Letteria "Lee" Diefendorf


Letteria (Lee) G. Diefendorf, 96, of Farmington, IL passed away peacefully Sunday, June 26, 2016.
She was born February 24, 1920 in Reading, PA to Dominic and Fortunata Crupi.
She served in WWII as a Technical Sargent with the United States Marine Corps from Sept 6, 1943 to November 16, 1945.  While stationed at Cherry Point, NC she met Edwin Diefendorf and they wed on November 5, 1945.  She is survived by her husband Edwin and their five children, Joanne (Joe) Bellitto of Girard, OH, Ed Diefendorf Jr. of Littleton, CO, David (Dianna) Diefendorf of Hanna City, IL, Dan (Lissa) Diefendorf of Peoria, IL, and Mary(Corey) Starcevich of Bushnell, IL, five grandchildren Sasha, Amy, Kiel, Jessica and Wesley and four great-grandchildren.
Lee loved working side by side with her husband of 70 years, building their house, their furniture, raising gardens, traveling and helping him with numerous side businesses such as a green house, saw sharpening and other innovative projects.
In her lifetime she enjoyed sewing for her family, the craft fads of crochet, knitting, macramĂ©, candle wicking and embroidery. She loved listening to music and singing with her family. Lee was an avid reader, documenting and rating each book.  She played duplicate bridge and studied oil painting, completing numerous still life and landscape scenes.  She was a member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church.
Cremation rites will be accorded.  The family will accept condolences on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Oaks Hines Funeral Home in Canton, IL.  A memorial service will follow at  2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.

Larry D. Anderson


NORRIS- Larry D. Anderson, 73, of Norris, passed away at 2:15 PM on Monday, June 27, 2016 at his residence. He was born on October 13, 1942 in Canton, a son of William Earl and Margaret Irene (Johnson) Anderson. He married Priscilla Foreman on June 10, 1962 in Gilchrist, she survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Rhonda (Randy) Cozad of Macomb; Debbie (Biff) Brakeman of Lafayette, IL, and five grandchildren.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and two sisters.
He worked as a welder for Sawmill Hydraulics for many years, and in his free time loved to ride motorcycles.
A celebration of life will be held from 2-7 PM on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at the Canton VFW. Cremation rites have been accorded with Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton. James Mitchell


Canton – James F. Mitchell, 73, of Canton passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at Renaissance Care Center in Canton.
He was born September 2, 1942, in Canton to Noble and Neva (Voorhees) Mitchell.  He married Cheryl (Walker) Moore on November 17, 1990.  She preceded him in death on October 20, 2014.  His parents and one sibling, Marjorie Mitchell Ball also preceded him in death.
Surviving are one sister, Marilyn (Eric) Hinderliter of Canton; one daughter, Jennifer (Rodger) Nelson of Lewistown; two step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren; three nieces; two nephews; three great-nieces; and one step-son, Joe Moore of Canton.
James farmed with his dad, Noble, for Orendorff until his dad retired in 1982.  He then worked as a welder at Caterpillar and Hitchcock Scrapyard and as an over-the-road truck driver for Star Delivery.  In 1997, he joined Duck Island Sand and Gravel as a co-owner, working there until his retirement, in December, 2015.  He loved horses and riding and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Cremation rites have been accorded.  A Celebration of Life will be held at Monterey United Methodist Church on Sunday, July 3, 2016, from 2-4 p.m., following a brief service at 1:30 p.m.

William Henkle


Canton – William C. “Bill” Henkle, 79, of Canton passed away at 10:52 p.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Reflections – Washington.
He was born on September 16, 1936, in Ipava to Wilbur E. and Mary Eleanor (Weaver) Henkle.  He married Rebecca A. Vercoe on May 21, 1979, in Las Vegas, NV.  She survives.
Also surviving are two children, Stacey L. Brantley of Tucson, AZ, and Kimberly K. (Brian) Hines of Metamora; six step-children, Deirdre (Dave) Miller of Plymouth, Kirk (Karen) Lingenfelter of Raleigh, NC, Becky Jean (Ryk) Howell of Canton, Jon Lingenfelter of Canton, Gene (Debbie) Lingenfelter of Farmington, and Brian Lingenfelter of Canton; fifteen grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Rosalie France, and one niece, Sylvia Morris.
Bill was a veteran of the United States Naval Air Forces, serving his country during the Korean War.  Following his service he worked as a lineman for CIPS, retiring in 2001.  He was also a member of the International Brotherhood Electrical Workers Local #707. 
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 30, 2016, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, where a visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Burial, with military honors, will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Canton.
Memorials in Bill’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Peoria.

