John Shaw

Cuba - John G. Shaw, 94, of Cuba, passed away at 3:29 PM Tuesday April 21, 2015 at Graham Hospital.

He was born September 22, 1920 at Tolley, North Dakota, the son of Joseph and Annie (Hardy) Shaw. He married Betty J. McCann on March 7, 1952 at Bushnell. She preceded him in death on November 25, 2005. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one infant son, one infant daughter, three brothers, Robert, James, and Joseph Shaw, and two sisters, Margaret Shaw, and Mary Rakestraw. Surviving is one daughter, Susan A. Shaw of Cuba, and one sister, Thelma Clark of Canton.

John was a coal miner for 42 years for Truax Traer and Consolidation Coal Companies before retiring in 1981. He was a WW 2 Navy Coast Guard veteran, and a 62 year member of the Cuba American Legion. He was a member of St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Canton, UMWA Local 7110, and had worked with the Civil Conservation Corp.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 PM Saturday at Cuba Cemetery with military rites conducted by his Cuba American Legion Post. There will be no visitation.
