P. Little, 67, of Astoria, IL, passed away at 3:12 am on Friday, July 23, 2021 at Mason District Hospital ER in Havana, IL. He was born on June 28, 1954 in Jacksonville, IL, the son of Grant and Margaret (Barrett) Little.

Surviving is his mother, Margaret Little of Jacksonville.

He is preceded by his father, Grant Little.

David taught English and was a Librarian at Astoria Schools for 35 years, retiring in 2007. During his time at the school, he also was a class sponsor for several classes and was the yearbook sponsor. He also worked for the Illinois State Library Association.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church and served as a lay minister for the church. He also spoke at area churches as a fill in pastor. He was also a member and treasurer of the Fulton County Retired Teachers Association. He served as president for the Astoria Federation of Teachers at one time. A talented singer and musician, David often sang and played the piano for area churches and events. He was involved in the McDonough Chorus Society.

Services will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Reverend Bob Green and Barb Wooldridge will be officiating. A visitation will take place 1 hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Interment will be at 3 pm on Tuesday at Fairview Cemetery in Bluffs, IL. Memorials may be made to the Sheldon’s Grove United Methodist Church.

John P. Turner

 

John P. Turner, 64, of rural Elmwood, passed away at 3:31 p.m., on Friday, July 23, 2021, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

He was born November 7, 1956, in Joliet, IL, to John E. and Ann M. (Miles) Turner.
He is survived by his mother of Elmwood; two children, Josh (Amanda) Turner of Peoria, and Jake Turner, of Hendersonville, TN; and one sister, Lori (Jean-Marc) Turner - Cournac.
He is preceded in death by his father.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Elmwood. Cremation rites will then be accorded and a burial of ashes will be held at a later date.

 Pekin – Paula A. Richardson, 59, of Pekin, passed away at 11:15 AM on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at Pekin Manor. She was born on December 12, 1961 in Peoria, IL to Charles Gordon and Marjorie Lee (Montgomery) Richardson.

Surviving are two brothers, Gordon Lee Richardson of Canton and Gearl Ray Richardson of Banner; several nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and nephews; and her significant other, Mark Jones of Pekin.

Paula was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Pamela Burroughs.

Paula was a writer and author, publishing two books. She was known for being a storyteller and she loved cats.

Shane Hammond

Canton-Shane S. Hammond, 50, passed away on Monday, July19, 2021 at his residence.
He was born on June 1, 1971 in Macomb.
Surviving is his father Wally (Sharon) Hammond of Canton, his mother Gay (Larry Bohler) Renner of Canton, one brother, Spencer (Jennifer) Hammond of Farmington, step brothers, Dan (Pamela) Hughes of Canton, Kevin (Mary) Hughes of Punta Gorda, FL and nieces and nephews, Will, Halli, Lilli, Samuel and Ireland.
Shane retired from the U.S. Army after serving in Fallujah and Ramadi, Iraq. He was the past Commander of the Canton American Legion, member of the VFW Post #1984 in Canton, served on the Funeral Honor Guard and a member of the 40 and 8.
He enjoyed music whether it be helping out at local fund raisers or through various theatrical groups.
Cremation rites have been accorded through Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton.
A military service will be held at 1 pm with a celebration of his life to follow on Saturday, July 24, 2021 from 1-4pm at the Canton American Legion.
Burial of his ashes will be held at the Colchester Cemetery at a later date.

Marjorie Helen Hilton

Lewistown- Marjorie Helen Hilton, 96, of Lewistown, passed away at 1:45 PM Monday July 19, 2021 at Clayberg Nursing Home.

She was born March 7, 1925 at rural Lewistown, the daughter of Russell Wayne and Evelyn Marie (Vaughn) Finley. She married Garland Henry Hilton of January 9, 1946 at Peoria. He preceded her in death on June 24, 1996. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one granddaughter, one brother, and two sisters. Survivors include one son, Charles Lee (Naomi) Hilton of Lewistown, three daughters, Carolyn June Foster of Bushnell, Eloise “Weezie” Hertz of Lewistown, and Debra Sue (Curtis Mahr) Cole of Lewistown, ten grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and numerous great great grandchildren.

