Patricia Walter


Laura – Mary Patricia “Pat” Walter, 96, of Laura, passed away at 3:46 AM on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center. She was born on July 18, 1922 in Cambridge, IL to Allen L. and Mary (Moriarity) Tolman. She married Emil F. Walter on January 15, 1949, he preceded her in death in 1995.

Pat was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Robert Tolman.

Surviving are six children, Linda S. Walter of Trivoli, Robert (Janet) Walter of Laura, Richard (Caron) Walter of Laura, Rebecca (Saeed) Hamid-Khani of Dallas, TX, Sherry (John) Geltmaker in Peoria, and Randy Walter of Laura; seven grandsons; and seven great-grandchildren.

Pat graduated from Central High School, Brown’s Business College in Peoria and attended Bradley University and Moody Bible College in Chicago. She worked at Block & Kuhl and Peoria Streetcar Company as a bookkeeper, and then as a draftsman at Caterpillar. In her mid-twenties, she sold her rental property in Peoria to buy a farm in Trivoli although she knew nothing about farming. In the process of caring for her sheep, she met Emil Walter, a neighboring farmer. They were married in 1949 and she became a full-time farmer and homemaker remaining on their farm until her death.

Pat enjoyed a full and varied life which included the love for animals, especially dogs, playing guitar, piano and organ, drawing and cross-stitching. She was a life-long learner and voracious reader, traveled to Artic and Antartic, Europe, Asia, South America, and China, mostly alone on freighters. She learned many languages including Latin, Spanish, Hebrew, and Greek. Pat was very active in the Laura United Methodist Church where she was a member and taught Sunday school for many years. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and community while she enjoys her new chapter in eternity with the Lord.

Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral home in Farmington. Rev. Angela Feldman will officiate. Kendall Tucker


Wee-Ma-Tuk- Kendall E. Tucker, 64, of Wee-Ma-Tuk, passed away at 1:00 AM on Monday, April 29, 2019 at Loyola University Medical Center. He was born on December 15, 1954 in Downer’s Grove to Laverne Tucker and Marion Thurchek. He married Cheryl Slade on October 15, 1977 in Downer’s Grove, IL, she survives.

Also surviving is one daughter, Lindsey (Tony Smith) Tucker of Jacksonville, FL; one brother, Ted (Patty) Tucker of South Carolina; two sisters, Marylin Bozec of Canton and Lisa Heim of Canton; and his mother-in-law, Laverne Slade of Romeoville, IL.

Kendall was preceded in death by his parents and his step-father who raised him, Ron Mullen.

Kendall retired as a teacher in St. David and Lewistown after 34 years. He coached girls’ and boys’ basketball for many years and also refereed girls’ volleyball. Kendall was also a four-year sponsor for Lewistown class of 2008. He loved training dogs and was an avid hunter.

A Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Friday, May 3, 2019 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, IL. Services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at the funeral home, where a visitation will be held from 10-11 AM. Rev. Kevin VanTine will officiate. Barbara “Barb: Bohanan


Barbara “Barb” Ann Bohanan, 79, of Canton, Illinois passed away peacefully, on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at her home in Canton.

She was born on August 21, 1939 in Havana, Illinois, to Herbert and Avis (Dobson) Dye. Barbara married Clyde Ferree Sr., in 1960 in Havana Illinois, She later married Cary Lynn Bohanan, on August 3, 1973, in Havana.

She is survived by her husband Cary, three sons Clyde Ferree Jr. of Canton, Mark (Rhonda) Ferree of Havana, and Matthew Bohanan of Canton, seven grandchildren, Ryan (Cynthia) Ferree of Cedar City UT, Kori (Derek) Hayden of York PA, Derek Ferree of Monterey CA, Tyler Ferree of Santa Barbara CA, Kurstin and Connor Bohanan of Canton, and Chandler Franciskovich of Canton, nine great grandchildren, Jenna, Hannah, Savannah, Rebekah and Emma Ferree, all of Cedar City UT, and Lydia, Luke, Alexis and Ammon Hayden all of York PA., brothers Kenny (Jane) Dye of Havana, Mike (Kathy) Dye of Lewistown and Allen (Kathy) Dye of Havana, and sisters Valera Middleton of Havana, Linda (Paul) Bailey of Havana , Mary (Gary) Kolves of Bath and Judy Richardson of Eagle River AK and one sister in law Kathy V. Dye of Havana.

Preceding her in death are her parents, and three brothers, Louis Dye, Gary Dye and Grover “Buck” Dye.

Barb graduated in 1973 from Spoon River College as an LPN. During her 46 years of nursing she worked at various hospitals and nursing homes. “Bo” as her coworkers affectionately called her worked the past 33 years at Sunset Manor in Canton. “Bo” loved her Sunset Manor family, she even worked months up until her passing.

She enjoyed tending to her gardens, taking her kids to dirt bike races and playing scrabble. She was an Avid Chicago Cubs fan, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. Barb was many things to many people, but above all she was herself and that’s why so many people loved her.

