Pat Benedetto

Lewistown – Patricia I. “Pat” Benedetto, 70, of Lewistown, died at 11:25 p.m. on Friday, March 27, 2015 at her home.

She was born February 16, 1945 in Canton, to Florence Jack “Dick” and Florence Loine (Ashwood) Koelling.  She married John Benedetto on March 9, 1980.  He preceded her in death on January 19, 2008.

She is survived by six children, Don (Judy) Howard of Cuba, Randy Howard of Canton, Clay Howard of Canton, Jay (Karen) Howard of Divernon, Melanie “Missey” (Pete) Belless of Lewistown, and Brenda Howard of Canton; two step-children, Mark (Edie) Benedetto and Lori Boston; one brother, Richard “Dick” Koelling of Idaho; one sister, Merry Chambers of Smithfield; twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, William; and one sister, Sissy.
Pat was a homemaker.    She enjoyed fishing and gambling; and especially enjoyed hosting family dinners during the holidays.

Per Pat’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and there will be no services.  Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton is in charge of arrangements.

Walter Lee Poscis

Cuba- Walter Lee Poscis, 76, of Cuba passed away at 10:45 AM Monday March 30, 2015 at his home.

He was born January 24, 1939 at Farmington, the son of Walter and Nancy (Dick) Poscis. He married Virginia Louise Cozart on July 10, 1960 at Cuba. She survives with two daughters, Pam (Dave) Clouse of Canton, Lori (Everett) Murphy of Canton, six grandchildren, Brandon (Christy) Murphy of Trenton, Tabitha (Jeremy) Brown of Mattoon, Melissa (Clayton) Stufflebeam of Pekin, and Christopher Clouse (Kendall Cumby) of rural Lewistown, Shaun Murphy of Canton, Whitney Murphy of Canton, three great grandchildren, Kendal Brown, Carter Murphy, and Gwen Murphy, one great grandchild he was looking forward to meeting in August 2015, one sister, Sandra Girard of Canton, and one sister in law, Janice K. Myers of Fairview.

Walter worked for the former Kuchans Bakery in Canton and had also worked at a feed store in Canton. He started working for Admiral, which became Magic Chef, which was bought by Maytag where he retired from. He enjoyed camping, fishing, mushrooming, gardening, and spending time with his kids, grandkids, great grandkids, and nieces and nephews. He also enjoyed his outdoor cats. Walter enjoyed visiting with anyone that he saw or came by to visit. He also enjoyed his constant companion Lady.

A visitation will be held Thursday from 5-7 PM at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba. Cremation will be accorded following the visitation. Clotile Williams

Canton – Clotile Williams, 85, of Canton died at 8:48 a.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Renaissance Care Center in Canton

She was born July 4, 1929 in Derry, LA to Constance and Alice Gallien.  She married Glenn Amos Williams on July 3, 1949 in Canton.  He preceded her in death on January 29, 2009.

She is survived by three children, David Williams of Farmington Hills, MI, Alice (Ken) Herrick of Lewistown, and Joseph (Beth) Williams of Taylorville; two sisters, Nellie Kuhn of Canton and Motile Clark of CA; four grandchildren, Glenn (Brietanya) Williams, Tyler (Shelby) Wells, Austin Wells, and Brett Williams; and two great-grandchildren, Fara and Cora Williams.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Richard, Joseph, and Kelly Gallien.
Clotile was a seamstress for Canton Overall Manufacturing, retiring after 43 years.  She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Canton.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, where visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday evening.  Burial will be at White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Food Pantry.

Max Boo

Max Boo, 87, of Lewistown passed away at 12:30 AM Sunday March 29, 2015 at his home.

He was born November 23, 1927 at Canton the son of Joseph and Helen (Merrill) Boo. He married Shirley Bainter on June 9, 1950 at Lewistown. She survives along with five children, Jerry (Cheryl) Boo of Tremont, Joyce Boo of Cuba, JoEllyn Boo of Lewistown, John (Darla) Boo of Lewistown, and Jana (Dana) Schrock of Lewistown, six grandchildren, Jenelle Boo, Julianne Boo, Jacob Boo, Cody Boo, Halie Boo, and Kyleigh Schrock. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

Max was a wholesale milk distributor for many years. He was a member of the St. David Church of the Nazarene. Max enjoyed bowling, fishing, gardening, and woodworking. He had coached several youth and young adult baseball teams. He was an avid San Francisco Giants fan.  

