Mary Jane Brooks

Mary Jane Brooks, 82 of Cuba, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side. Her family is assured that she is pain free and celebrating in heaven.


She was born January 30, 1941 at Industry, the daughter of Lyman and Marcella (Lawson) Roberts. She married Ira William “Bill” Brooks on December 20, 1959 at Smithfield. He survives with three children, Ronald (Jennifer) Brooks of Havana, Kathleen Brooks of London Mills, and Terry (Maggie) Brooks of Cuba, ten grandchildren, Jason (Nicole) Brooks of Elberta, AL; Jessica (Marc) Huddleston of Peoria, Nicholas (Lindsey) Lindsey of Cuba, Kristen Martin of Bellville, Kayleen Tarter of Canton, Griffin Brooks of Cuba, Garrett Brooks of Cuba, Andrew Brooks of Havana, Benjamin Brooks of Havana, and Colton Brooks of Havana, six great grandchildren, Austyn and Baylie Huddleston, Luke, Liam, and Leia Lindsey, and Korbin Brooks, three brothers, Gary Roberts of Fairview, David Roberts of Canton, and Rick Roberts of Smyrna, DE. She was preceded in death by her parents, one infant daughter, Debra Kay Brooks, and three siblings, Shirley Miller, Jimmy Roberts, and Mike Roberts.


Mary Jane was a member of Brock United Methodist Church in Smithfield where she held many offices in the church including the church choir, United Methodist Women, youth group leader, and pastor parish chairman. She enjoyed many years of riding her horses including trail riding with her family and friends. She enjoyed crafts and making ceramics, and always had a puzzle that she was working on. Mary Jane helped her husband on the family farm and also ran two businesses during her lifetime, Sweaters and More, and was an avid Precious Moments collector which lead to owning Whydes Haus in Canton. She and her daughter enjoyed years of Precious Moments activities including having the artist Sam Butcher make an appearance at her store. She was also a huge Disney fan and would go to Disney almost every year with her husband, and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with her entire family for a week.


Services will be held at 10 am Saturday January 27, 2024 at Brock United Methodist Church with Pastor Ellen Dodd officiating. Visitation will be held Friday January 26, 2024 from 5-7 pm at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba. Burial will be at Baughman Cemetery at rural Smithfield.