 In lieu of fresh flowers, if flowers are to be given the family requests perennials, so the family can plant them in her garden where they will bloom for many years to come to signify the life that she lived.

Memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2019 from  3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Goose Pit in Banner.

Sharon L. Phillips


Glasford – Sharon L. Phillips, 72, of Glasford, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Kindred Hospital in Peoria.
She was born on July 20, 1946 to William C. Meyers and Mary J. (Lamar).
Sharon is survived by her husband, John W. Phillips whom she married at Trinity Temple in Peoria on June 26, 1965.
Also surviving are three children, John W. (Kathy) Phillips, of Hanna City, Amber R. (Jerry) Smithers, of Mapleton, and Jason A. Phillips, of Peoria, one sister Pam (Ed) Locke, of Canton, six grandchildren, Gabe Smithers, Seth Phillips, Camri Phillips, Micah Phillips, Zeke Phillips, and Lucas Phillips, and several nieces and nephews.
Sharon was preceded in death by her mother, Mary and one son, Steve M. Phillips.
Sharon Graduated from Manual High school in 1965, she retired as a custodian from the Canton Union School District in 2018, she was a member of the Covenant Community Fellowship Church, and most of all she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
A Funeral service will be held on Monday, April 29, 2019 at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory in Canton at 10 a.m., where visitation will be held the night before, Sunday, April 28, 2019 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m.
Burial will be held at Lancaster Cemetery in Glasford.

Lynn Ann Berg


Lynn Ann Berg, 68, of Owen, WI, passed away at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Clark Co. Rehab & Living Center in Owen, WI. She was born on June 12, 1950 in Canton, IL to Norman A. Nickerson and Barbara L. (Johns) Routson. She first married Stephan Christians, he survives. She later married Ronald G. Berg in June of 1984, he survives.

Also surviving is her mother; two daughters, Stephanie Christians of Winfield Township, IL and Emily G. (Jason) Garbisch of West Bend, WI; four grandchildren, Kristina L. Kalin of Dickinson ND, Anna G. Kalin of Bolingbrook, IL, Lauren G. and August J. Garbisch both of West Bend, WI.

Lynn was preceded in death by her father, her son, Joseph M. Christians of Bolingbrook, IL, and her step-father, Chester E. Routson.

Lynn retired as a registered nurse from Grant Hospital in Chicago, IL. She was of the Lutheran Faith.

Services will be held at 5 PM on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, IL, where a visitation will be held from 3-5 PM. Pastor Micah Garnett will officiate. Fairview – Samuel J. Nelson, 23, of Fairview, passed away at 10:22 PM on Sunday, April 21, 2019 at his residence. He was born on August 30, 1995 in Galesburg to Joseph Nelson and Erin (Schisler) Reed.

Surviving are his parents; step-father, Jody Reed; step-mother, Hope Nelson; one brother, Ian Reed of Fairview; one sister, Emma Nelson of Galesburg; step-brother, Robert “R.J.” Bearmore; maternal grandparents, Susan and Van White of Altona, IL and Monte Schisler of Galesburg, IL; and paternal grandpa, John Nelson of Galesburg.

Samuel was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Kay Nelson of Galesburg.

Samuel loved gardening, fishing, junking, and baseball. He always made people smile. Samuel loved his family.

Tommy Lee Hammond, Jr.


Tommy Lee Hammond, Jr., age 30 of Adair, Illinois, passed away at 10:22 am on Monday, April 22, 2019 near Ellisville, IL. He was born on April 26, 1988 in Macomb, IL, the son of Tommy Lee and Bonnie Lee (Quin) Hammond.

Tommy is survived by his father, Tommy Lee (and Brandy) Hammond, Sr. of Astoria, IL, his mother Bonnie Schisler of Little America, IL, his girlfriend Trista Miller of Adair, with whom he made his home, two daughters, Ady Musson of Effingham, IL and Tamzyn Hammond at home, three sons, Dakoda Schoonover, Chase Schoonover, and Decklan Schoonover, all at home, three sisters, Fawna Hammond and Amanda Hammond of Astoria and Jessamee Hundley of Pontiac, IL, one brother Jerious Hammond of Astoria, and Grandparents Bill and Sara Hammond of Bardolph, IL and Donald Sprinkle of Doddsville, IL.

Tommy was preceded in death by one brother Jairous Hammond and grandparents Dale and Ella Quin and Margaret Sprinkle.

He worked as a logger and welder.

Tommy loved his family deeply and enjoyed spending time with them. He also loved to fish.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of Tommy's life will be held at a later date.

Carole Beth Henderson


Wee-Ma-Tuk – Carole Beth (Hummel) Henderson, 77, of Wee-Ma-Tuk, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, April 20, 2019. She was born on October 15, 1941 in Canton to Carl and Charlotte (Thompson) Hummel.