Robert Duryea


Canton – Robert G. “Bob” Duryea, 91, of Canton, passed away at 3:15 a.m. on Friday, June 24, 2016, in Canton.
He was born on July 17, 1924, in Canton to Frank and Lula (Postin) Duryea.  They preceded him in death.
He married Evelyn Blakesmith on March 23, 1946, in Carthage, and recently celebrated 70 years of marriage.  She survives.
Also surviving are his children, Frank (Gloria) Duryea of Hanna City, Kathy (Chuck Henseler) Duryea-Smith of Canton, Sarah (Brad) Fairfield of Gibson City; one sister, Mary Alice Weaver of Canton; seven grandchildren, Kyle (Katlyn) Duryea, Nick (Krista) Smith, Natalie Smith, Hannah (Danny Cole) Garrison, James Fairfield, Brooke Fairfield, and Terese Fairfield; and one great-grandson, Jaxson Cole.
Bob worked as a lathe operator for International Harvester in Canton, retiring in 1983.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and most of all, spending time with his family.  He was a dedicated volunteer at the First Baptist Church Food Pantry for many years and attended Covenant Community Fellowship Church. 
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 27, 2016, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton.  Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Canton.

Ethel M. Davis


Canton - Ethel M. Davis, 89, of Canton passed away at 11:55 am on Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Canton.
She was born on January 22, 1927, in Rushville to John Henry and Lulu (Lashbrook) Knous.  She married Irvin James Davis on June 30, 1946, in Rushville.  He survives.
Also surviving are two children, Sherrie Smith of Chillicothe and Jeff Davis of Canton; ten grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Stephen J. Davis; three brothers, James, Lloyd, and Charles Knous; and three sisters, Carrie Helen Rohn, Lorena Wright, and Hildreth Venters.
Ethel enjoyed raising her family and also worked at the Overall Factory in Canton.  She enjoyed spending winters in Texas with her husband, and they were both active in the Wally Byam Caravan Club International and Sam’s Club.
Cremation rites have been accorded.  A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, where visitation will be held one hour prior to services.  Burial will be at White Chapel Memory Gardens.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Robert Harn


Lewistown- J. Robert Harn, 87, formerly of Lewistown, passed away at 3:30 AM Wednesday June 22, 2016 at Havana Health Care Center.

Bob was born August 8, 1928 in Marietta, IL to Leroy and Edith (Creek) Harn. He married Jean Ann Bohannon on March 18, 1951. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Jean Ann, one brother, Charles Harn of Fairview, and one sister, Elizabeth McGinnis of Scottsdale, AZ. He is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Bob farmed and worked at Sunspot Mine located at Vermont, IL. He later worked at Fabco in Havana.

Bob was a devoted and well loved member of Isabel Church since June of 1951. He quietly lived his faith, generously giving of his time, his many talents, and monetarily to anyone he knew that was in need. Bob and Jean Ann lived a humble and simple life, especially enjoying their flower and vegetable gardens. Bob was a member of the Fulton County Farm Bureau and the United Mine Workers Union Local 7110.

Cremation has been accorded. A memorial service led by Pastor Steve Hoover of Isabel Church, will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown. Carrie Mae Davis


Canton – Carrie Mae Davis, 92, of Canton, passed away at 3:47 PM on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at Graham Hospital. She was born on May 3, 1924 in Ellisville to Lewis and Lena (Ault) Martin. She married Wiley Davis on September 25, 1948 in Monmouth, IL, he preceded her in death on September 7, 1989.

Also preceding her in death were her parents, three brothers, and four sisters.

Surviving are three sons, William “Bill” Davis of Creve Coeur, Richard “Dick” (Peggy) Davis of Canton, and Robert “Rob” Davis of Canton; five grandchildren, Tanya Johnson, Brock Davis, Bradley Davis, Keri Medus, and Stacie Wilcoxen; and three great-grandchildren, Claire Davis, Jayden Wilcoxen, and Addison Wilcoxen.

