Consuelo M. Rowan

Canton - Consuelo M. Rowan, 83, of Canton, passed away at 10:05 AM on Thursday, October 29, 2015 at Courtyard Estates. She was born on May 15, 1932 to Maurice and Louise (Paggio) Valls. She married John Rowan, he preceded her in death.

Surviving are two step-sons, Steven Rowan of Canton, and Bruce (Diane) Rowan of Canton.

Consuelo worked as an Economist at Citi Bank and was a proud member of Phi Beta Kappa.

Mary E. Morrell, 84, of Lewistown, passed away at 4:22 AM on Friday, October 29, 2015 at Graham Hospital. She was born August 21, 1931 to Lessley and Bertha (Belville) Fawcett. She married Richard “Dick” Morrell, he precedes her in death.

Mary worked as a Private Nurse and was a practicing member of the Jehovah Witness.

Hilda I. Shaw


Hilda I. Shaw, 89, of Trivoli, IL passed away at 3:25 PM on Monday, October 26, 2015 at Farmington Country Manor in Farmington, IL. She was born on February 2, 1926 to Benjamin and Nellie (Johnson) Pollitt. She married Richard Shaw on February 24, 1951, he preceded her in death.

Surviving are two children, Shaaron Metzger of Trivoli and Randy (Deborah) Gallinger of Trivoli; three grandchildren, Renee (Jason) McClain, Angela (Gannon) Shinall, and Richard (Ann) Gallinger; one great-grandchild, Reese McClain.

Preceding her in death is one son, Gregory Gallinger; five brothers; eight sisters; and her parents.

Hilda worked as an Office Manager at Associated Anesthesiologists in Peoria, IL, she was a member of the Trivoli United Methodist Church, the Peoria County Home Extension, and belonged to several area Quilting Organizations.

Services will be at 12 PM noon on Friday, October 30, 2015 at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home in Canton, IL where a visitation will be from 10-12 PM. Pastor Bob DeBolt will be officiating. Mike Boone


Canton- Mike Boone, 71, of Canton passed away at 6:45 AM Friday October 23, 2015, at his home.

He was born July 25, 1944, in Canton, the son of Charles and Mary Anna (Swanson) Boone. He married Connie Berry on December 3, 1971, in Lewistown. She survives along with one son, Elton (Shannon) Boone of Columbia, MO, and two grandchildren, Ethan Boone and Emerson Boone of Columbia, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant sister.

Mike retired in 1999 from Caterpillar as a Senior Design Engineer with 35 years of service. He served his country in the US Marine Reserves. Mike was a member of the Canton American Legion, where he was a past commander and a Legion baseball representative. He was a co-founder
and past president of Fulton County ABATE and a member of 40 & 8. He enjoyed farming, history, motorcycles, fishing, hunting, mushrooming, and anything outdoors. Mike was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren.

Cremation will be accorded. A celebration of life will be held at 6:00 PM Wednesday October 28th at the Canton American Legion. Memorial contributions may be made to the Canton American Legion Baseball or the Fulton County Humane Society. Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown is assisting the family with arrangements. Canton – Soo B. Lee, 76, of Canton, died at 2:05 p.m. Saturday, October 24, 2015 at Sunset Manor in Canton.
He was born in South Korea on July 23, 1939.
He married Sung Ok Lee, she preceded him in death in 1994.
Surviving is one son Yoon Lee of Chicago, and three grandchildren.
He was a self-employed property manager and was a member of the Poet’s Society.
A graveside service will be held at Noon on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at Irving Park Cemetery in Chicago.

Ray Anderson

Canton – Ray A. Anderson, 74, of Canton, died at 10:26 a.m. Thursday October 22, 2015 at Unity Point Methodist in Peoria.
He was born on October 24, 1940 in Canton to Eldon and Juanita (Smith) Anderson.
He first married Trudy Knowles, he later married Ellen Dunham in Lewistown on October 21, 1981. She survives.
Other survivors include three children Kathy Livingston of North Carolina, Merlin Anderson of Canton, and Sheila Anderson of Canton, six step-children, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and one sister Barb Ellison of Cocoa, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Santa Jo Tracy.
Ray had worked at International Harvester in Canton and McLean Fogg in Havana. He was also a Pekin Auxiliary Police Officer.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Per his wishes, there will be no service.