Surviving are three daughters, Cherie (Tim) Dodge of Lindenhurst, IL, Julie (Shelton) Lee of Orlando, FL, and Angela (Wayne) Sisson of Charlotte, NC; five grandchildren, Jordan (Lee) Wohlleber, Jarrod Lee, Ashley (Franzoni) Watts, Kelley Dodge, and Nathan Dodge; one brother, Leroy (Carol) Hummel of Canton; and her significant other for 30 years, Charlie Schlangen.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Beth graduated from Canton High School and Midstate College. She worked as an executive secretary for Mid Century Telephone Cooperative. Beth was an avid gardener and enjoyed sharing the abundance from her vegetable garden. She especially loved making bouquets of fresh cut flowers. Beth was an enthusiastic reader and enjoyed playing cards with her pinochle club, family, and friends. She also loved traveling to spend time with her daughters and attend her grandchildren’s life events. She will be dearly missed.

A private graveside service will be held at White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton, IL. Rev. Jerry Sawyer will officiate. Celebration of Life will be held from 3-6 PM on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at the Canton American Legion. Cremation rites will be accorded through Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton. Mary Jane Brown


Mary Jane (Youngblood) Brown 76 died Monday April 22, at Memorial Hospice at Heritage in Springfield, Illinois.

Mary Jane was born on June 9, 1942 in Canton, IL to Nina Moschero Youngblood and Roy Youngblood, of Farmington, IL. She married Michael J. Brown on March 21, 1964, in Yates City, IL. He passed away on Aug. 8, 2001. Surviving are a daughter, Marcia J. Brown of Warrenville, IL, and a son Mark J. Brown, his wife Angie and grandsons Xander and Vincent Brown of Virginia, IL. Both of her parents Roy and Nina Youngblood preceded her in death. She had no siblings.
 Mary Jane grew up in Farmington, IL and graduated with the Farmington Community High School Class of 1960. She graduated Western Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education in 1964.She taught English in Canton Union School District, Canton, IL from 1964-1972. She taught English and Speech communications at Virginia Jr./Sr. High School in Virginia, IL from 1978-2005. While in Virginia she completed graduate work at Sangamon State University.  After retiring, she taught internet-based classes at the Cass, Schuyler, Morgan County Alternative School in Beardstown, IL from 2006-2010. She then substitute taught in the Cass county schools. She was thankful for the closeness of her family members. She always enjoyed teaching, using the computer, reading, gardening, crafts, and traveling. She compiled and printed a family Italian recipe book “The Buffo-Moschero Italian Recipes” to preserve family history. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family, grandsons, and retired teachers.

Mary Jane was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Delta Kappa Gamma International Honorary Society for Women Educators. She wrote the monthly newsletter for Delta Kappa Gamma. She was also a member of the NEA-IEA, a life member of the Illinois Retired Teachers and the Cass County Retired Teachers, as well as a member of the WIU Alumni Assoc. and AARP.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2019, from 6-8 PM at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory in Canton, IL with a funeral service on Friday, April 26, 2019 at 1 PM at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Farmington, IL. Memorials are suggested to the Virginia School Band, Virginia, IL or donations can be made to The Handbell Choirs of the First United Methodist Church in Downers Grove, IL, under the direction of Pattie Barnes.

Donna J. VanMiddlesworth


Cuba – Donna J. VanMiddlesworth, 79, of Cuba, passed away at 9:35 PM on Sunday, April 21, 2019 at her residence. She was born on October 31, 1939 in Canton to Sheldon and Ruth (Ashby) Lingenfelter. She was married to Wayne A. VanMiddlesworth for 62 years, he preceded her in death on December 1, 2018.

Donna was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Gene, Virgil, and Sam, and five sisters, Melba, Tootsie, Juanita, Bernice, and Wilma.

Also surviving are five children, Teresa St. Clair of Lewistown, Sherry (Terry) Klinedinst of Cuba, Todd (Stephanie) VanMiddlesworth of Canton, Duke (Sheila) VanMiddlesworth of Cuba, and Rusty (Rachel) VanMiddlesworth of Lewistown; fourteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; and one sister, Judy Bowman of Canton.

Donna worked as a CNA for several years, then enjoyed being a homemaker. She loved flowers, working in the yard, and gambling. Donna was a strong-willed woman.

Martha Jane Miller


Martha Jane Miller, age 85 of Vermont, IL, passed away at 9:30 pm on Friday, April 19, 2019 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice in Joliet, IL. She was born on August 6, 1933 in Galesburg, IL, the daughter of Clifford C. "Eph" and Katherine F. (Whitney) Mercer. She married Fred Miller on July 29, 1956 in Vermont. He preceded her in death on June 30, 2014.

Martha Jane was also preceded in death by her two brothers, Charles David and Whitney O. Mercer.

She is survived by three sons; Kenneth (and Linda) Miller of Coal City, IL, Jeffrey Miller of Vermont, IL and Clifford (and Charla) Miller of Vermont, IL, three grandchildren; Michael (and Caitlynne) Miller, Jason (and Savanah Rea) Miller, and Megan (and Matthew) McIlvane, and five great-grandchildren; Journie Miller, Winnsor Miller, Mason McIlvane, Bennett Miller, and Mila McIlvane, and a special friend of the family Dee Andreas.