Carrie loved spending time with her family, being outdoors, and cooking.

Wilbur D. Meadows


Canton – Wilbur D. Meadows, 84, of Canton, passed away at 8:20 PM on June 16, 2016 at his residence. He was born on February 16, 1932 in Abingdon, IL to Clyde and Frances (Watkins) Meadows. He first married Virginia Jarvis on June 5, 1955; she preceded him in death on March 29, 1981. He then married Janet (Rohrer) Flynn in 1982, she survives.
Also surviving are two children, Jane Jersey of Stevens Point, WI, and Lisa (Richard) Sherwin of Bedford, N.H.; three step-children, David Flynn, Bruce Flynn, and Darren Flynn of Canton; eight grandchildren, Sara Stanke, Ben Jackson, Philip Sherwin, Corey Scalf, Mark Flynn, Scott Flynn, Seth Flynn, and Lucas Flynn; five great-grandchildren, Jarrett Stanke, Lillee Stanke, Hayden Stanke, Kitana Jackson, and Allie Flynn; and one sister, Doralee Smith of Sacramento, CA.
Preceding him in death are his parents; first wife Virginia; one brother, Bill Meadows; and his twin sister Wilma.
Wilbur attended Western Illinois University from 1955 to 1957, then Illinois Bankers School, then moving on to American Bankers Association Commercial Lending School, and lastly attending Graduate School of Banking at University of Wisconsin. Wilbur was the CEO at Roseville State Bank from 1957 to 1967, then moved to being the CEO at Havana National Bank from 1967-1970, and lastly was the President and CEO at National Bank of Canton, which is now known as MidAmerica National Bank, from 1970-1997.
Wilbur was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, a 50 year paid up life member of American Legion Post #16, Elks Lodge #626, Lions Club, and also a 50 year paid up member of Masonic Lodge. He was President of the Canton Park District, a member of Fulton County Flying Club, President of Illinois Bankers Association from 1990 to 1991, American Bankers Association from 1991 to 1994, where he served on the community banker’s legislative committee, and a member of Canton Area Chamber of Commerce. He was CACC Joint Citizen of the Year in 1974, and CACC Business Person of the Year in 1992. Wilbur enjoyed golf, fishing, and reading historical fiction.
Along with the other local Financial Institution Presidents in Canton, he worked to bring the Fulton Square Project to Canton to improve a dying downtown during the mid-70’s.
He served as a U.S. Marine during the Korean War, in the U.S. 11th – 1st Division, and in the Sergeant Artillery Unit.
Services will be at 11:30 AM on Monday, June 20, 2016 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, where a visitation will be held from 10:30 -11:30 AM. Rev. K. Bruce Rushing will officiate. A visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Sunday, June 19, 2016 at the funeral home. Cremation rites will be accorded following the services. Bobby Neal Traylor


Canton – Bobby Neal Traylor, 63, of Canton, passed away peacefully, on June 17, 2016, at his residence.
He was born on November 2, 1952, in Fort Campbell, KY, to Bobby Gene and Mary Francis (Welker) Traylor.  They preceded him in death.
He married Helen Gschwind on February 9, 1972 in Mackinaw, IL.  She survives.
Also surviving are his mother, Mary Lou Traylor of Morton, three children, Jason (Loni) Traylor of Colchester, Joel (Michell) Traylor of Decatur, Kyle (Christina) Traylor of Pekin, one brother Jerry Traylor of East Peoria, three sisters, Bobbi Sue Edwards of East Peoria, Lori Giacinti of South Carolina, Traci Traylor of Morton, eleven grandchildren, Julia, David, Elisa, Bradon, Cooper, Tyler, Bryce, Blaine, Caden, Cait, Vincent and expected grandchild Norah.  His beloved dogs, Chug and Bucket, will dearly miss him.
Also preceding him in death was one infant brother Larry Gene.
Bobby served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and after the service became a self-employed truck driver.
He explored his faith through numerous churches and centered his life around Christ.
He raced stock cars at the Spoon River Speedway, enjoyed golfing, playing the guitar and meeting his buddies at the local coffee shops every morning.
Most of all Bobby was a loving Husband, Father and Grandfather.
A Visitation will be held on Monday, June 20, 2016, from 4-6 pm, at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton with a funeral following at 6 pm.
Cremation rites will be accorded following the services.
Memorials may be made to the Sisters of the 3rd Order of St. Francis.