Helen was a residence manager at the former Broadway Arms in Lewistown for 12 years. She had also worked as a grocery store clerk for 27 years. She was a member of Lewistown VFW Post 5001 Ladies Auxiliary,

Services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday July 24, 2021 at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown. Visitation will be held Friday from 5-7 PM at the memorial home. Doris J. Thomas

 Doris Jeanne Thomas, age 88 of Astoria, Illinois, passed away at 12:53 pm on Monday, July 19, 2021 at her home. She was born on May 7, 1933 in Bader, Illinois, the daughter of John and Margaret Louise (Douglas) McCombs. She married Willard "Pill" Thomas on September 3, 1950 in Astoria. He preceded her in death on April 6, 1998.

She was also preceded in death by her son Stephen, her daughter-in-law Ruth Thomas, her sister Rosa Lee Smith, and five brothers; Harry, Robert, Stuart, Jack and Charles McCombs.

Doris is survived by her son David Thomas of Lewistown, Illinois, her daughter Teresa (and Doug) Knigge of Stoutsville, Missouri, her daughter-in-law Laura Thomas of Astoria, 8 grandchildren; Allan Thomas, Melissa (and Jeff) Payton, Jan (and Jordan Vaughn) Thomas, Brandon (and Angela) Thomas, Shaunea (and Gary) Nichols, Joshua (and Jennifer) Ginger, Mathew (and Kortney) Ginger and Luke (and Justine Moran) Ginger, 6 great-grandchildren; Ashlynn (and Christopher) Tournear, AJ Payton, Anika Ginger, Macie Ginger, Tracy Miller and Cecily Vaughn, and 1 great-great-grandson William Lee Tournear.

She first worked at the Bader Grocery in Bader, then was a supervisor at Astoria Fiber Steel. Later she was a bookkeeper for Cesco Soft Water Service in Ipava, retiring in 1997.

Doris was a member of the Bader Christian Church and the Astoria American Legion Auxiliary where she served as treasurer for many years.

Services will be held on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at 10:00 am at the Bader Christian. Mike Shirley and Pastor Matt Haberman will officiate. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 23rd from 6-8 pm at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Memorials may be made to the Astoria Fire and Rescue Squad or the Bader Christian Church. Interment will be in the Bader Cemetery.

Carol J. Beadles

Canton - Carol J. Beadles, 86, of Canton, passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2021 at Red Oak Estates in Canton.
She was born on January 10, 1934, in Frederick, Illinois, to Charles Dwight and Viola (Adkinson) Kuhn. They preceded her in death
She married Dwayne F. Beadles on February 10, 1950. He preceded her in death in 2015.
She is survived by three children Daniel (Pam) Beadles of Pekin, Linda K. (John E.) Bordner of Canton, Barbara Beadles Taylor of Canton, grandchildren, Troy Bordner, Shauna (Keith) Grant, Donald Beadles, Tracy (Kim) Bordner, Carlye Beadles, Damon (Amanda) Beadles, Scott (Bianca) Beadles, Jillian Jansen, Jackson (Ioana) Junker and great grandchildren, Whitnee, Blake, Blakelie, Kyra, Zoe, Alina, Madeline, AnnaSophia ,Raiden Savannah, Griffin and Olivia and one great great grandson Maks.
Also preceding her in death are two brothers Orville, and Glenn and four sisters, Helen, June, Mildred and Deanna.
Carol worked for Ludlum's Grocery Store in Canton, and later worked for local grocery stores setting up taste testing of different foods. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Canton. She also enjoyed sewing, quilting, making candy and playing slot machines. Carol never met a stranger and enjoyed talking to anyone and everyone, for many years she enjoyed getting together with her friends on the first Monday of the month at Hy Vee.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, July 26, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton. Rev. Kevin VanTine will officiate the service.

Cynthia "Cindy" Poythress-Jones

 Cynthia "Cindy" Poythress-Jones, 68, passed away on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at her residence.
She was born on August 9, 1952 in Peoria to Carroll and Imogene (Sweringer) Mooberry. They preceded her in death.
She married Fred Jones. He survives.
Also surviving are her children, Vince Keefer of Peoria, Niki Keefer of North Pekin, Chad "Katie" Keefer of Roanoke, Step children, Kelly (Darren) Rendleman of Batesville, Arkansas, Nikki (Mike) Bartlett of Bolivar, Missouri, one brother David "Sparky" Mooberry of East Peoria, one sister, Barb Schoch of Peoria, thirteen grandchildren, four step great grandchildren and her 1st great grandson born three months ago.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Steve Mooberry, Brian Mooberry and one sister, Jeannie Pilkington.
Cindy worked at Bemis Bag in Peoria for several years and later as a cook at Eureka College. She was a member of Maples Mill United Methodist Church.
Cremation rites have been accorded through the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory in Canton.
A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, July 25, 2021 at 12 noon at the Maples Mill United Methodist Church.