Martha was a 1951 graduate of VIT High School and a 1955 graduate of MacMurray College with a degree in Business Education. She taught school at Dunlap for one year. She then worked as a teller for the Bank Of Cicero for several years before working for the Vermont State Bank in Vermont, IL for over 20 years.

She was an active member of the Chapter C PEO Sisterhood for over 64 years.

Martha and Fred enjoyed traveling and wintering in Florida. She enjoyed flower gardening and bird watching.

She loved spending time with her grandchildren and her Golden Retrievers.

Services will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at 10:00 am at the Vermont Christian Church. Tim Gilliland will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Vermont Christian Church Food Pantry. Interment will be in the Vermont Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Monday, April 22, 2019 from 6-8 pm at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, IL.

Marjorie Ann Vickers

 Table Grove – Marjorie Ann (Jacobus) Vickers, 91, of Table Grove, passed away at 1:45 PM on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at Heartland Healthcare Center in Macomb, IL. She was born on December 31, 1927 in Smithfield, IL to Earl and Mabel (Gardner) Jacobus. She married Lee Stell in 1943, he preceded her in death. She later married Norburn “Vic” Vickers, he preceded her in death in 2007.

Marjorie was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Danny Stell; one granddaughter, Robin (Settles) Bowers; seven brothers, Doyle, Harold “Buss”, Melvin, Bill, Gardner, Sheldon, and Don Jacobus; and four sisters, Maxine Pschierre, Mildred Long, Hazel Gibbons, and Mary Sarff.

Surviving is one daughter, Deborah R. (Stell-Settles) Danner of Ipava; one granddaughter, Crystal Harris of Rushville; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Audrey Taeubner of Pekin; and several nephews and nieces.

Marjorie owned and operated Marjorie Vickers Antique Store in Table Gove and Rushville until 2010. She was a past member of Shields Chapel Church. Marjorie enjoyed life, traveling, antiques and auctions, and was an avid collector of “Days Gone By”. She was a country girl at heart. Marjorie loved her pet dogs, but her life’s caring love was her daughter, Debbie.

Graveside service will be held at 10 AM on Friday, April 26, 2019 at Baughman Cemetery in Smithfield, IL. Rev. Kevin VanTine will officiate. Helen M. Wise


Helen M. Wise, age 86 of Springfield, IL, formerly of Astoria, passed away at 9:42 am Monday, April 15, 2019 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. She was born on March 18, 1933 in Astoria, the daughter of Roy C. and Josephine (Gilson) McMullen. Helen married Clair D. Schisler on June 23, 1951 at Ft. Ord, CA. He preceded her in death on July 29, 1967. She later married George H. Wise on June 9, 1984 in Astoria. He preceded her in death on July 16, 2015.

Helen was also preceded in death by two brothers, Russell McMullen and Roy McMullen, Jr. and two sisters, Bernita Perez and Virginia McMullen.

Surviving are two sons, James (and Barb) Schisler of New London, IA and Thomas (and Annette) Schisler of Troy, MO, two daughters, Christy (and Dave Hultgren) Schisler of Peoria, IL and Lori J. Schisler (and John Romano) of Springfield, IL, four granddaughters, six great-grandchildren, three step-daughters; Marsha Colletta of Oakland, OR, Carrie Wise of Pensacola, FL, and Kristen (and Brad) Bettencourt of Annapolis, MD, two step-sons, Ed (and Kathryn) Wise of Worland, WY and Dan (and Robin) Wise of Bolingbrook, IL, eleven step-grandchildren, thirteen step-great-grandchildren, and one sister, Joan (and Rodney) Butler of Fenton, MO.

Helen was an LPN, working for the Fulton County Health Department in Canton, IL. She later was the manager for the Fulton County Health Department's sub-office in Astoria, retiring in 1993.

She was a member of the Astoria Christian Church.

She enjoyed cooking for her family whom she loved deeply.

Services will be held on Friday, April 19, 2019 at 3:00 pm at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Pastor Gary Sheets will officiate. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Astoria Rescue Squad or the donor's choice. Interment will be in the Astoria Cemetery.

Sonja Elaine Beaty


Canton – Sonja Elaine Beaty (nee Taylor), of Haffner Boulevard, entered her Lord’s eternity at age 74, on Sunday, April 14, 2019 after many health challenges.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Jennings R. Beaty Jr., of over 52 years. Her survivors also include three children: Catherine Beaty Surowka (Griffin), of Richmond, Virginia: Christopher Raymond Beaty (Veronica), of Virginia Beach, Virginia: and Craig Hunter Beaty (Diana), of Canton, Illinois. She was blessed with seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Sonja is also survived by three brothers, William Wayne Taylor, of Virginia Beach, Virginia; James Robert Taylor Sr., of Rocky Mount, North Carolina; and Luther Ray Taylor Jr., of Hanover, Pennsylvania, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Our Memories of Sonja will forever supply peace, comfort, and expectation of seeing her again.
Sonja was a courageous person blessed with an inspiring sense of humor. She must have pleased God greatly as she always honored her mother and father; because of love and what God wanted of her Sonja was a faithful wife and mother. She cared deeply for her husband and children. Her love for her husband and his love for her is rarely equaled, and their love for each other was carried over to her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and her extended family. Always faithful and true through rough and smooth times; an example set for many. Andrew Gudzinskas


