Newell Ann (Fleming) Wahlfeld, 84, of Manito, passed away at 1 pm. on Friday, April 24 2026 at The Lodge in Manito . She was born on November 24, 1941 in rural Topeka, Illinois to Melvin Eugene and Lucetta Alzina (Guile) Fleming. She married Eldon Duane Wahlfeld on March 17, 1963 at St. John Lutheran Church in Topeka. He preceded her in death on August 8, 2025.
Newell is survived by sons, Dale (Jody) Wahlfeld of Forest City and Gary Wahlfeld of Lewistown; grandson, James (Gabby) Wahlfeld of South Pekin.; and sister, Laura Fleming of Manito, brother Merle Fleming (Sue) of Havana. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers James and Robert Fleming, sister Barbara, and infant sibilings Bessie, Marjorie, and Larry.
Newell was a graduate of the class of 1959 from Forman High School in Manito. She was a homemaker and loved gardening , cooking and canning. She had waitressed at Bee’s, Mama Green’s, and the railroad restaurant in Havana.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana, with a visitation one hour prior to the service from time until time. Burial will follow the service at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana.