Terry Stutes

Lewistown-Terry Stutes, 82, passed away on Friday, January 8, 2021 at his residence.
He was born on September 16, 1938 in Canton to Andrew and Pauline (Brooks) Stutes.
He married Karen Ward on November 7, 1959 in Quincy. She survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Sandra Stutes of Dade, FL, Deborah (David) Stell of Lewistown, Barbara (Robert) Colvin of Foley MO and one son Jeffrey Stutes of Lewistown, three grandsons, two step-grandsons, six granddaughters, three step granddaughters, twelve great grandchildren, seven step great grandchildren, three brothers, Andy of Mesa, AZ, Robert of Golden, CO, Larry of Lewistown and one sister, Carol (Ted) Myetich of Lewistown.
His four brothers, one sister and one son preceded him in death.
He was employed by Caterpillar for 17 years as a technical illustrator and owned and operated his own business "Terry's Signs" in Lewistown. He served four years in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Lewistown Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the Lewistown Masonic Lodge #104, Valley of Peoria Scottish Rites and Mohammed Shrine of Peoria.
Cremation rites have been accorded through Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory in Canton.
A burial of the ashes with military honors will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown, on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at 11:00 a.m.

Joseph C. “Bo” Ford

 Cuba- Joseph C. “Bo” Ford, 66, of Cuba passed away at 4:00 AM Sunday July 18, 2021 at Graham Hospital in Canton.

He was born August 31, 1954 at Canton the son of Jack and Leona (Taylor) Ford. He married Kathy Hilton December 28, 1978 at Lewistown. She survives along with eleven children, Heidi (Tim) Dowell of East Peoria, Tiffanie (Dennis) Clark of Cuba, Terie Nieukirk of Cuba, Brandon (Becky) Nieukirk of Indiana, Tami (Damon) McCombs of Cuba, Brandon (Mica) Ford of Cuba, Jerry (Andrea) Ford of Lewistown, Amber (Ryan) Nolan of Lewistown, Erika Ford of Peoria, Ricky (Savanna Reed) Ford of Cuba, and Jessica (Justin Jansen) Ford of Cuba, four brothers, Jerry (Jennifer) Ford of Tennessee, Jack Ford of Lewistown, Jim Ford of Bushnell, Jasper (Kim) Ford of Bushnell, one sister, Viva (Butch) Stambaugh of Cuba, and twenty-five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, John Ford.

Bo retired from Caterpillar after 32 ½ years. He was co-owner of the Ford Memorial Park Pavilion. Bo enjoyed trial rides with his horses; he also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

A visitation will be held from 5-7 PM Thursday at the Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown. Cremation will be accorded following the visitation. Gerald L. “Jerry” Gibbons

 


Lewistown- Gerald L. “Jerry” Gibbons, 81 of rural Lewistown passed away at 6:30 PM Thursday July 15, 2021 at the Loft in Canton.

He was born April 4, 1940 at Bluff Springs the son of George and Virgie (Walbert) Gibbons. He married Jeanette Zeisler on May 12, 1997 at LasVegas, NV. She survives along with six children, Lori (Don) Ware of Aurora, Joy (James) Hagaman of Lewistown, Sue Bess of Bamberg, SC; Laura Smith of Canton, Carol Campbell of Canton, and Steve Smith of Lewistown, one sister, Vicky (Bob) Bolatto of Campus, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Sharon, a daughter, Monica Johnson, two brothers, and one sister.

Jerry was a retired lineman for CIPS. He also operated his own tree trimming service and was a volunteer for the Lewistown Fire Department. He had attended the First Presbyterian Church of Lewistown. Jerry enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, mushrooming, and reading western books.

