He was born on September 24, 1938 in Richmond, IN to John P and Eleanore (Scheibler) Van Zant.
He married Linda Nott on June 19, 1965 in Fairview. She preceded him in death on October 29, 2019.
Surviving are her children, John (Roberta) Van Zant of Morton, Beth (Eric) Sebree of Lewistown, five grandchildren, Ella, Asher, Levi Van Zant, Elyssa (Curt) Ferguson, Ethan Sebree and one sister, Sharon Adams of Fort Worth, TX.
John served in the U.S. Navy. He later worked for International Harvester and lastly retired in 1999 from the U.S. Post Office. He was a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church in Canton. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish and hunt. He also loved the Chicago Bears. Most of all he loved his grandkids and supporting them in their sporting events.
A visitation will be held on Monday, January 30, 2023 from 5-7 pm at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton.
Cremation rites will follow the visitation and a funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at 10 am at the funeral home with a burial of the ashes immediately following at the Fairview Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to 1st Presbyterian Church.
