Joan Marshall

Joan (Howe) Marshall, 54, of Havana, Illinois, passed away at her home on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was born on January 2, 1969, to Lyle and Viola Howe, and was the fifth of six children. She married Steve Marshall on April 5, 2005, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Joan is survived by her husband of 17 years, Steve Marshall of Havana, and children Sydney Marshall of Thayer, IL, and Zachary Marshall of Havana. Also surviving are her parents Lyle and Viola Howe of Havana; siblings Larry Howe of Havana, Jan (Jack) O'Bryant of Canton, MO, Joyce (Randy) Fairow of Easton, IL, and Janie (Jason) Jones of Table Grove, IL; and nieces and nephews, Christopher Boggs, Jill (Kyle) Cookingham, Clint (Johanna) O'Bryant, Jett Jones, and Jada Jones. She was preceded in death by her infant brother Garry Howe.
Joan graduated from Havana High School in 1987 and later from Spoon River College and Graham School of Nursing. Joan served as the Director of the Senior Advantage program at Mason District Hospital in Havana and dedicated over 30 years to a career in healthcare, to which she was very passionate. She enjoyed spending time with her family, going on camping trips, and volunteering with her son's Boy Scouts Troop. She was a devoted lover of animals. Joan delighted in playing board games and card games, decorating for every holiday, and enjoyed any opportunity to gather with family and friends. She will be remembered for her laugh and her smile.
The family would like to express deep gratitude to Joan's friends and colleagues at Mason District Hospital and Havana United Methodist Church for the loving care and support they provided in Joan's final weeks.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 15, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana, with funeral services immediately following. Rev. Carol Stufflebeam will officiate. Cremation rites have been accorded. Online condolences can be left for her family at www.hurleyfh.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Senior Advantage program at Mason District Hospital.