Cremation will be accorded. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday July 22nd at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown with Pastor Penny Frame officiating. James W. (Jim) Grimm

 

James W. (Jim) Grimm of Elmwood, IL, passed away peacefully at home on July 13, 2021, after a hard and bravely fought battle with cancer. Jim was born on February 26, 1949, in Dodgeville, Wisconsin, the son of Joseph and Margaret Joan Grimm of Mineral Point, Wisconsin.
Jim married Joyce (Moody) Grimm on May 25, 1974, in Elmwood, IL.
Jim is survived by Joyce and their 3 sons: Joseph Grimm of Champaign IL, Justin (Heather) Grimm of Urbana, IL, and Jarrod (Jordan) Grimm of Dunlap, IL; grandchildren, Quinn Penelope and Wilson James; his mother, Margaret Joan Grimm of Mineral Point, WI; siblings, Ann (Tim) Terrill of Mineral Point, WI, Sue Howdle of Mineral Point, WI, Mary Jo (James "Buck") Rolli of Mineral Point, WI, Larry (Tiwani) Grimm of Middlesboro, KY, Marcia (Kent) Roberts of Mineral Point, WI, and Gerry (Paige) Grimm of Mineral Point, WI; and many nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his father, baby brother, and brother-in-law.
Jim graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in mining engineering. After graduating, Jim started work at ASARCO (Midland Coal Company) where he met his wife, Joyce. Jim and 3 partners acquired the land and equipment from ASARCO to establish their own company Midstate Coal Company. He later worked at McBride & Shoff until retirement.
Jim enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and abroad with his wife, Joyce. Jim also enjoyed the outdoors and hiking the Appalachian Trail. Over a three-year period, he dedicated one week a year towards hiking a portion of the trail; this was a great accomplishment for Jim. He also loved ice fishing, entertaining, and spending time with his family and friends. Jim immensely treasured time with his grandchildren, Quinnie and Wilson.
For Jim, caring and loving his family, being a loyal friend, having integrity, and having a strong work ethic inspired him throughout his life.
Jim will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Visitation will be Friday, July 23, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Elmwood, IL. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, July 24, 2021, at St. Patrick's Church in Elmwood, IL, followed by a private family burial of ashes at Elmwood Township Cemetery. Rhonda L. Clark

 Galesburg- Rhonda L. Clark, 64, of Galesburg, and formerly of Lewistown, passed away at 8:33 PM Wednesday July 14, 2021 at OSF St Mary Medical Center.

She was born April 3, 1957 at Canton, the daughter of Robert Dean and Velma (Bennett) Hadsall. Survivors include her loving companion, Steve Watson of Galesburg, two daughters, Jennifer Clark and Crystal Clark both of Galesburg, one granddaughter, Jadalynn Clark, and two sisters, Rosie (Everett) Diden of Canton, and Rita (Dan) Welch of Smithfield. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Rhonda was a graduate of Lewistown High School, and a graduate of Mid State College, and Orion Technical College. She worked for 15 years at Maytag in Galesburg. She enjoyed painting, crafts, and nature. She loved her dog Allie, and being with her granddaughter.

Cremation will be accorded. A visitation will be held on Wednesday July 21, 2021 from 1-2 PM at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown. Tina S. Althiser

 Tina S. Althiser, 59, of Ipava, IL, passed early Monday, July 12, 2021, at her home, with her loving husband by her side.

She was born on August 3, 1961, in Rushville, IL to Marjorie Phillips and raised by her Grandfather, Walter Phillips. On January 25, 1980, Tina married the love of her life, Jeffrey Althiser, he survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Brittney Althiser, Brooke Meyer, and one son, Brenten Althiser. Although Tina only had three children, she was a mother to many. Tina was blessed with six grandchildren who were the light of her life. Ford, Dallas, and Oakley Meyer and Maisie, Cora, and Charlie Althiser were the main driving force of her fight to live with carcinoid cancer.

Also surviving are her brother, Larry Phillips, and sister-in-law, Tina (and Mark) Kessler, as well as five nephews Joe (and Cathy) Phillips, Shaun (and Kayla) Phillips, Adam (and Toni) Phillips, Chad Phillips, Seth (and Kylie) Kessler, and one niece Ali Kessler. She is also survived by her in-laws, Les and Sue Althiser.

Tina is preceded in death by her mother, Marjorie Phillips, grandfather, Walter Phillips, and niece Mindy (Phillips) Koch.

Tina was part of a large, close-knit family with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. While she loved them all, she shared her final days being cared for by three of her cousins. Lori Phillips supported her since her fight began, including doctor visits and ER trips. Melinda Myers helped her put her dreams into action at her new home and provided her with unending support. And most recently, Dianna Graham made herself available at all hours during her final weeks.

The simplest pleasures brought joy to Tina’s life; she was happiest surrounded by her loved ones. She enjoyed fishing, arrowhead hunting, and game nights with family and friends. Jeff and Tina shared 41 years of marriage, building a love for the ages.

