She was born on September 21, 1934 in Alexis, IL the daughter of Robert and Irene (Gebhart) Swanson. She married Terry N. Rogers on August 3, 1957 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on November 7, 1985. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Cletus Swanson, and four sisters, Bertha Dublo, Doris Spence, Pauline Brown, and Carolyn Potts. Surviving are two sons, Bryan (Toni) Rogers of Snellville, GA, Marc (Julie) Rogers of Lewistown, two granddaughters, Stefanie Rogers of Lewistown, and Sara (Gavin) BordenKircher of Hanna City, two great grandchildren, Brynn Bordenkircher, and Braylen Bordenkircher, and a dear friend, Sonya Baldwin of Lewistown.
Barb graduated from Alexis High School in 1952 and Western Illinois University in 1956. She was a teacher at Lewistown Community High School for many years where she also coached girls’ volleyball for 21 years with a record of 412-115. She was an active member of the Girls Athletic Association and paved the way for girls’ sports in Lewistown. She started Lewistown’s volleyball program in 1974. She was also very involved and a member of the Illinois Street Christian Church in Lewistown. Barb loved spending time with her family, watching sports, playing cards, and socializing with friends and former students at Dairy Queen.
Services will be held at 11am Monday October 30, 2023 at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Pastor Brant Reed officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Galesburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the Illinois Street Christian Church or the Lewistown Volleyball Program.