Richard Allen Howarter, Sr.

Richard Allen Hawarter, Sr., 73, Cuba, Illinois, passed away on Friday, June 10, 2016 at his residence surrounded by his family.  A Celebration of Life will be held at the Cuba Community Center on Friday, June 24th at 5 p.m.  In lieu of flowers you can make donations to Cuba FFA Program; Cuba Sr. High School; 20325 N. Evalyn Boyd


Lewistown- Evalyn Boyd, 102, of Lewistown passed away at 7:45 PM Wednesday June 15, 2016 at Graham Hospital in Canton.

She was born August 2, 1913 at Lewistown the daughter of Clifford and Jennie (Vaughn) Cyphers. She married Marvin Boyd on December 24, 1936 at Galesburg. He died June 28, 1962. She was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and three sisters. Surviving are 11 nieces and nephews, 21 great nieces and nephews, and 23 great great nieces and nephews.

Evalyn worked as an abstractor at Fulton County Abstract Company and had also worked at the Farmers State Bank. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lewistown. Other memberships include Order of Eastern Star 634, Spoon River Professional Women’s Club, Lewistown American Legion auxiliary, and Lewistown VFW ladies auxiliary. Evalyn will always be remembered as a wonderful loving aunt.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday at the Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Reverend Kenny Bloyd officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at Lewistown. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the memorial home. Canton – Ralph L. Groover, 84, of Canton, passed away at 3:03 AM on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Graham Hospital. He was born on May 20, 1932 in Morris, OK, to Franklin and Dovie (Rainwater) Groover. He married Myrna Bentley on January 29, 1953 in Lewistown, IL. She survives. He considered his wife his angel of life.

Also surviving are two sons, Leon Groover of Canton, and Rick (Darlene) Groover of Canton; five grandchildren, Chris (Cait), April, Heather, Brandon, Brian, and Adam; eight great-grandchildren; one brother; and five sisters.

Preceding him in death are his parents, one grandson, Ralph Leon Groover III, one great-granddaughter, Cali, two brothers, and two sisters.

Ralph worked at Art & Gene’s Chevy Dealership for 45 years. He is a member of Eastside Nazarene Church in Canton. He loved music, gardening, activities with his grandchildren, tinkering with things, and also giving and helping out others. Ralph was an avid Cardinals fan.

Ralph served in the Air Force.

Services will be at 11 AM on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, where a visitation will be held from 10-11 AM. Rev. Rick Atchley will officiate. Gerald D. “Mac” McCormick


Lewistown- Gerald D. “Mac” McCormick, 100, formerly of Canton and Lewistown, passed away at 6:00 AM Wednesday June 15, 2016 at the Elms Nursing Home in Macomb.

He was born April 9, 1916 at Astoria Township, the son of Glenn and Alice (Zettle) McCormick. He married Ella Bernice Allen on June 3, 1942 at Sault Saint Marie, Michigan. She preceded him in death on August 16, 2006. He was also preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and one sister. Surviving is one son, Larry (Roberta) McCormick of rural Lewistown, two grandsons, Michael (Tracy) McCormick of Cuba, and John (Bridget) McCormick of Macomb, five great grandchildren, Mason McCormick, Maddie McCormick, Johnny Hiel, Jaxon Hiel, and Easton Sullivan.

Gerald was a WW 2 Army veteran serving from 1941-1945. He retired in 1981 after 36 years as an auto mechanic, working at Bader Motor Company, Art and Gene’s Chevrolet, and Gene Wrestler Chevrolet. He was a member of the Orlando Crowthers, and American Legion Post 16 in Canton.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown, with Pastor Doug Krukewitt officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery with military rites accorded by Lewistown VFW Post 5001 and American Legion Bishop Post 1. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ipava Ball Park. Lila Bernice Little


CANTON- Lila Bernice Little, 84, of Canton, passed away at 9:37 AM on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Graham Hospital. She was born on April 5, 1932 in Fulton County, Illinois a daughter of Chester D. and Jessie M. Loveland Rilea. She married Richard Little Sr. on October 6, 1954 in Canton. He preceded her in death on June 22, 1988. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son, Richard Little Jr., and two brothers, Robert V. and Delbert D. Rilea.