Services will be held at 3 pm on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Pastor Steve Castaneda will be officiating. A visitation will take place from 1 to 3 pm before the service on Saturday. Interment will be in the Ipava cemetery. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.

Jeri Carrier

Canton - Jeri Carrier, 67, of Canton, Passed away Tuesday, July 13, 2021, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
She was born on July 1, 1954, in Canton to Gerald R. and Lena M. (Rowley) Carrier. She is preceded in death by her mother.
Surviving is her father, two children whom she raised, Kelly Douglass Fawcett, and Jeff Fawcett, one brother Mike (Dot Hills), three sisters, Diane (Wendell Covert) Carrier, Debbie (Larry) Ward and LuAnn (Steve) Miller, several nieces and nephews, and a dear friend Vickie McMillan.
Jeri currently worked at Renaissance Care Center in the Dietary Department for over 20 years. She enjoyed her job, working with friends and helping others. Jeri loved music especially Garth Brooks. Most of all she loved spending time and going to dinner with her family and friends.

Betty Cowan

Canton - Betty Cowan, 93, of Canton, passed away at 7:30 am, Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at her residence. She was born on October 1, 1927 in Bryant, IL to Nelles and Minerva (Simpson) Laird. Betty first married Edwin Downing. He preceded her in death and she later married Otto Cowan on September 24, 1983. He also preceded her in death on August 9, 1989. She was also preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, son Lanny Gene Fidler, granddaughter Amber Zaborac, six brothers; Dewey, Clyde, Lyle, Ross, Guy and Gene Laird, four sisters Opal, Leona, Thelma Laird and Hazel Howard.
Surviving is a daughter Debra (Mike Johnson) Zaborac of Canton and her Siamese cat, Mariska.
Betty worked at Graham Hospital, Renaissance Care Center and Oaks-Hines Funeral Home. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and the Women of the Moose in Canton.
Her favorite pastime was reading mysteries and Indian books. She enjoyed watching "Day's of our Lives", baking cookies and giving them away. She was known as the "Cookie Lady"
A visitation will be held on Monday, July 19, 2021 from 5-7pm, at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton. Cremation rites have been accorded and the burial of the ashes will follow in White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at 10 am.

Steven Walter Flinn

 Steven Walter Flinn, 59, of Elmwood, passed away on Monday, July 12, 2021, surrounded by loved ones. Born November 1, 1961, to Harold and RuthAnn Flinn, Steve lived a life of adventure and excitement. Steve grew up riding his motorcycle with his best friends across the Maquon countryside. It was not too long after high school that Steven met the love of his life, Susan (Turner). They married August 8, 1981, and enjoyed almost 40 years of wonderful marriage. Together, they had three children, Mallory (Steve) Miller of Elmwood, Drew (Leslie) Flinn of Peoria, and Graham (Marykate) Flinn of Glen Carbon IL. Steven loved many things in life. As an avid motorcyclist, Steven traveled across many states, countries, and continents on his trustee KTM Motorbike. When Steven was not on the road, you could find him in Peoria managing his property business, or at home tinkering with whatever creative project he had going on. Though the open road was his place for adventure, he loved nothing more than spending time with friends, family, and his wonderful grandchildren, Jack, Harrison, Evelyn, & Lillian Miller and Leona Flinn.
Steve is survived by four siblings, Patricia (Charles) Brown of Galesburg IL, Doug (Tamara) Flinn of Centerburg OH, Edward (Claire) Flinn of Bettendorf, IA, and Mary (Arno) Peterson of Naperville IL; and brothers-in-law Bob (Carolyn) Turner and Mark (Christine) Turner, both of Berwyn PA; and mother-in-law, Janet Turner (the late Bob) of Elmwood. He is preceded in death by his parents, RuthAnn & Harold Flinn.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 17, 2021, at the First Presbyterian Church in Elmwood. A memorial service will immediately follow at 12:00 p.m. held at the church, followed by food and fellowship.

Gordon Coppenbarger

Canton - Gordon Coppenbarger, 86, of Canton passed away at 10:44 pm Friday, July 9, 2021 at his residence surrounded by family. He was born on April 25, 1935 in Havana to Clarence and Lillie (Hendee) Coppenbarger. Gordon married Lowane Rilea on October 16, 1954 in Havana. She survives along with four children; Julie Coppenbarger, Kelly Rawley and Sonja Cozad, all of Canton and Gordon Coppenbarger II of Peoria Heights, six grandchildren; Andrea Evans, Alicia Evans, Carly Cronk, Jill Rawley, Brandy Cozad and Ryan Cozad, sixteen great-grandchildren, four great great-grandchildren and a nephew Jim Service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Vicky Hall and one sister Helen Chase.
Gordon retired from International Harvester Company as a forklift driver after 31 years of service. He read his bible every day and always had a smile on his face.