Elmwood – Andrew W. "Andy" Gudzinskas, 58, of Elmwood passed away at 8:53 AM, Sunday, April 14, 2019 at OSF Richard Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL. He was born on August 26, 1960 in Canton, IL to Walter and Jacqueline (McCabe) Gudzinskas. Andy married Tammie Tompkins on January 20, 2005 in Lewistown, IL. She survives along with two children: Shannen Gudzinskas of Canton and Jace Gudzinskas of Elmwood; sister Lori Ann (Bill) McCabe-Davison of Springfield, IL; brother Alan (Kim) Gudzinskas of Pekin, IL; family friend Mary Sloan of Princeville, IL; as well as several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents.
Andy was a hard-working, self-employed farmer and owner/operator of A. W. Gudzinskas Trucking. He was a member of the Mid-West Truckers Association, Inc. and a loyal fan of the Chicago Cubs.  He was devoted to his family, his work, and extended kindness to all who knew him.

David A. Hayes


Lewistown- David A. Hayes, 92, of Lewistown, passed away at 12:37 AM Sunday April 14, 2019 at Graham Hospital in Canton.

He was born April 25, 1926 at Jasonville, IN, the son of Earl B. and Louise (Bone) Hayes. He married Viola Edwards Griffith on January 15, 1965 at Elmwood. She died June 22, 1992. He later married Marianne Lester Nolan on December 11, 1993 at Lewistown. She survives with his step children, Terry (Carol) Griffith of rural Havana, Timothy (Margi) Griffith of Jackson, WY; and Thomas (Grace) Griffith of Mesa, AZ;  James Nolan of Lewistown, John Nolan of Canton, and Jill Lawver of Lewistown, 18 grandchildren, 24  great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two step children, three brothers, and two sisters.

Dave was a retired coal miner and a member of the United Mine Workers of America. He was a WW 2 Army veteran and recipient of a Purple Heart.  He was a long time active member of the Lewistown First Presbyterian Church, and was a volunteer for 25 years for the Lunch with Friends program at the church. He was also a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday at the Lewistown First Presbyterian Church where visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Pastor Penny Frame will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery with military rites accorded by Lewistown VFW Post 5001 and American Legion Bishop Post 1. William Modglin


Peoria – William Modglin, 73, passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2019, at Unity Point Proctor Hospital in Peoria.
He was born April 20, 1945 in Golconda, Illinois to Abraham and Fredonia (Brennen) Modglin.  They preceded him in death.
He married Nancy K. Miller on January 31, 1965 in Peoria.  She survives.
Also surviving are two children, Brent Modglin of Peoria, Tracy Modglin of Norris, five brothers, James, Bob, Rich, Scott and Doug Modglin and three sisters, Dianne Plants, Brenda White and Susie Gaal.
He was also preceded in death by one sister, Audrey Shaw.
He worked for Brewers Distributing in Peoria and was a member of the Teamsters Union Local #627 for 33 ½ years retiring in 1998.  He was a member of the Bartonville Baptist Church.
Per his wishes cremation rites have been accorded and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.  Please check our website for times and place later.

Amber G. Lercher


Farmington – Amber G. (Smith) Lercher, 102, of Farmington, passed away at 11:45 AM on Friday, April 12, 2019 at Farmington Country Manor. She was born on September 21, 1916 in Farmington to Leon and Carrie (Rodgers) Smith. She married Lt. George Donald “Don” Lercher on July 30, 1944 at home in Farmington. He preceded her in death on November 18, 2007.

Amber was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Clarence and Lloyd Smith.

Amber was secretary at Farmington Junior High School and Farmington High School for several years. She and her husband managed the Smith Jewelry Store until they sold. She continued to work for the new owner while being a part time caretaker for her blind brother, Clarence. Later she cared for her elderly mother and aunt until their deaths.

Amber was a member of Farmington First Presbyterian Church, Chapter AE, P.E.O. for over 50 years and Rebekah Lodge #155 for over 60 years, where she was also a pianist for several years. Amber volunteered at Farmington Country Manor for over 10 years.

Evelyn R. Butler

 
Canton – Evelyn Rosalie Butler, 98, of Canton, passed away at 4:10 AM on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at Graham Hospital. She was born on November 7, 1920 in Farmington to Lora and Laura (Nibbelin) Dalton. She married Delwyn L. “Dick” Butler on May 3, 1941 in Canton, MO, he preceded her in death on October 30, 2008.

Evelyn was also preceded in death by her parents.

Surviving is one son, Roger “Mike” Butler of Canton; four grandchildren, Brad (Traci) Butler, Shelly (Todd) Rhinehart, Heather Emery, and Emily (Keith) Nyman; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Ralph Dalton of Peoria; and one sister, Carol McCoy of Canton, IL.