Canton – Leota D. Clark, 95, of Canton, passed away at 3:15 p.m. Friday, October 23, 2015 at Red Oak Estates in Canton.
She was born on the family farm near Plymouth, IL to Charles Clifford and Mary Inez (Wolfe) Hamm.
She first married George C. Siemers at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa on February 15, 1941, he preceded her in death on January 1, 1968. She then married Elmer Clark in Colchester on September 3, 1975. He preceded her in death on January 22, 1991.
Surviving are four children Charles Siemers of Manhattan Beach, CA, Mary (Don) Bartholme of Romeoville, IL, Roger (Carolyn) Siemers of Greenview, CA, and Richard Siemers of Champaign, IL seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildern, beloved sister-in-law Pauline Hamm of Plymouth, IL nephews Lee (Don) Hamm and Steve (Linda) Hamm, three great nieces and nephews, and one great-great niece.
She was preceded in death by her brother Charles Hamm.
Leota worked as an executive secretary for DeHater Paper Co. in Peoria. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Canton.

Bob Carpentier


Dunfermline – Harold R. “Bob” Carpentier, 76, of Dunfermline died at 4:25 a.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2015, at Sunset Manor.
He was born October 20, 1939, in Peoria to Harold M. and Mildred (Miller) Carpentier.  He married Elizabeth B. “Betty” Berry on January 28, 1959, in Peoria.  She survives.
Also surviving are six children, Vickie (Kevin) Abernathy of Vermont, Bryan (Kim) Carpentier of Farmington, Craig (Kathy Promen) Carpentier of Canton, Brad Carpentier of Castle Rock, WA, Harold “Rob” Carpentier Jr. of Phoenix, AZ, and Mark (Vicki) Carpentier of Canton; two brothers, William E. (Dorothy) Carpentier of AL and Tom Carpentier of Canton; one sister, June Carpentier of Pekin; eleven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandchild, Caleb Carpentier; and seven siblings.
Bob received his engineering degree from Bradley University and worked as an electrical engineer for Caterpillar until his retirement in 2001.  He was a HAM radio enthusiast, enjoyed baseball and basketball and time spent hunting and fishing.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 26, 2015, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton with Rev. Monroe Bailey officiating.  Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.  Burials will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Canton.
Memorials may be made to the Fulton County Humane Society or to the First Baptist Church Food Pantry.

Cuba – Nancy C. Martin, 71, of Cuba, passed away on Monday, October 19, 2015, at the OSF St. Francis Hospital in Peoria.
She was born on March 13, 1944 in Canton to Ross and Fern (Sinnett) Martin.  They preceded her in death.
Surviving is her son John (Dawn Henderson) Martin of Cuba, one brother Kenneth (Renea Mae) Martin of Farmington, two grandchildren, Heaven (Christopher Henderson Sr.) Martin, Christion Martin, great grandchildren, Allison Henderson, Jake Henderson, Christopher Henderson Jr. and Carson Henderson.
Also preceding her in death is her grandson, Martiee Martin.
Nancy worked for Dana Victor in Havana and worked in the Home Health Care field.  She enjoyed crafts but most of all enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Cremation rites have been accorded and a burial of the ashes will be at the Wiley Cemetery.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, October 23, 2015, at, 4 pm, at the Cuba Community Center.

Harold L. Bleichner


Yates City – Harold L. Bleichner, 89, of Yates City died at 6:07 p.m. on Sunday, October 18, 2015, at Farmington Country Manor.
He was born September 14, 1926, in Oak Hill to Carl and Mamie (Rupp) Bleichner.  He married Mardell F. Wagner on September 21, 1951.  She preceded him in death on April 19, 2004.
He is survived by three children, Douglas (Jere) Bleichner of Yates City, Cynthia (Gary) Bernahl of Farmington, and Sandra (Gary) Williams of Mapleton; one sister, Alice Johnson; seven grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Robert, Cliff, Glen, and Merle; and one sister, Ruth Smith.
Harold was a veteran of the United States Army.  He worked as a meter reader and in maintenance at Peoria Water Company, retiring in 1988.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 21, 2015, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Elmwood, where visitation will be held one hour prior to services.  Rev. Dennis Fitzgerald will officiate.  Burial, with military honors, will be held at Yates City Cemetery.