Donald Larry Reffett

Moline - Donald Larry Reffett, 78, of Moline, passed away at 5:34 am Sunday, July 11, 2021 at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg. He was born on December 5. 1942 in Canton to Eugene L. "Beany" and Anna (Moss) Reffett. Don married Leslie L. "Lynn" Fouts on October 14, 1967 in Canton. She survives along with two children; Brian (Amanda) Reffett of Wheaton, MN and Larilyn Reffett of Tucson, AZ, one brother John (Nancy) Reffett of Batavia, IL and two grandsons: Hunter and Bee Reffett.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Lee Reffett.
Don worked at International Harvester Company as a supervisor and later in security at Augustana college. He was a member of the United Christ Methodist Church in East Moline.

George S. Harn

Lewistown- George S. Harn, 91, of “Harnsville” Lewistown, passed away at 9:25 PM Friday July 9, 2021 at Clayberg Nursing Home in Cuba.

He was born August 23, 1929 at Cuba, the son of Isaac and Opal (Willcoxen) Harn. He married Thelma Wilcoxen on November 18, 1950 at Lewistown. She survives with three sons, Daryl harn of Tarpon Springs, FL; Scott Harn of Tarpon Springs, FL; Kevin Harn of Lewistown, two daughters, Kathy Kruzan of Lewistown, and Brenda (Jim) Nicholson of Lewistown, seven grandchildren, Angela (Andrew) Gamsby of Clearwater, FL; Stephanie Myers of Galesburg, Sonya (Nick) Smith of Lewistown, Brooke McBride of Canton, Whitney (Joseph) Dudek of Nashville, IL; Christopher Harn of Canton, and Isaac (Kelsey) Harn of Campton, KY; several great grandchildren, and several step grandchildren, one brother, Lewis Harn of Lewistown, and one sister, Jane Boyd of Lewistown. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Georgia Griffin, six sisters, and one brother.

George retired from the CB&Q Railroad. He later worked at Pratt Lumber for many years, and also was a school crossing guard for 26 years at Lewistown Central School. He served as a Sergeant in the Army during the Korean War, and was a lifetime member of Lewistown VFW Post 5001.

A graveside services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday July 17, 2021 at Oak Hill Cemetery with Darla Henderson officiating. Gilbert W. Noland

Lewistown- Gilbert W. Noland, 87, of Lewistown, passed away at 7:35 PM Thursday July 8, 2021 at OSF St Francis Medical Center.

He was born October 26, 1933 at Monterey, the son of I. B. and Mildred (Curtis) Noland. He married Charlotte Lou Jones on June 6, 1953 at Lewistown. She preceded him in death on January 2, 2018. He was also preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and three sisters. Survivors include one daughter, Tamra Jolliff of Lewistown, one grandson, Justin (Fiancée Hannah Watt) Derry of Lewistown, two brothers, Larry (Karen) Noland of Canton, Danny (Sue) Noland of Lexington, IL; one sister, Judy Picton of Dunlap, and his beloved Dachshund, Kelsee Sue.

Gilbert retired from NAPA Auto Parts in Havana, and had also worked at Berry Auto Supply in Lewistown. He served in the United States Navy and was a member of Lewistown VFW Post 5001, and American Legion Bishop Post 1. He was a member of the Monterey Methodist Church, and the Gear Jammers Car Club. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, gardening, and wood working.

His funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown, with Pastor Joey Watt officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services and burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery with military rites conducted by his VFW and American Legion posts. Kenneth “Kenny” Azel Bloyd

Kenneth “Kenny” Azel Bloyd, 64, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at his residence in Canton, Illinois.

He is survived by his sons Nathan and Kyle (Alicia) Bloyd both of Canton; ten grandchildren Jesse Martinez, Addison Rogers (fiance Tyler Noland), Cody Martinez, Devon Martinez, Blake Bloyd, Bradley Gerdom, Zion Bloyd, Brogan Smith, Noelle Bloyd, and Truman Bloyd; four great grandchildren Gabriel Martinez, Noah Martinez, Lemmy Noland, Charley Noland; his mother Rose Mary Bloyd of Lewistown; the mother of his children Jeanine Standard of Canton; his loving partner Geneva Becker of Lawn Ridge; his siblings Kathy Burton of Canton, Greg (Pam) Bloyd of East Peoria, and Glenda (Bart) Seward of Lewistown; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Danny Bloyd and a son Jeremy Ryan Bloyd.