Evelyn worked as a teacher in the London Mills, Farmington, and Canton area for 35 years, where she retired in 1979. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Canton.

Norma Maxine Deakin


Canton – Norma Maxine Deakin, 87, of Canton, went to be with her loving daughter, husband, and family at 4:34 AM on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at Renaissance Care Center. She was born on December 6, 1931 in Harris Township, IL to Mose and Hazel Fern (Calhoun) Burrows. She married Lloyd Gerald “Jerry” Deakin, he preceded her in death in 2003.

Norma was also preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Connie Joe Deakin, one brother, Charles Burrows, and one sister, Betty Eggers.

Surviving are two nieces, Karen Jones and Rhonda Starcevich, and one nephew, Chuck Burrows.

Norma loved people and people loved her, she truly had a heart of gold. She also loved archery and animals.

Laurence Bloyd


Lewistown – Laurence “Pat” Bloyd, 91, of Lewistown, passed away at 8:22 AM on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at Sunset Rehab & Health Care. He was born on September 29, 1927 in Lewistown to Richard and Anna (O’Donnell) Bloyd. He married Martha Dell Atwater on September 9, 1949 in Ipava, IL, she preceded him in death on April 10, 1963. He later married Georgia Eveland, she survives.

Also surviving are three children, Debby (Carl) Powell of Lewistown, Margy (Rick) Sedgwick-Renner of Canton, and Kevin (Shelley) Bloyd of Canton; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Pat was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, two brothers, and one sister.

Pat graduated from Lewistown Community High School on May 29, 1945. He worked at Illinois Power of Havana for over 40 years and also worked as a self-employed mason. He was a member of the Lewistown VFW. Pat was an avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener, and loved to till his garden just like his father. Pat enjoyed bowling and horseshoes. He truly loved morning coffee with his sister, Maralee. Pat cherished his time with his precious wife, Martha Dell, mother of their three children, she called him home on the anniversary of her death, 56 years to the day.

Pat served in the Army with the 1st Cavalry Division at Tokyo, Japan, where he received a Victory Medal and was discharged on March 31, 1947 and later served as a Sergeant 1st Class in the United States National Guard.

Services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, IL, where a visitation will be held from 9-11 AM. Jeff Stanley


Canton – Jeff Stanley, 58, of Canton, passed away Monday, April 8, 2019 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
He was born on October 5, 1960 to Elmer and Iona (Fahey) Stanley.
Surviving are two children, Vince (Ericia) Stanley, of Winter Garden Florida, Jorden (Kaylee) Stanley, of Canton, one grandson Rhett Stanley, the mother of his children, Holly Ray, one brother Tom Stanley, two sisters Valerie Stanley, and Vickie Sepich, one aunt, Betty Barnes and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew.
Jeff worked at Graham Hospital, he was a member of the First Baptist Church in Canton where he was a devoted leader of the food pantry, he was a member of the fisherman’s club, he enjoyed helping people and mowing but most of all he loved spending time with his friends, family and his grandson Rhett.
A funeral will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton at 10:00 a.m., visitation will be held at the funeral home the night before, Friday, April 12, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Burial will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Canton.
A Funeral Luncheon will be held following the service at the First Baptist Church in Canton.
The Reverend Monroe Bailey will officiate the funeral service.

Kurt Skender


Canton – Kurt Skender, 69, of Canton, passed away on Monday, April 8, 2019 at his home in Canton.
He was born on May 12, 1949, in Canton, to Billie and Diantha (Whitehead) Skender. They preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Tina (Flint) Skender, who he married on October 11, 2008.
Also surviving are five children Randi Skender - Bump, Derek (Terri) Skender, Alex (Leah) Skender Mitch Delozier and Be Delozier, five grandchildren, Brian Bump, Eric Bump and Alyssa Bump. Richard “Richie” Skender and Victoria “Tori” Skender, and three great grandchildren.
Kurt was a Canton Senior High Class of 67 Alumni, he retired from Caterpillar where he worked as a toolmaker. He was a member of the Canton Masonic Lodge, he owned and operated Little Giants Computer repair. Kurt enjoyed golfing, and hunting he was also an avid Chicago Cubs Fan.
A funeral will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at 12 Noon at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, where visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. A Masonic service will be held prior to the Funeral service

Jon Ramey


Lewistown- Jon Ramey, 59, of Lewistown passed away at 2:10 PM Monday April 8, 2019 at OSF Health Care in Peoria.

He was born November 4, 1959 at Terre Haute, IN; the son of Donald R. Ramey and Betty (Graves) Ramey-Keene. He was preceded in death by his father, and three brothers. Surviving are his mother Betty Keene of Lewistown, one daughter, Shona Ramey of Lewistown, two grandsons, Bryan Nelson Jr. and Oaklee Ramey both of Lewistown, one brother, Nelson Ramey of Marietta, GA; three sisters, Donna (Jack) Stutsman of Lewistown, Marsha Gazelle of rural Canton and Cindy McGhee of Georgetown, a sister-in-law Lissi Ramey of Lewistown, several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Jon was a heavy equipment operator for Local 649 for the last 12 years. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, being outdoors, spending time with his friends and living life to the fullest.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday April 13th at Cottonwood Cemetery near Hanna City with Larry Wright officiating. Robert C. Bowman, Sr.