Clifford L. Postin


Clifford L. Postin, 89, of Canton passed away at 3:55 PM Friday, October 16, 2015 at Heartland Health Care Center in Canton.  He was born of June 24, 1926 in Canton to William and Pauline (Garnsey) Postin Sr. Clifford married Evelyn Reed on April 9, 1950 in Canton. She preceded him in death on January 6, 1998.  Also preceding him in death were his parents, a son Gerald L. Postin, and a sister.

Surviving is a daughter Dianna (Marion) Harper of Canton, 6 grandchildren; Tim (Janelle) Postin, Teresa McGinnis (Craig Newby), Tammy (Brad) DeVries, Tonya (Jim) McPhail, April (Jason) Fleisher, and Anna (Josh) Bundy, 9 great grandchildren, a brother William Postin Jr. of Canton, and a sister Elizabeth L. Jenkins of Canton.

Clifford retired from International Harvester Company in 1974 where he served as group leader in parts. He was a member of the UAW, a lifetime member of the Canton American Legion, a Cubs fan, a hunter and loved fishing, gardening, and being with grandkids and great grandkids.  Clifford was a WW 2 veteran serving in the Pacific with the Army as a truck driver.

Services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home in Canton where visitation will be 6-8 PM Tuesday.  The Rev. Fairview Heights – Oma M. Mayall, 91, of Fairview Heights, died at 2:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at Four Fountains Health Care Center in Belleville.
She was born on July 25, 1924 in McClare, IL to John and Adele (Mason) Workman.
She married Dick H. Mayall on December 20, 1941 in St. Louis, MO. He preceded her in death on December 29, 2001.
Surviving are three children Dick E. (Joyce) Mayall of Wataga, Sandra (Jerry) Eddy of Canton and Peggy Mayall of Belleville, six grandchildren Marcy (Terry) Rife of Canton, Kelly (Ed) Stanfield of Rochester, Jen (John) Boyd of Parma, OH, Lori (Ken) Fine of Jacksonville, FL, Gregory (Amy) Eddy of Farmington, and Josh Sanders of Belleville, eleven great-grandchildren, Jason, Beth, Jordan, Jacob, Tyler, Allison, Will, Emily, Anthony, Aaron, and Brennan, and three great great-grandchildren McKayla, McKensie, and John Jr..
Several siblings also preceded her in death.
Oma was a homemaker and had worked in the dietary department of Graham Hospital in Canton for several years. She was of the Methodist Faith and was an avid Cardinals fan.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday October 24, 2015 at White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton. There will be no visitation.

Thomas Joel “Tommy Jo” Courtney, 60, of Breeds passed away at 10:00 AM Thursday, October 15, 2015 at his residence. He was born on August 28, 1955 to Lester and Alma (Lingenfelter) Courtney.

Surviving are two children, Erin (Tony) Wuebbling of Canton and Aubrey Courtney of Canton; three grandchildren, Hannah, Emma, and Sean Wuebbling; several nieces and nephews; three brothers, Robert (Carla) Courtney, David (Pam) Courtney, and Virgil Courtney; two sisters, Susie (Larry) VanMiddlesworth and Laura Clendenny; and his father Lester Courtney.

Preceding him in death is his mother, and one brother Leslie Courtney.

Tommy Jo worked at caterpillar where he retired in 2008. He was a loving Father, Son, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, and Friend.

Kelsey enjoyed drawing and writing.  Most of all she had a loving and caring heart.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 17, 2015, from 1-3 pm, at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton.  There will be no funeral service.  Cremation rites have been accorded.

Kimberly A. Toothaker


Kimberly A. Toothaker, 55, of Farmington passed away at 11:51 AM Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at her residence. She was born on June 29, 1960 in Blue Island, IL to Joseph and Marie (McCabe) Lidy. Kimberly married John Toothaker on September 29, 1984 in Elkhart, IN, he survives.

Also surviving are six children, Erin Toothaker of Denver, CO, James Toothaker of Cedar Rapids, IA, Amy, Nicholas, Mary Rose, and Margaret Toothaker of Farmington, IL; two brothers, Joseph and Steven Lidy of Elkhart, IN; one sister, Marie Kidder of Elkhart, IN; and her mother Marie Lidy of Elkhart, IN.

Preceding her in death is her father, Joseph Lidy and one daughter Colleen Toothaker.

