Richard "Dick" Lee McKown

Brimfield – Richard “Dick” Lee McKown, 70, passed away Friday, January 13, 2023, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL.

Richard was born April 11, 1952, in Peoria, to Duane Lee McKown and June Marie (Dodd) McKown. He married Barbara A. (Colgan) McKown on April 6, 1974, in Brimfield, IL, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. She survives, and Richard was preceded in death by his parents and two nephews.

Surviving are two children, Clint McKown and Nicole (Dave) Burgess; two grandchildren, Owen and Kinley Burgess; a special great nephew, JaKoby McKown; and siblings, Robert McKown, James (Peggy) McKown, Mary Ann Johnson, Michael (Chris) McKown, William (Ruth) McKown, Fredrick McKown, Debbie (Bob) Hare, Rodney (Barbara) McKown, Steven (Cathy) McKown, Janet (Bill) Rosecrans, and Joanne McKown. Richard is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Richard was a 1971 graduate of Brimfield High School and was a lifelong Brimfield resident and he knew no stranger. He was employed by Caterpillar for 30 years before retiring in 2002.

Dick was an avid and skilled hunter and fisherman his entire life, and he truly enjoyed being outdoors, especially spending lots of time on his property just outside of Brimfield. Richard loved his family with all of his heart, and he thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Dick also loved spending time with his great nephew, JaKoby, and watching him participate in sporting events.

A memorial Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Kickapoo (9910 W. Knox St., Edwards, IL, 61528) on Saturday, February 18, 2023, followed by a “Celebration of Life” at the Brimfield American Legion (121 W. Knoxville St., Brimfield, IL, 61517.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made towards memorial masses in Richard’s honor at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Kickapoo, IL.