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday April 1st at the Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Pastor Randy Munson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at Lewistown. Cheryl Rogers

Cheryl Rogers, 69, of Spencer, Indiana, formerly of Canton, and Ipava passed away at her residence, Tuesday, March 24, 2015.  She was born November 3, 1945 in Canton, IL to Harlan Everett Barlow and Maxyne Doris (Payne) Ferro.  She was a graduate of Canton Senior High and worked as a cashier in various restaurants in Spencer and Bloomington.  She enjoyed bingo, bowling, knitting, and being with family.

She is survived by two daughters, Angela McLaughlin (Shamus) of Kettering, OH and Tara Hudelson (John) of Martinsville; a brother, Fred Barlow of Canton, IL; a sister, Lynn Tracey (Richard) of Ellisville, IL; and four grandchildren, Donovan Hudelson, Jacob, Devin, and Colin McLaughlin.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her step-father, Geno Ferro, and her husband, Richard Rogers.

A visitation will be held 4-6pm Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home in Spencer, IN.  Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Friday, April 3, 2015 at Murphy Sedgwick Funeral Home in Canton, IL with visitation two hours prior.  Rev. Stephen Moore will officiate.  Burial will follow at Bushnell Cemetery.

Shirley Hedden

Trivoli – Shirley J. Hedden passed away peacefully at Unity Point Methodist Hospital in Peoria at 7:15 PM Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at the age of 87.
She is survived by her husband, Virgil of Trivoli; her son, Scott (Diane) Hedden of Trivoli; grandson, Brett J. (Kirsten) Hedden of Lake Camelot; and great grandson, Kyle Fremont Hedden.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Shirley was born on October 2, 1927 in Trivoli to Fremont and Mabel (Lapsley) Opie.  She graduated from Farmington Community High School in 1945 and married Virgil L. Hedden on February 26, 1950 in Trivoli.

A lifelong resident of Trivoli, she began working for her father’s bank, Trivoli State Bank (now Heritage Bank), in May 1945. Through her years with the bank, she held the positions of bookkeeper, head teller, Asst. Cashier, and Vice-President, retiring in 1992.  She also served on the Bank’s Board of Directors for 36 years.
Shirley was a dedicated wife and mother.  She lived her entire life in the Trivoli area.  After marriage, she lived on both the Hedden and Opie family farms with the love of her life, Virgil.  Outside of her family, her passion in life was traveling.  During her lifetime she was fortunate to have visited all 50 states.  In her retirement years, she traveled extensively overseas.  She visited the Swiss Alps, cruised the Panama Canal, climbed the Acropolis in Greece, and rode a camel in Australia.  She was always planning her next trip until age and time finally caught up to her.

In addition to traveling the world, she loved to spend time in the winter at their trailer near West Palm Beach, Florida as she loved the ocean and the beach.
Shirley also loved singing and dancing and was a member of the Canton Sweet Adelines barbershop chorus for many years.  Her love of music ranged from the Glenn Miller Band to Elvis.  The last major trip she was able to make was to Memphis and Elvis’ home, Graceland, for her 80th birthday.
She was a lifelong member of the Trivoli United Methodist Church where she was active with the TUMC Evening Circle.  She also was a member of the Peoria County Homemakers, Prairie Quilters, and Farmington Red Hats.  For several years, she also served on the finance committee of the Rural Peoria County Council on Aging.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 pm Sunday, March 29th and again on Monday, March 30th from 10 to 11 am at Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home, Farmington.  The funeral services will follow at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Pastor Bob DeBolt officiating.

Burial will be in Penn Ridge Cemetery, Trivoli.

Nicole Drinkwater

Canton – Nicole Lynn Drinkwater, 19, of Canton, IL passed away at 1:53 PM Thursday, March 26, 2015 at her residence.
She was born May 24, 1995 in Canton.
Surviving are her mother, Jackie Downey of Canton; maternal grandmother, Shirley Downey of Canton; brother, Marshall Lee Drinkwater Jr. of Macomb; sister, Kaylyn Drinkwater of Canton; aunt, Evelyn Matheny of Cuba; and two uncles, John (Amy) Downey of Leesburg, GA and Freddy Clark  (Mary) Downey of Fruitland Park, FL.
Nicole was a Canton High School graduate.
Services will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 1st at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home, Canton with Rev. Greg White officiating.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM Tuesday, March 31st at the funeral home.