Kimberly was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Canton.

Services will be at 11:00 AM Monday, October 19, 2015 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Canton, IL, where visitation will be from 9-11 AM at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home in Canton. Milola M. Fleming


Canton- Milola M. Fleming, 91, of Canton, passed away at 6:25 AM Wednesday October 14, 2015 in the arms of her granddaughter at Renaissance Care Center.

She was born June 4, 1924 at Lady Smith, WI; the daughter of Alfred “Loui” and Gatha (Biddle) Laflex. She married Jimmie Lee Lightle Sr. and he preceded her in death on May 11, 1983. She later married Richard “Red” Fleming and he preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and one son, Jimmie Lee Lightle Jr. Survivors include one son, Charles “Chuck” (Katlyn) Lightle of Chattanooga, TN; one daughter, Gatha “Janie” (Aaron Stockman) Boggs of Canton, 13 grandchildren, Tony (Stacey) Newton, Laura Thomas-Spahn, Joey (Ronda) Boggs, Phillip Lightle, Angie Beckett, Jennifer Lightle, Tina Wade, Tim Crouse, Amy Lightle, Otis Lightle, Jack Lightle, Jason Lightle, and Justin Lightle, several great grandchildren, and several great great grandchildren.

Milola had worked as a nurse’s aid at Graham Hospital. She loved knitting, crocheting, and collecting owls. She also enjoyed traveling and camping.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba, where visitation will be held one hour prior. Burial will be in Baughman Cemetery at rural Smithfield. Alvira Hagen, 104, of Canton passed away at 1:30 PM Tuesday October 13, 2015 at Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Canton.  She was born on August 5, 1911 in Canton to Ralph B. and Alma A. (Kastner) Johnson.  Alvira married Charles B. Hagen on May 4, 1930 in Missouri.  He preceded her in death on September 8, 1988.  Also preceding her were her parents, 2 brothers; Bruce and Dean Johnson, and a sister Frances M. Lacy.  Surviving is a son Karl L. Hagen of Canton, 3 grandsons: Tony, David, and Chris, 6 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Alvira was a member of Shield’s Chapel United Methodist Church and the Rebecca’s.

Dane E. Dilts

Farmington – Dane E. Dilts, 90, of Farmington, passed away at 10:10 PM October 11th, 2015 at Heartland Healthcare Center in Canton. He was born on February 17th, 1925 in Fiatt, Illinois to Wesley and Ollivine (Rock) Dilts. He married Barbara J Blagden on July 31st, 1949 in Canton, she preceded him in death.

Surviving are three children, D. Alan and (Linda) Dilts of Canton, Brad and (Shirley) Dilts of Farmington, and Martha and (Dale) Vahlkamp of Gillette, Wyoming, six grandchildren; Amy, Jayme, Brandon, Alisha, Danae, and Beth,  six great-grandchildren;  Landon, Leah, Ryleigh, Keighley, Drew, and Josie, one brother Raymond (June) Dilts of Seville, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

Dane worked as an engineer at the Caterpillar Tractor Company for 35 Years. He was an alderman in Farmington, as well as a zoning officer. Dane was a member of the Farmington  American Legion , VFW in Canton; he was the past District Commander of Legion, past Commander of Fulton County, Scout Master Troop #79, a veteran of the Navy, serving during the WWII and Korean Conflict.

Services will be at 11:00 am on Friday, October 16th, 2015 Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home in Canton, where the visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 PM. Rev. Tim Bauler will officiate. Marjorie J. Deakin


Cuba- Marjorie J. Deakin, 93, of Cuba passed away at 7:20 AM Monday October 12, 2015 at Clayberg Fulton County Nursing Center surrounded by her loving family.

She was born June 26, 1922 at Bernadotte Township the daughter of William and Loreine (McCaughey) Hamm. She married Alan L. Deakin on August 14, 1941 at Bowling Green, MO. He died December 23, 1994. She was also preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and three sisters, and one step grandson. Surviving are three children, Reita (David) Harn of Lewistown, Garrett (Kathy) Deakin of Springfield, and Greg (Debora) Deakin of Cuba, six grandchildren, Amy Deakin, Emily Harmony, Kristina Hurley, Rachel Lyons, Tiffany Deakin, and Colin Deakin, seven step grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.