He was born September 9, 1956 at Graham Hospital in Canton, Illinois to Danny and Rose Mary (Sizek) Bloyd. He was a 1974 graduate of Lewistown Community High School. He worked for Mid-Century Telephone Co-Op for nearly two decades and was the minister of Bryant Christian Church in the 1980s.

In 1990, he resigned from Mid-Century and went back to school and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Religion at Eureka College. From there he enrolled in a Dual Master's Program in Divinity and Social Work at the University of Chicago. After receiving his Master’s Degree, he had a long career in ministry, chaplaincy, psychotherapy, and social work in Canton and the surrounding community which included the role as youth minister at Sunnyland Christian Church, full time minister at Cuba Christian Church, a position as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Chaplain at Graham Hospital, a minister at First Congregational UCC in Canton, IL, Psychotherapy Department Manager at Mason District Hospital, and currently the chaplain at Spoon River Correctional Center.

Kenny truly loved his family, St. Louis Cardinal baseball, old cars, all things related to faith and religion, good humor, food and drink. He was passionate about learning anything new, presiding over weddings and funerals, and helping people cope with death and dying.

A visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, IL. Services will be held at 1 PM on Friday, July 16, 2021 at the funeral home. Rev. Galesburg - Dennis S. Lane, 63, of Galesburg, passed away at 6:47 am, Sunday, July 11, 2021 at his residence. He was born on January 15, 1958 in Galesburg to Melvin and Donna (Johnson) Lane. Dennis married Robin L. Smith on October 6, 2017 in Galesburg. She survives along with three children; Spencer Lane, Hannah Laursen and Haylee Laursen all of Galesburg, two brothers; Kevin Lane of Galesburg and Mike McGill of Abingdon and one sister Deborah Anderson of Galesburg.

Linda F. Sheets

 Lewistown- Linda F. Sheets, 84, of rural Lewistown passed away at 3:45 PM Wednesday July 7, 2021 at the home of her daughter and caregiver in Ipava.

She was born July 1, 1937 at Mt. Sterling the daughter of George and Fern (House) Dennis. She married R. Duane “Dewey” Sheets on September 4, 1954 at Mt. Sterling. He died May 29, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son, Robert Sheets, four brothers, three sisters, and three great grandchildren. Surviving are four sons, Rick Sheets of Little America, Tony (Marla) Sheets of Lewistown, Harold (Cris) Sheets of Lewistown, Terry Sheets of Lewistown, and Carl (Robin) Beebe of Vermont a nephew that she considered a son, three daughters, Carol Pasley of St. David, Susan (David) Fouts of Ipava, and Kay (Chad) Wilson of Lewistown, two brothers, Ted (Linda) Dennis of Belleville and Jim (Margaret) Dennis of Quincy, 24 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.

Linda was a homemaker. She had also worked in home healthcare for many years. She was a member of the former First Baptist Church in Lewistown and then became a member of Waterford Union Church at rural Lewistown. Linda had served as a trustee for Waterford Township Board. Linda enjoyed flowers especially her rose garden, she also enjoyed sewing, embroidering, her grandchildren, and hosting big family dinners.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday at the Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with her nephew, Reverend Patrick Sheets officiating. David Charles Hamm

 David Charles Hamm, 53, of Canton, passed away at 6:50 AM on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at his residence. He was born on November 8, 1967 in Peoria, IL to Lyndon and Cynthia (Young) Hamm.
David is survived by his mother; one daughter, Karlie Hamm of Roanoke, IL; two grandchildren, Jerzie Fatigato and Thea Stine both of Roanoke, IL; one grandchild on the way; and one sister, Laryssa (Angela Wilson) Hamm of Canton, IL.
He is preceded in death by his father.
David’s greatest love was for his daughter, granddaughters, and chocolate. He really enjoyed motorcycles, outdoors, and working in the garage.

Remi Lee Eve Hansen

Remi Lee Eve Hansen, infant daughter of Matthew Allen and Makayla (Meyer) Hansen was stillborn on Monday, July 5, 2021 at Graham Hospital.

