Delano Miller

Delano “Del” F. Miller, 82 of Canton, passed away at 1:50 pm Thursday, April 2, 2015 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.  He was born on May 19, 1932 in Canton to Floyd “Don” and Katherine (VanWinkle) Miller.  Del married Ethel Morse September 9, 1961 in Middlegrove, IL.  She survives along with 2 children; Glen (Crystal) Miller of Glasford, and Anetta (Rick) Downing of Canton, 3 grandchildren; Keri Sue Miller of Chicago, Derek Downing and Alyssa Downing both of Canton, and a sister Elizabeth Hobson of Springfield.  He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters.
Del retired from Caterpillar Inc. after 31 years of service and was a full time farmer his entire life.  He was a 50 year member of Lancaster Masonic Lodge in Glasford, Scottish Rite in Peoria, and Mohammed Shrine in Peoria.  He was a US Army veteran serving during the Korean War from 1952- 1954.  He was a member of the American Legion in Bartonville, and last September with his son went on the Honor Flight.  Del lived in the Banner area all his life and loved to fish and hunt. He endured the St. Louis Cardinals at the strong request of his wife Ethel.  They enjoyed several cruises together. Del loved to spend time with his neighbors and family.
Services will be 11 am Tuesday, April 7 at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home in Canton.  The Rev. Rick Atchley will officiate.  Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Monday, April 6 at the Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in Shields Chapel Cemetery in Rural Canton with Military Honors.  Memorials can be made to Spoon River College Diesel Mechanics Program.  To make online condolences you can go to www.sedgwickfuneralhomes.com