Surviving are one daughter, Rebecca Sue (Steven) Rothert; one daughter-in-law, Lois Little; two brothers, Willis L. (Betty) Rilea, James E. (Jacqi) Rilea all of Canton; two sisters, Doris E. Hand of Florida, Bonnie L. Owens of Galesburg, also surviving are seven  grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Lila worked as a housekeeper at Graham Hospital in Canton for many years; she was a member of Monterey United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, where visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, June 14, 2016. Rev. Robert O. Siedel


Norris – Robert O. Siedel, 97, of Norris passed away 9:45 pm Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at Farmington Country Manor in Farmington.  He was born on May 19, 1919 in Peoria, IL to Albert S. and Ethel B. (Cluts) Siedel.  Bob married Virginia Ruth Mitchell on November 2, 1940 in Palmyra, MO.  She survives along with two children; Jack (Sara) Siedel of Knoxville and Sharon (late Russell) Schrodt of Canton, six grandchildren, and eighteen great-grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Clarence G. Siedel, and John A. Diefenbach and one sister Letha M. Johnson.
Bob worked at the Ohio River Company for 34 years, retiring in 1988.  He was a Past Master of Fairview Lodge #350, Past High Priest of Canton Royal Arch Chapter #68, Retired Lieutenant of Norris Fire Department, member of Scottish Rite in Peoria, member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Canton, and was an avid Chicago White Sox’s fan.  Bob was a WW2 Navy veteran where he served as an Aviation Ordnance man.

Ray E. Pascal Jr


Lewistown- Ray Edmond Pascal Jr; 88, of Lewistown, passed away peacefully at 9:47 AM Monday June 6, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving wife and family.

Ray was born April 4, 1928 at Lewistown , the son of Ray Edmond and Jessie Bell (Grigsby) Pascal Sr. He married Josephine (Jane) Hough on August 9, 1947 at Palmyra, MO. She survives with four children, Susan (Dennis) Weaver of Canton, Vicki ( Bob, deceased) Irwin of Lewistown, Kimberly (Ron Lawver) Pascal of Lewistown, and Max David (Jodi) Pascal of Winnebago, IL; 10 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and a special little friend named Clark. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, George Pascal, 3 sisters, and 2 brothers.

Ray retired in 1984 from Caterpillar Tractor in East Peoria after 31 years of service. He was an avid Cubs and Bears fan. Go Cubbies ! The family would like to extend a special thanks to Terri, his caregiver, Lauren, his nurse, and Beacon of Hope Hospice.

Services will be held at 3:00 PM Friday at the Lewistown Church of the Nazarene, where visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Pastor Randy Munson and Jayson Herrick will officiate. James Hunter Jr


Lewistown- James Hunter Jr., 77, of Lewistown passed away at 3:15 PM Saturday June 4, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born December 22, 1938 at rural Lewistown the son of James Sr. and Madelon (Puckett) Hunter. He married Louise Hall February 28, 1960 at Bryant. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Carla (Mike) Edwards of Lewistown and Jimelle (Rick) Southard of Bryant, four grandchildren, Rachel (Rich) Valukas of Plymouth, WI; Derek Edwards of Lewistown, Joseph (fiancée Sammi Cox) Southard of St. David, and Rickie Jo Southard of Bryant, two great grandsons, Douglas and Logan Valukas, two half-brothers, Robert Stutes of Colorado, and Andrew Stutes Jr. of Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and one sister.

Jim graduated from Lewistown Community High School in 1957. He worked for the Ohio River Company from 1958-1966 and then retired from Caterpillar in 1996. Jim served in the U.S. Army at Fort Knox, Kentucky from 1962-1964. He was a member of the Lewistown United Methodist Church and their GROM Group “Grumpy Retired Old Men” and the UAW Local 974.

Cremation will be accorded. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday at the Lewistown United Methodist Church with Reverend Deryck Sonaram officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at Lewistown where military services will be conducted by the Lewistown VFW Post 5001 and the Lewistown American Legion Bishop Post 1. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Graham Hospital Hospice or Lewistown United Methodist Church Food pantry.