Marjorie was a homemaker. She was a sixty year member of the Cuba United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for fifty years. Other memberships include Order of Eastern Star, Jobs Daughters, Cuba Senior Women’s Club, Royal Neighbors, and the Friendly Neighbors Club. Marjorie was also a former 4-H Leader and served on the board of directors for the Community Concert Association. She enjoyed playing cards and playing the piano by ear.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday October 15th at the Cuba United Methodist Church with Reverend Kenneth Harris officiating. Burial will be at Cuba Cemetery. Visitation will be held two hours prior to services at the church. Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba is assisting the family with arrangements. Dixie “Pat” Stell

 
Dixie “Pat” Stell, 79, of Saint David, passed away at 8:25 PM on October 10, 2015 at her residence. She was born December 7, 1935 to Tom and Margret (Lidwell) Sawyer. She married John Stell on October 24, 1954 in Canton, IL. He survives.
 
Also surviving are three children, Nancy (Lee) Hackett of Bryant, IL, Brenda Stell of Saint David, IL, and David (Debbie) Stell of Lewiston, IL; three grandchildren, Beth Wallace, Karissa Stell, and Nate Stell; two great-grand children, Kaycee Roberts and Jacob Roberts; two brothers, John (Marge) Sawyer of Urbana, OH, and Jerry (Laurlyn) Sawyer of Canton, IL; and one sister Nancy (Scotty) Anderson of Saint David, IL.
 
Preceding her in death were her parents; and grandson Joshua Hackett.
 
Dixie was a housewife and a member of Saint David Optimists and also a PTA member.

Mike Drainer


Canton – Michael E. “Mike” Drainer, 64, of Canton, passed away peacefully at 7:45 a.m. Thursday, October 8, 2015 at his residence.
He was born on November 5, 1950 in Carrollton, IL to Eugene P. and Joyce (Axley) Drainer.
He married Janica “Tootie” Wagner in Delavan on August 22, 1970. She survives.
Other survivors include two children Michelle (Tom) Murphy of Canton and Christopher Drainer of Canton, three grandchildren Grant, Blake and Liam Murphy, one brother Daniel R. Drainer of Jerseyville, brothers-in-law Louis (Linda) Wagner of Easton and Roy (Karen) Wagner of Mason City, and several nieces and nephews.
Mike had worked for IHC in Canton, until it’s closing, then became an independent truck driver. He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed restoring tractors. He never met a stranger and possessed a deep love for his grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 12 at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, where visitation will be held 3-6 p.m. on Sunday.
Burial will be at Shield’s Chapel Cemetery in rural Canton.

Wendyl Lingenfelter


Norris – Wendyl C. Lingenfelter, 86, of Norris, passed away at 4:25 p.m. Friday, October 9, 2015 at Heartland Health Care in Canton.
He was born in Canton on September 24, 1929 to James and Garnet (Cadwalder) Lingenfelter.
He married Wanda Williams on September 14, 1952 in Edwards, IL. She survives.
Other survivors include four children Randy (Karen) Lingenfelter of Washington, Lyndel (Roxana) Lingenfelter of Canton, Bryan Lingenfelter of Hollister, MO, and Cheryl King of Longmont, CO, seven grandchildren Shawn, Sherry, James, Robert, Jeffrey, Wilson, and Nolan, ten great-grandchildren, and one brother James (Genevieve) Lingenfelter of Canton.
He was preceded in death by two sisters Druscilla Sprague and Treva Allen.
Wendyl retired from International Harvester Co.  in 1984. He was a member of the Norris United Methodist Church. One of his passions, was gardening. Wendyl served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday October 15 at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, where visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday. Rev. Randy Lingenfelter will officiate.
Burial will be at White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton.

Betty Windsor

Canton – Betty Evelyn Windsor, 86, of Canton died at 5:40 a.m. on Sunday, October 11, 2015, at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.
She was born June 1, 1929, in Edina, MO to Buster and Sarah (Parrish) Shubert.  She married Lester Riley on July 14, 1944.  He preceded her in death on May 30, 1980.  She later married Albert Windsor.  He died May 28, 1981.
She is survived by three children, Roger (Linda) Riley of Canton, Edward (Charlotte) Riley of Wee-Ma-Tuk, and John (Suzanne) Riley of Bartonville; five grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one step-great-grandchild, and one step-great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Betty lived the last 46 years in the Yakima, Washington area, moving back to Illinois earlier this year.  While living in Washington, Betty was a business owner and caregiver.  She enjoyed camping, fishing, and going to yard sales.
Cremation rites have been accorded.  Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2015, at Shield’s Chapel Cemetery in rural Canton.