Amy Mercer

Canton – Amy Beth Mercer, 48, of Canton, IL passed away at 1:27 AM Thursday, March 26, 2015 at OSF St. Francis in Peoria.
She was born March 18, 1967 in Peoria, IL to Roland and Harriette (Snyder) Koeppel.
Amy married Kevin Mercer on April 26, 1986 in Pekin.
He survives along with their son, Kevin Mercer Jr. of Pittsburg, PA, formerly of Canton; 3 brothers, David Koeppel, Bud Koeppel, and Kevin Heady; 2 sisters, Julie Buhr and Tamra Brown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Amy graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelors Degree in History.
She was an office manager at Wesley United Methodist Church in Canton.
Amy was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Canton.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 AM Monday, March 30th at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home, Canton.

JoAnne Theyse

Canton – JoAnne Theyse, 85, of Canton, passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at her residence.
She was born on March 31, 1929 in St David to Charles and Josephine (Ruffatto) Kepley.  They preceded her in death.
She married James E. Theyse on September 28, 1948 in Newbedford, IL.  He survives.
Also surviving is her daughter, Teryl (Randy) Stell of Canton, two brothers, Terry (Pat) Kepley of Washington, IL., Gary (Connie) Kepley of Rome, IL, five grandchildren, Jason (Laura) Stell. Mark (Charity) Theyse, Larry (Amanda) Ostertag, Laura Theyse, Launa Theyse and seven great grandchildren.
Her son James “Jamie” Theyse and sister Betty Coartney also preceded her in death.
Before her retirement she worked as a hairdresser in St. David, at K-Mart as personnel Manager and finally as a property manager at the Wallick Group in Peoria.  She was a member of the South Park United Methodist Church.
Most of all she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at the White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton.  There will be no visitation.  Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton is in charge of arrangements.

Georgia Colvin

Canton - Georgia I. Colvin, 91, of Canton, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at the Farmington Country Manor.
She was born on June 12, 1923 in Glasford to Earl and Lottie Martin Tindall.  They preceded her in death Georgia Colvin.
She married Elmer Colvin on August 10, 1939 in St Charles, MO.  He preceded her in death.
Surviving are her children Bill (Shirley) Colvin of Canton, Terry (Sharon) Colvin of Belleview Florida, grandchildren, LeeAnn (Lary) Howarter, Bonnie Colvin, Kim (Larry) Taylor, Mark Colvin John Colvin and Lauri (Brian) Ludy.  Also surviving are her great grandchildren Justin (April) Howarter, Sheena Parsons, Brandi Taylor, Karissa Taylor, Joe Wuest, Dan (Samantha) Wuest, Mackeigan Wuest and great great grandchildren, Alanah and Ashlynn Howater and Calee and Levi Parsons.
Georgia was a member of Monterey United Methodist Church and the Monterey Church Ladies Quilting Club.

John "Kelly" Duchardt

John “Kelly” Duchardt Jr, 73, of Cuba, IL. passed away at 7 am March 24, 2015 at Lutheran Home Samaritan Place in Peoria, IL. He was born July 19, 1941 in Canton, Illinois to John Kelly Duchardt and Martha (Engle) Duchardt Sr. He married Linda Ann (Williams) Duchardt December 23, 1966 in Canton, she preceded him in death on June 20, 2013.
He is survived by two daughters: Gretchen (Michael) Petrunich of Brownsburg, IN, and Megan (Aaron) Donnelli of Germantown Hills, five grandchildren he adored; Sydney, Jacob, and Marisa Petrunich, and Anna and Katie Donnelli and two brothers; Gene (Janette) Duchardt of California and David (Sherry) Duchardt of Morton, IL.
He attended Bradley University and Purdue University, graduating with a degree in civil engineering.
Mr. Duchardt was a hard and dedicated worker from a young age. He started work at age 12, working in the family meat market, meat cutter 3 years at C-W super market. He spent 4 summers working as an engineering technician at IDOT and Warren-Van Praag Consulting engineering. In college, he worked at Harry’s Chocolate Shop as a bartender at Purdue. He worked at International Harvester as an assistant mechanical engineer, and was division head of industrial engineering at Hart Carter Company, becoming a manufacturing manager over 2 plants, purchasing, industrial and manufacturing engineering. He became a State Farm Agent in 1979, and retired after 27 years with the company.
Mr. Duchardt loved his community and participated by donating over 124 units of blood. He was an E-5 in the United States Army Reserves. He was also a member of the Presbyterian Church, First Christian Church, and Wesley United Methodist Church, and a past certified lay speaker, Sunday school teacher, and president of the men’s group and won the spark plug award from Peoria District United Methodist Church. He was a school board member for 13 years in Mendota and Canton school districts. Serving as past secretary on the Mendota Board, and past president on the Canton Board. He served as a chairman of the Canton planning and zoning board, and a 30 year member of the Mendota and Canton Kiwanis Club, serving as distinguished secretary and twice past distinguished President of the Canton Kiwanis.
Mr. Duchardt was a board member of the Chamber of Commerce in Mendota and past president of the Chamber of Commerce in Canton. He also served on the boards of the United Way, and the Wee Ma Tuk Water District.
Mr. Duchardt loved travel, and traveled in eleven northern European countries, New Zealand, and to China. He enjoyed sharing his joy of travel with his family, and sharing his love of the outdoors and fishing with his dear friends, traveling over 100 times to the north-woods of Minnesota, and Canada where he fished, canoed, and went dog sledding.

