She was born January 18, 1923 at Smithfield, the daughter of Charles W. and Ila (Voyles) Martin. She married Woodrow Welch on February 28, 1943 at Jackson, MS. He died October 3, 1986. She was also preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and three sisters. Survivors include three children, Robert Welch of Cuba, Gloria (Greg) Towles of Peoria, and Dan (Rita) Welch of Smithfield, four grandchildren, Michael, Joshua, Jacob, and Joseph, and four great grandchildren, Gracie, Bobby, Piper, and Billy.
Fran was a homemaker and had also worked at the former Welch Hardware Store in Smithfield. She was a member of the Smithfield Church of the Nazarene where she served on the church choir. She was a past member of the “Sweet Adeline’s” and the “Mellow Dears”. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and a huge college basketball fan.
Cremation will be accorded and a graveside service will be held at 11 am Saturday April 13, 2024 at Baughman Cemetery with Pastor Dean Potts officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fulton County Humane Society. Condolences may be made at henrylange.com