Shirley Jean Mulligan


Shirley Jean Mulligan, 87, of Canton passed away at 2:50 PM Friday, October 9, 2015 at Graham Hospital. She was born May 15, 1928 to Guy and Edith “Pearl” (Rakestraw) Haughawout. She married George “Fred” Mulligan on November 25, 1945 in Canton, IL. He survives.

Also surviving are six children, Kathy (Doug) Nafziger of Lake Camelot, IL, Stephen Mulligan of Granby, CO, Shauna Mulligan of Canton, IL, Patrick (Margaret) Mulligan of Newburyport, MA, Sean (Bonita) Mulligan of Carmi, IL, and Erin (Ed) Welcome of Granby, Co; thirteen grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death are her parents; four sisters, Lenora Bush, Virginia Sepich, Betty Davis and Marie Scalf; and one brother Lyle Haughawout.

Shirley worked as a R.N. at Graham Hospital for 20 years, completed her school while caring for 4 small children and retired in 1992. She was an accomplished woman, a mother of six children, a caregiver of a special needs child, school teacher, and an entrepreneur. She and her husband owned several restaurants, a bed and breakfast inn, and a dance studio. She was an active member of Evangelical Free Church where she sang and taught. Everyone who met or knew Shirley will forever be blessed.

Services will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at Evangelical Free Church where there will be a visitation an hour prior. Rev. Bill Walder will be officiating. Barbara Hurst




Canton – Barbara A. Hurst, 81, of Canton died at 6:40 a.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2015, at Sunset Manor in Canton.

She was born July 9, 1934, in Peoria, to Ralph and Lillian (Chapman) Wantling. 

She is survived by her three children, Wendy Hurst of Canton, Kim Hurst of Tucson, AZ, and Tom (Judy) Hurst of Ninnekah, OK; her former husband, Paul L. Hurst; three grandchildren, Justin (Leslie) Ratzalt, Jandi Haskell, and Jerrod Haskell; one great-grandchild; her cousin, Geraldine Browning of Ventura, CA and her children, Robin, Jill, Randy, and Tod.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandmother, Rose Graham; and aunt, Violet Bowman.

Barbara worked as a Medical Records Clerk for Graham Hospital, retiring in July of 1999.  She was a member of the Canton Jr. Women’s Club, YMCA Service Organization, and Graham Hospital Service League.  She volunteered her time as a patient escort at Graham Hospital and also served as an election judge for the 5th Precinct, from 1999-2012.  She was a member of University United Methodist Church in Peoria.

Cremation rites have been accorded.  Canton – Barbara A. Hurst, 81, of Canton died at 6:40 a.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2015, at Sunset Manor in Canton.
A celebration of her life has been scheduled for Tuesday, October 13, 2015, from 4-6:30pm, at the Donaldson Center in Canton.  At 6:30 the family would like to invite everyone to join them in a walk around the track in her memory.

Jeri Lou Smith


Canton – Jeri Lou Smith, 79, of Canton died Tuesday, October 6, 2015, at Sunset Manor in Canton.
She was born October 23, 1935, in Evergreen Park, to Chester H. Jr. and Mildred (McWilliams) Wason, both who preceded her in death.  She married John Marion Smith on December 13, 1961, at the First Presbyterian Church in Canton.  He survives.
Also surviving are her son, Ronald Gene (Susan) Smith; two grandchildren, Chad Arthur Smith and Jennifer Lyn (Robert) Regan; five great-grandchildren, Alex Ean Smith, Marley Jane Smith, Lily Ann Smith, Kennedi Faith Regan, and Carsyn Rae Regan; and one half-brother, John Blair Wason.
One granddaughter, Jaime Kay Smith, preceded her in death.
She was raised in Chicago by her father for her first 7 years.  When she was 8, she spent a year in a boarding school in a downtown area of Chicago.  She then went to spend 7 years with her paternal grandparents, Chester H. Sr. and Rena Wason, in Canton.  The next 3 years she was sent to live with her mother in Portland, Oregon, where she attended Grant, Lincoln, and Jefferson High Schools, graduating in 1953.  In 1954, she returned to Canton where she resided until her death.
Jeri was employed by Canton Union School District #66, for 34 years, retiring in 1992.  Before that she had worked at Knepps & Reicherts Jewelry Store.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for over 60 years, where she was a former Deacon, Elder, and Trustee.  She transferred her membership to the Evangelical Free Church of Canton in 2009.
She loved fishing, swimming, tennis, painting, travel, flower gardening, decorating, and “just puttering”, visiting all 50 states and many different countries over the years.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 9, 2015, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, where visitation will be held one hour prior to services.  Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Canton.