Helen Williams

Dunfermline – Helen L. Williams, 82, of Dunfermline, died at 10:50 p.m. Sunday, March 22, 2015 at Graham Hospital in Canton.
She was born in Dunfermline of February 22, 1933 to Anthony and Justina (Dorich) Marinich.
She married Donald L. “Pete” Williams in Canton on December 18, 1954. He preceded her in death on July 21, 2003.
Surviving are two sons Fred A. Williams of Dunfermline and Edward L. (Carol) Williams of Canton, her cherished granddaughter Cassidy Williams, brother Lawrence (Shirley) Marinich of Dunfermline, two sisters Mary Payne and Teresa White, both of Dunfermline, and brother-in-law Jack Essex. Several nieces and nephews and great- nieces and nephews, also survive.
She was also preceded in death by her brother Frank Marinich and sister Agnes Essex.
Helen was a homemaker and the popcorn hostess at Midamerica National Bank for many years. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in St. David.
She was the treasurer of the Dunfermline-St. David water & sewer commission for over 25 years, she served one term as Mayor of Dunfermline, was a founding member of the Dunfermline Women’s Club, member of the PTA, and secretary for UMWA Local #7110. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Bradley Braves fan.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 27, 2015 at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, where visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, with recitation of the rosary at 5:30 p.m.
Burial will be at Highbridge Cemetery in Dunfermline.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

June Stoneking

Canton – June N. Stoneking, 100, formerly of Canton and Ellisville, died at 10:40 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Clayberg Nursing Home in Cuba.
She was born on June 9, 1914 in Fiatt to Charles W. and Cora (Knott) Utsinger.
She married Lawrence Stoneking in Keokuk, Iowa on December 8, 1937. He preceded her in death on September 30, 1949.
Surviving are two children Connie (Richard) Keener of Marietta and Randall Stoneking of Canton, six grandchildren Kelly (Albert) Weiss, Torey Keener, Neil Keener, Gail Cavaness, Gretchen (Scott) Beaty, and Ashley Stoneking, eleven great-grandchildren, two great great-grandchildren, two sisters Arthaline Widger of Fiatt and Mary Wright of Peoria.

June was a self-employed hairdresser for many years and a member of Wiley Lutheran Church in rural Ellisville.

John Shaw

Smithfield – John M. Shaw, 80, of Knoxville, formerly of rural Smithfield, died at 9:24 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville.
He was born in Canton on June 9, 1934 to Merle and Willadeane (Strode) Shaw.
He married Donna Henderson on May 8, 1955. She preceded him in death on June 21, 2013.
Surviving are three children Johnny Jr.(Shearie) Shaw of Lee’s Summit, MO, Jana (John) Bridgewater of Mission, KS, and Jody (Keith) Douglass of East Galesburg, five grandchildren  Joshua Berry, Amanda Douglass, Kristin Hicks, Candace McRae, and Gina Martin, three great-grandchildren, three sisters Judy Tusek of Yates City, Janet Turner of Peoria, and Joyce (Dennis) Burkiett of Fairveiw.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Jerry Shaw, and brother Jack Shaw.
John was the owner operator of Shaw’s Fertilizer Service and was a farmer. He was a member of the Cuba Masonic Lodge AF&AM and Mohammed Temple Shrine of Peoria.
He was an avid Cardinal’s fan and enjoyed western movies and books.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday March 24, 2015 at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, where visitation will be held on Monday 6-8 p.m., with masonic rites at 7:45 p.m.
Burial will be at Henderson Cemetery in rural Cuba.
Memorials may be made to Knox County Nursing Home or Hospice Compassus.