Surviving are her parents; one brother, Avery Hansen of Havana; maternal grandparents, Sharon Meyer and Henry Kaler both of Havana; paternal grandparents, Gayson and Marie Villaruel of Havana.

Jenna Leigh Roman

 

Canton – Jenna Leigh Roman, 29, of Canton, formerly of Hopewell, passed away at 4:45 PM on Sunday, July 4, 2021 at Renaissance Care Center. She was born on June 2, 1992 in Peoria, IL to Kellie (Roman) Espinoza.

Surviving is her mother, Kellie (Roman) Espinoza of Kingwood, TX; two siblings, Ryder and Rylen both of Kingwood, TX; and her grandpa, Robert Roman of Washington, IL.

Jenna was preceded in death by her grandma, Cheryl Hamrick of Hopewell, IL.

Jenna graduated from Canton High School in 2014. Those who were touched by Jenna’s endearing personality understood her quality of existence far exceeded the quantity of time in which she lived. She was unsullied by sin or moral wrong, lacking a knowledge of evil. Jenna will be sadly missed and greatly mourned by all those who were blessed to know and love her.

Connie M. Ripley

Canton – Connie M. Ripley, 69, of Canton, passed away at 3:02 PM on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center. She was born on July 5, 1952 in Peoria, IL to Howard and Thelma (James) McGinnis. She married Dennis Ripley on January 16, 1971 at the Harvard Hills Baptist Church in Washington, IL. He survives.

Also surviving is her mother, Thelma; three children, Hallie (Doug Keirl) Decapp of Cuba, IL, Tonya (Jeff) Belville of Canton, IL, and Lewis (Jill) Ripley of Washington, IL; eight grandchildren, Kaleb (Kitara) Decapp, J.J. (Ashley) Belville, Kylee (Austin) Decapp, Toby Belville, Kahner Ripley, Mason Belville, Jacee Ripley, and Josie Belville; one great-granddaughter, Addison Belville; and three sisters, Carolyn McGinnis, Charlotte (Ron) Henn, and Sandra (Lendel) Walters.

Connie was preceded in death by her father and one brother, Jimmy McGinnis.

Connie was a dedicated employee with a strong work ethic, working at Export Packaging for over 17 years and last working as a hotel clerk at the Harvester Inn for over 10 years. She was a hard worker and was very dedicated to taking care of her mother. Connie loved her family and her grandchildren, and enjoyed vacationing with them.

Services will be held at 11 AM on Monday, July 12, 2021 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, IL where a visitation will be held from 10-11 AM. Rev. Will Ferguson will officiate. Lynn E. Davis

 Lynn E. Davis, 78, of Canton, passed away at 7:23 PM on Monday, July 5, 2021 at his residence. He was born on January 14, 1943 in Canton, IL to August “Gus” and Mary Jane (Ruey) Davis. He married Toni McGinnis on June 11, 1965 in Canton, IL. She preceded him in death on February 26, 2003.
Lynn is also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Wiley and Robert Davis.
He is survived by three children, Lynette (Brandon) Murphy, Amy Davis, and Robert Davis; and two grandchildren, Christopher Davis and Brody Scarcliff.
Lynn worked and retired from Caterpillar after 35 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Amber K. Larsen

Amber K. (Shaw) Larsen, 56, of Elmwood, passed away on Friday, July 2, 2021, at her home. She was born on October 15, 1964, in Peoria, to Robert Snare and Janet (Cox) Ferguson. Amber married David Larsen on May 17, 2008, in Savanna, IL. He survives along with one daughter, Holly Pudney; one brother, Ron Snare; and one grandchild, Maddison Pudney.


She is preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Robert Snare, Jr. Cremation rites have been accorded. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Randolph Scott Pierson

Havana - Randolph Scott Pierson, 62, of Havana, passed away at 8:40 pm, June 28, 2021 at the Havana Heath Care in Havana. He was born on June 2, 1959 in Springfield to Phines Charles and Lacona (Anderson) Pierson. They preceded him in death along with five brothers and four sisters.
Surviving are two children; Randy Pierson Jr. and Jennifer Pierson, four brothers; Russell Fortney, Kenny Fortney, Darrell Pierson and Stephen Pierson, two sisters; Patricia Fortney and Kathy Colson and four grandchildren.
Randy was a self-employed carpenter.
Cremation rites have been accorded and there will be a Celebration of Life at 1 pm Sunday, July 25 2021 at River Front Park in Havana. Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory in Canton is in charge of arrangements.