Canton – Troy Hedges
Hedges, 45, of Canton, passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2015, at the Graham Hospital E.R. in Canton.
He was born on December 25, 1969 in Peoria to David and Jonita (Lynch) Hedges.  His father preceded him in death.
Surviving are his mother, Jonita Daum, three sisters, Shannon Hedges Miller, Jodi Gohde, Meagan Morse, one brother Monty Hedges, adopted son Devyn Davis, seven nieces, two nephews and three great nieces and nephew.
Troy worked as an independent contractor.  He enjoyed the outdoors including fishing and camping.  He was a Green Bay Packer fan but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2015, at 2 pm, with a visitation 2 hours prior at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton.
Burial will be held at the Walnut Cemetery in rural Banner with a celebration of life following.

Barbara Mason


Canton – Barbara A. Mason, 83, of Canton, passed away on Monday, October 5, 2015, at the Renaissance Care Center in Canton.
She was born on April 4, 1932 in Canton to George and Ruth (Gunn) Meece.  They preceded her in death.
She married Victor E. Mason on September 16, 1951 in Canton.  He also preceded her in death on January 31, 2012.
Surviving are her children, Richard Mason of Worden, Sue (Keith) Freiley of Canton, Lu (Alan Whitehead) Probyn of Canton, three grandchildren, Cory (Tressa) Probyn, Rebecca (Nick) Green, Julie (Jamie) Neville, five great grandchildren and one sister Dorothy Buchstaber of New York.
Also preceding her in death are three brothers and one sisters.
Together with her husband she owned and operated Bar-V Enterprises in Canton.  She also enjoyed wood carving.  She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2015, at 11 am, at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, with a visitation one hour prior at the funeral home.
Burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery.

Bob Dams


Cuba – Robert Wayne “Bob” Dams, 58, of Cuba passed away peacefully at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 4, 2015, surrounded by his family at his home.
He was born December 19, 1956, in Carlinville, to Melvin “Pete” and Carol Dams.  He married Jeanne Mason on June 10, 1978, in Smithfield.  She survives.
Also surviving are his mother; three children, Elizabeth (Derek) Dare, Cassandra (Mike) Myers, and Jason (Jamie) Dams; six grandchildren, Kennedy Dare, Gavin Myers, Jaylee Dams, Jenna Dams, Blain Myers, and Jake Myers; one brother, Kent (Yvonne) Dams; his father and mother-in-law, Lyle and Doretta Mason; four brother-in-laws, George (Christie) Mason, David Mason, Phillip (Patty) Mason, and Paul (Niki) Mason; one sister-in-law, Debbie (Chris) Wright; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father; two brothers, Michael and Randall Dams; grandparents, Jesse and Geneva (Wade) Heyen and Wilbur and Emma (Sanders) Dams; and two nephews, Jacob Dams and Zachary Taylor.
Bob retired from Duck Creek Station Power Plant after 31 years of service.  He also farmed on his family farm.  He was a member of the IBFO Local #8, IBEW Local #51, Canton Elks Lodge #626, ABATE of Fulton County, and the Fulton County Farm Bureau.  He was also a NWTF Sponsor and a proud little league coach.
Bob was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding his Harley.  He spent endless hours devoted to his family and friends, but his true passion in life was spent being “Papa” to his grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2015, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton with Rev. Ellen Dodd officiating.  Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 4-7 p.m.  Burial will be at Baughman Cemetery in rural Smithfield.

Robert Dams, 58, of Cuba died at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 4, 2015, at his home.  Funeral services are pending at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton.