JoAnn Putman

Canton – Jessie JoAnn Putman, 79, of Canton, died at 6:15 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Prairieview Care Center in Lewistown.
She was born in rural Lewistown on July 28, 1935 to Willis and Helen (Huddleston) Mason.
She married John F. Putman in Canton on November 21, 1954. He preceded her in death on May 28,  2003.
She is survived by three children John T. (Diane) Putman of Canton, Joseph (Dawn) Putman of Canton and Rebecca Bull of Edgewater, FL., ten grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, one brother Willis Mason of Canton, and two sisters Betty Brooks of Bryant and Dixie Henderson of Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Bobby Bruce Putman, infant son David M. Putman, and infant sister Barbara Mason.
She was a CNA at Graham Hospital in Canton for 30 years. She attended Calvary Baptist Church in Canton. JoAnn was an avid camper and loved animals, her greater love was her grand and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, March 25 at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, with graveside services following at Salem-Wilcoxen Cemetery in rural Bryant.
Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Fulton County.

Moneta Morgan

Canton–Moneta M. Morgan, 98, of Canton, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at 8:55 pm, at the Renaissance Care Center in Canton.
She was born on October 4, 1916 in Fulton County to Ross and Marie Chaddock  Stufflebeam Brown.
She married William Morgan on April 10, 1943 in Canton.  He preceded her in death on November 21, 2000.
Surviving are her friends, Toni Rockhold and Jan Starcevich; cousins Maralyn (Dale) Cleer of Hanna City, David (Chrystal) Chaddock of Canton, Phillip (Ellen) Chaddock of Peoria, half-sisters Vaneta Antle of Peoria, JoAnn Johnson of Peoria and half-brother Ronald Stufflebeam of Bellevue.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, step-father Allie Brown and half-brother Jerry Stufflebeam.
After graduating from Canton High School in 1933 she was the secretary to the superintendent of schools for 25 years.  Later she worked as a part time sale clerk at Lee-Rose Ladies Apparel and became their bookkeeper.
Moneta was a lifetime member of the Beta Psi Chapter, Sigma Phi Gamma Sorority.  She was a member of the Canton Country Club for many years and was a 3 time ladies golf champion.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at 11 am at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton with a visitation one hour prior.
Burial will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery in Canton.

Jack Spiva

Canton – Jack L. Spiva, 86, of Canton, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at the Renaissance Care Center in Canton.
He was born on June 6, 1928 in Canton to Harvey M. and Mildred I. (Hancock) Spiva.  They preceded him in death.
He married Delores E. Baylor on June 3, 1950 in Canton.  She preceded him in death on December 1, 2014.
Surviving are two sons, Charles Spiva of Canton, Jon (Gail) Spiva of Canton, one sister Beverly Lehman of Fisher, two grandchildren, Brian (Michelle) Spiva of Canton, and Sarah (Ron) Stout of Peoria and six great grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death is his brother, Harvey Spiva Jr.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in Germany under General George Patton.
Jack worked for International Harvester for 28 years and later worked for Greater Peoria Sanitary District retiring in 1991.  He was a member of the Canton Moose Lodge, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2015, at 2 pm, at the White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton.  There will be no visitation
Memorials may be made the WWII memorial at Lakeland Park.

Roberta Hughes

Roberta M. Hughes, 97, of Canton, passed away at 5:30 PM Wednesday March 18, 2015 at Clayberg Nursing Home in Cuba, where she was a resident.
 
She was born August 24, 1917 at Fiatt, the daughter of James and Lulu (Woods) Hughes. Surviving is one niece, Jean Jacobsohn of New Jersey, and several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
 
She worked in the engineering department at International Harvester for 17 years at the Canton Works, and 21 years at the Hinsdale Engineering Center. She retired at Hinsdale in 1980 and returned to Canton. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Canton.
 
A private family graveside committal service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery with Reverend Bruce Rushing officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Clayberg Nursing Home Activity Fund.