Robert Carl Bowman, Sr., age 76 of Bardolph, IL, passed away at 12:34 pm Friday, April 5, 2019 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL. He was born on July 1, 1942 in Vermont, IL, the son of Thomas Jefferson and Flora Margaret (Lawson) Bowman. He married Kathy Irving in Oklahoma. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Ronda (and Paul) Northrup of Bushnell, IL and Rita (and Wallace) Jones of Prairie City, IL, one son Robert C. (and Janene) Bowman, Jr. of Prairie City, IL, seven grandchildren; Janell (and Brad) Mudd, Ashley (and Mike) Thompson, Paul Christopher (and Samantha) Howell, Jessica (and Richard) Mitchell, Jennifer Bowman, Robert (and Bree) Bowman III, and Noah Bowman, ten great-grandchildren; Dawn Thompson, Michael Thompson, Jr., Bradley Mudd, Jr., Makala Howell, Oliver Eugene Howell, Braden Russell, Aleah Sargent, Aubry Sargent, Ivey Percy, and Baker Bowman, and one brother Donald (and Charlotte) Bowman of Bone Gap, IL.

Robert was preceded in death by three brothers, Gene, Max, and Bill Bowman, five sisters; Marjorie Stambaugh, Elma Royer, Ruby Hickle, Mary Tarboletti, and LuAnn Schisler, and three half-brothers, Lloyd, Floyd, and Boyd Bowman.

He served in the United States Army.

Robert worked at the Vermont Foundry for over 19 years. He then worked at Excel in Beardstown, IL and for Norforge in Bushnell.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping.

Joey A. Gossage


Joey Andrew Gossage, age 37 of Colchester, IL, passed away at 6:50 am on Sunday, April 7, 2019 at his home. He was born on June 26, 1981 in Springfield, IL, the son of Joseph and Bonnie J. (Bowen) Gossage. Joey married Amy Strange on March 15, 2003 in Macomb, Illinois. She survives.

After six miscarriages, Joey and Amy were blessed with a son, Eli Joe Lee Gossage.

Along with Amy and his son Eli, Joey is survived by his sister Sarah (and Paul) Otto of Aurora, Colorado, four brothers-in-law, four sisters-in-law, six nephews, four nieces, his step-dad Harold Vore of Eldon, Missouri, and his father and mother-in-law Dan and Jan Strange of Macomb, Illinois.

Joey was preceded in death by his parents.

He grew up in Vermont, Illinois and graduated from VIT High School in May of 2000. As an adult, Joey moved to Macomb. He attended the Maple Avenue Christian Church in Macomb. He enjoyed being with his wife and son and hanging out with friends and family.

A memorial service will take place on Monday, April 15, 2019 at 11:00 am at the Maple Avenue Christian Church in Macomb. Pastor Donnie Case will officiate. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Ridgeville Cemetery, Browning, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Joey Gossage Memorial Fund.

Canton - Kay Hogue, 77, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at Graham Hospital Emergency room.
She was born on August 26, 1941 in Elmwood to Milo and Vera (Oldfield) Harkness. They preceded her in death.
Surviving are her children, Penny (Robert) Althiser of Elmwood, Shelly (Jim) Cornwell of Creve Coeur, Robert (Sara) Hogue of Maquon, two brothers, Dick
Harkness of Canton, Ronald Harkness of London Mills, eight grandchildren, Brad, Katie, Robert, Hannah, Raymond, Aaron, Olivia and Abby and sixteen Great grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death is one sister, Betty Wheeler.
Kay worked for ALCOA in Princeville. She was a member of White Chapel United Methodist Church and enjoyed crocheting and keeping track of the family history.
Cremation rites have been accorded per her wishes and a graveside burial of the ashes will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at the Elmwood Township Cemetery at 11am. A celebration of her life will follow at the 1st Presbyterian Church in Elmwood.

Jean Scott


Lewistown- Jean Scott, 96, of Lewistown, passed away at 12:08 PM Saturday April 6, 2019 at Red Oak Estates in Canton.
 
She was born August 26, 1922 at Lewistown, the daughter of George N. and Jennie I. (Quigley) Breckenridge. She married Dr. Will E. Scott Jr. He preceded her in death along with her parents, two brothers, and two sisters. Surviving is one daughter, Sara Shupe of Longmont, CO; four grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
 
Jean was a graduate of Marion College in Indiana where she studied pre medicine. She was a past president of the Women’s Medical Association Auxiliary in Texas. She enjoyed traveling and had a great interest in Biblical Archeology.
 
