Also surviving are his children, Steve (Kelly) Downs of Elmwood; Jennifer (Matt) McKenzie of Cedar City, Utah; seven grandchildren, Trey (Kristen) Downs, Allen (Amber) Downs, Mallory (Ian) Foster, Brent Downs, Jason Downs, Lucas McKenzie, Aaron McKenzie; six great-grandchildren, Owen Downs, Ellie Downs, Charlotte Foster, Ruby Foster, Teddy Foster, Evelyn Downs, and one sister, Jane (Larry) Wages of Canton.
Preceding John in death were his parents, one son, John Downs Jr., one brother, Thomas Downs, and one sister, Betty Shaw.
John worked and retired after 30 years of service, from Caterpillar as a Heavy Equipment Operator, and from the Canton School District #66, as a Custodian, after 10 years of service. He was avid hunter, fisherman, and he enjoyed shooting clays, woodworking, and tinkering. He served his country in the United States Navy in the reserves from 1960 to 1966, and in active service from 1962 to 1964.
