Smithfield- Eldon R. ”Bob” Abbott, 95, of rural Smithfield passed away at 10:43 AM Thursday January 26, 2023 at Graham Hospital in Canton.
He was born November 28, 1927 in Fulton County the son of Arthur and Nina (Baughman) Abbott. He married Mary Louise Negley on May 31, 1952 at Smithfield. She survives along with four sons, Marty (Marilyn) Abbott of Crossville, TN; Bruce (Candie) Abbott of Smithfield, David (Carol) Abbott of Mackinaw, and Charles (Cindi) Abbott of Smithfield, ten grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister.
Bob was a lifelong farmer. He sold Pioneer seed for 23 years. He served in the US military during WWII, and the Korean War. He was a member of the Brock United Methodist Church in Smithfield. He was also a member of the Fulton County Farm Bureau, Cuba Lodge AF&AM 534, Odd Fellows Lodge in Fiatt, Macomb Prairieland Barbershop Chorus, and the Shaw Creek Golf Course in Bushnell.
Cremation will be accorded. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday February 3rd at the Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba. Burial will follow services at Fiatt Cemetery. Visitation will be held two hours prior to services at the memorial home. Pastor Ellen Dodd will officiate the services. Memorial contributions may be made to Brock United Methodist Church.