Services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown, with Pastor Brant Reed officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Jean Moore


Canton –Jean Moore, 92, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at Farmington Country Manor.
She was born on January 13, 1927 in Fairview to Chester and Stella (Oldfield) Dainty.  They preceded her in death.
She married Melvin Moore on June 29, 1946 in Lewistown.  He preceded her in death on October 18, 1995.
Surviving are six children, Terry (Doris) Moore of Bowling Green, FL, Charles Moore of Harker Heights, TX, Melvin (Glenda) Moore of Knoxville, IL, Robert (Judy) Moore of Canton, Melinda (Ross) Melhouse of Glasford, Thomas (Diane) Moore of Wentzville, MO, one brother, David Dainty of Havana, fifteen grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren and fourteen great great grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death are four brothers, Jim, George, Dean and Larry Dainty.
Jean graduated from Lewistown High School in 1944.  She worked for Hiram Walkers in Peoria during WWII and later working and retiring from Canton Manufacturing Clothing Factory.
She attended Canton First Church of the Nazarene.  She enjoyed bingo and many activities at the Farmington Country Manor.  Most of all Jean enjoyed being with family and friends.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, April 7, 2019 from 1-3 pm at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home, 1601 E. Chestnut St., in Canton.  A funeral service will be on Monday April 8, 2019 at 11am at the funeral home.
Burial will be held at Highbridge Cemetery in Dunfermline with a funeral Luncheon to follow at the First Church of the Nazarene.

Jane Mahan


Canton – Jane Mahan, 83, of Canton, passed away at 10:25 AM on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at Graham Hospital E.R. She was born on April 2, 1936 in Canton to Guy and Thelma (Byrum) Kipling. She married Paul Mahan on December 9, 1955 in East St. Louis, IL, he preceded her in death.

Jane was also preceded in death by her parents.

Surviving are two children, Paula (Jim) Arrenholz of Canton and William “Guy” Mahan of Bar Harbor, ME; four grandchildren, Elisabeth Arrenholz, Abbey Mahan, J.P. Arrenholz, and Owen Mahan; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Bill Kipling of Rockford, IL.

Jane worked as a switchboard operator and receptionist in the medical field. She was a member of the Canton American Legion Post 16 and a beloved member of the American Grill Wednesday night band family. Jane was a NASCAR enthusiast and loved live music.

Ethel Mosher

Cuba – Ethel Mosher, 72, of Cuba, passed away at 9:10 AM on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at her residence. She was born on January 3, 1947 in Canton to Robert and Melba (Hukill) Markley. She married Russell “Pete” Mosher on March 24, 1978, he survives.

Also surviving is her mother, Melba; two children, Teresa Mosher of Des Moines, IA and Allen Mosher of Kansas City, MO; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, James Markley of Cuba; and five sisters, Pam Hedden of Ellisville, Sharon Trone of Canton, Roberta Sarff of Havana, Branda Suydan of Smithfield, and Judith English of Cuba.

Ethel was preceded in death by her father and two brothers, Dan and John Markley.

Ethel retired from Caterpillar. She was a member of the Cuba American Legion Post 533 Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary.

Wilma Clayberg


Cuba- Wilma Louise (Landis) Clayberg, 96, of Cuba, passed away at 11:10 PM Tuesday April 2, 2019 at Red Oak Estates in Canton.

She was born April 9, 1922 at Cuba, the daughter of John C. and Berneice (Murphy) Landis. She married Marion Clayberg on July 22, 1940 at Davenport, IA. He preceded her in death on April 22, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and one daughter, Zolene Taylor. Survivors include one son, Steven (Lynn) Clayberg of Cuba, two grandsons, Mark Runyan of Denver, CO; and James (Tari) Runyan of Rushville, four great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren.

Wilma was a homemaker and had also volunteered at the Cuba Library for many years. She was a member of the Cuba United Methodist Church, the SLT card club, and the Cuba United Methodist Church quilting group.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba, where visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Reverend Ardith Corsaw will officiate and burial will be in Cuba Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to any charity of the donor’s choice. Condolences may be made at henrylange.com

Warren Utsinger Sr.


Canton – Warren L. Utsinger Sr., 77, passed away on March 28, 2019, at his residence in rural Canton.

He was born on November 11, 1941 in Canton to Leo and Inez (Elliott) Utsinger.  They preceded him in death.

He married Peggy (Steck) on February 24, 1962 in Canton.  She survives.

Also surviving are three children Warren Utsinger Jr, Ron (Kathy) Utsinger, Terry (Laura) Utsinger, all of Ellisville, four grandchildren, Courtney, Wesley, Chris and Brooke, one great granddaughter, Ozlynn, several nieces and nephews and his faithful dog, Rocky.

Warren was a self-employed farmer throughout his entire life.  He was a member of the Wiley Lutheran Church, Masonic Lodge for 47 years a Boy Scout leader for 10 years.  Most of all he was a loving husband, father and grandfather.  He prided himself in never missing the grandkids events.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 31, 2019 at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory in Canton from 1-3pm with a Masonic service at 3pm.  A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 1, 2019 at 11:00 am, at the funeral home.

Burial will be held at Wiley Cemetery

Memorials may be to the Fairview Fire Department.