Pamula D. Martin


Canton- Pamula D. Martin, 49, of Canton passed away at 3:47 PM Thursday October 1, 2015 at Graham Hospital emergency room in Canton.

She was born June 7, 1966 at Havana the daughter of Patrick and Sandy S. (Hallmark) McCabe. She was preceded in death by her father and one daughter Jessica Martin. Surviving are her mother Sandy McCabe of Cuba, one daughter, Tiffany Jenkins of Canton, one brother, Stephen McCabe of Macomb, one sister, Angela (Tim) Myers, of Cuba, three grandchildren, Payton Jenkins, Landon Vogel, and Cayson Jenkins, nieces and nephews, Blake and Madison Myers, and Ashley and Ryan McCabe.

Pamula worked as a DSP at FCRC in Canton. She graduated from Cuba High School in 1984 and then attended Spoon River College. She was of Catholic faith. Pamula enjoyed life and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed bowling with her friends on the bowling league.

Cremation will be accorded. A memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday October 7th at the Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery at Lewistown. Visitation will be held two hours prior to services at the memorial home. Memorial contributions may be made to an education fund for Pamula’s grandchildren c/o Triumph Community Bank in Canton. Dan L. Markley


Cuba- Dan L. Markley, 66, of Cuba, passed away at 5:51 PM Wednesday September 30, 2015 At Graham Hospital Emergency Room.

He was born June 13, 1949 at Canton, the son of Robert and Melba (Redfern) Markley. He married Kim Harris on March 15, 1975 at Canton. Survivors include his mother, Melba Markley of Cuba, two children, Chad (Barbie) Markley of Cuba, and Tara (Jorge) Coromac of Overland Park, KS; one grandchild, Alexus Markley, two step grandchildren, one brother, James L. Markley of Cuba, six sisters, Ethel (Pete) Mosher of Cuba, Pam Hedden of Ellisville, Sharon (James Jr.) Trone of Canton, Roberta (Daryl) Sarff of Havana, Brenda Suydam of Smithfield,  Judy English of Cuba, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, and one brother, John Markley.

Dan retired from Caterpillar Mapleton Plant. He was a Vietnam Veteran serving in the Army. He was a member of the Lancaster Masonic Lodge, Cuba American Legion Russell Smith Post 533, and the UAW. His passions in life were farming, raising cattle, and being with family.

Services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba, with Reverend Mike Arnett officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday from 3-5 PM at the memorial home. Burial will be in Fiatt Cemetery with military rites accorded by Cuba American Legion Post. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cass-Putman Rescue Squad or the Cuba Fire Department. Audrey “Jan” Workman


Audrey “Jan” Workman, 62, of Farmington, passed away at 5:10 PM on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at her residence. She was born February 24, 1953 to Charles and Anna (Rice) Bowers. She married Paul Workman on July 10, 1971 in Louisville, KY, he survives.
Also surviving are four children, Amy (Tad) Allard of Canton, Dena (Denny) Atchley of Norris, Kathy Workman and Samantha Workman of Farmington; four grandchildren, Addison, Luke, Deegan, and Decker; and two sisters.
Preceding her in death are her parents.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Services will be at 6:00 PM with a visitation an hour prior Monday, October 5, 2015 at Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Farmington. Michael L. Cox

Canton- Michael L. Cox, 54, of Canton, and formerly of Lewistown, passed away at 8:40 AM Wednesday September 30, 2015 at Graham Hospital.

He was born April 8, 1961 at Canton, the son of Ralph L. and Mary F. (Bainter) Cox. Survivors include his mother, Mary Cox of Canton, three children, Shannon Olson of Havana,  Sean (Sonya Sheets) Cox of Montgomery, AL; and Samantha Cox of Havana,  his fiancĂ©e and companion for 20 years, Denise Colglazier, and her two children, John (Matt Ferguson) Colglazier of New York, NY; and  Mindy (Tiffany) Lockhart of Seattle, WA; five grandsons, one brother, Mark Cox of Canton, and two sisters, Lynn Cox of Canton, and Marcy (Troy) Jones of Mesa, AZ. He was preceded in death by his father.

He was a supervisor at ATS in Peoria. He enjoyed fishing, mushrooming, woodcarving, and loved his dog, Buddy.

Cremation will be accorded. A celebration of life will be held Saturday form 4-6 PM at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown. Burial of ashes will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at a later date.
