Barbara Ann Metzger

Barbara Ann Metzger, 85, of Tallula, IL passed away at her home on January 1, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was born on October 21, 1937, in Springfield, IL to Edward Sr. and Julia (Marcus) Hostick. She married Ben L. Metzger on June 4, 1953, in Hillsboro, IL. He preceded her in death on May 12, 2015.


Barbara is survived by one brother, Edward (Mickey) Hostick Jr. of Loudon, TN; her children, Barbara L. (Mark) Troxell of Havana, Robin Baughman of Lincoln, Christy (James) Crawford of Williamsville, Wade Metzger, and Wendy (Dale Wayne) Connor, both of Tallula; her grandchildren, Heather O’Brien, Nathan Baughman, Nicole Sievers, Rachel Morgan, Christy Troxell Thomas, Kurt Phillip Connor, Casey Connor, Emma Crawford, Kirk Benjamin Metzger, Trent Metzger, Cam Metzger; her great grandchildren, Emily, Easton, Gavin, Grady, Linden, Carter, Tinley, Gage, Lindsey, Natalie, Matthew, Spencer, Quinten, Miles, Liam, Sierra, Novalea, Levi, Ashley, Arynn, Kyle, Kaylin, Tyler, Jade, Hank; and one great-great grandchild, Kaylon. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one son, Clinton L. Metzger.

Barbara attended the Feitshans High School and was a self-employed Housekeeper and Homemaker. She was always busy with her grandchildren, loved hummingbirds, flower gardening, cooking, and reading. She was an excellent seamstress, an artist, and a very loving mother who always helped her children through years of 4-H. When her children would come home from school, she always had hot chocolate and cookies waiting for them. Barbara also enjoyed watching and feeding her birds and observing nature.

Per Barbara’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and a celebration of life will be held at a later date in May of 2023. Memorials may be made to the VFW Post 6871 in Petersburg or Menard County Animal Control. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.hurleyfh.com.
