He was born on September 7, 1952 in Canton to Maurice Eugene and Shirley Anne (Dubois) Phillips Sr. They preceded him in death.
He previously was married to Denise Howe. She survives.
Also surviving is one son Adam (Melissa) Phillips of Maquoketa, IA, one step son, Jeremiah (Sarah) Phillips whom he raised, brothers, Cliff (Val) Phillips, Ed (Lisa Sheppard) Curoe, Dave (Tammie King) Phillips, sisters, Lisa Turner, Lenise Phillips-Nelson, grandchildren, Chase, Ian, Jaxon, Jace, Diane, Xoei, Logan and great grandchildren, Ollie, Jaxon, Greysen, Ashlynn and Adalynn.
Gene was the manager at Mr Sweeper in Canton for 25 years and later retired from Lincare Oxygen Delivery Service in Peoria. Gene was well known as an accomplished guitar player playing with the bands, Cherokee, Legends, Fitz, Culpepper and Gene and the Push Rods. He owned and operated the Prairie Peddler antique store in Canton.
Cremation rites will be accorded with Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory in Canton. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
