Jeff Malmgren

Jeff Malmgren was born on July 14, 1955, in Canton, Illinois, to Evelyn Behm (Vaughn) and Earl Malmgren. He grew up in Canton, surrounded by his large Vaughn family and the Malmgren family farm, where he spent his childhood enjoying the outdoors and building strong family ties.

In 1976, Jeff began an impressive military career in Military Intelligence. His service took him around the world, and his time at the Defense Language Institute gave him the unique opportunity to master seven languages. After more than three decades of dedicated service, he retired from the military in 2008 as a Chief Warrant Officer 5, leaving behind a legacy of global experiences and accomplishments. He spent much of his life being involved with various VFWs, American Legions, and the Elks Lodge.

Jeff had a deep love for the simple pleasures in life: fishing, a perfectly grilled steak, indulging his sweet tooth, and witnessing epic sunsets. He also loved baseball and his beloved St. Louis Cardinals, and enjoyed bowling with his friends in the retirees bowling league. His ability to connect with anyone—no matter their rank or status—made him a beloved friend to many. Whether sharing stories over a beer or 14, or demonstrating his mastery of bar and card games, Jeff’s charm and wit left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

More than anything, Jeff loved his family and taught his children that they could achieve anything they set their minds to. His cleverness, humor, and kind personality will be deeply missed.

Jeff is survived by his three children, Kristina (Eric), Melissa, and Amanda; his two grandchildren, Clark and Grace Boedy, sisters, Margaret Kay Bull (Richie) and Susan Tisdale (Gene); his fiancée, Deb Johnson; and a large extended family, including numerous nieces and nephews.

Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 PM- 5:00 PM on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at the Canton American Legion in Canton, IL
