Winifred was born on March 10, 1922, to Mattie and Thomas Maxey. She graduated from Covington High School in Covington, Indiana, in 1940, and later from Peoria Business College in 1942. On May 28, 1944, she married Rex L. Horney, who preceded her in death.
She worked as a bookkeeper until her retirement and was a dedicated volunteer in the United Methodist church in each community in which she lived, as well as with the United Way, Reach for Recovery, and the American Cancer Society.
She is survived by her daughters, Lynne (George) Jensen and Nancy (Steven) Davis; grandsons, Erik (Laura) Davis and Alex (Joni) Davis; and five great-grandchildren, James, Luke, Finn, Jacob, and Juliana.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rex; her parents; and her siblings, Carlin, Norma, P.K., Sally, Delores, and Floyd.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery in Monmouth, IL.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at the United Methodist Church of Elmwood, IL, on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. Food and fellowship will immediately follow at the church.
Memorials may be left to The United Methodist Church of Elmwood or Smithshire United Methodist Church.
