Jimmy grew up in Tempe, Arizona and attended Tempe High School. One of his favorite memories growing up was working at the infamous Legend City Amusement Park.
Jim is remembered for his quick wit, sparkling personality and funny sense of humor. He was able to light up a room and bring cheer to everyone around him. Jim enjoyed singing karaoke and had a beautiful baritone voice. Angels (and his sister Wendy) would cry when they heard him sing. Jim was a huge cat lover. In fact, he wanted to make sure his cat, Newt, was always fed before he fed himself.
Jim married Missy Guppy on November 3, 2007 who preceded him in death.
Jim was also preceded in death by his father, James Donald Toombs and step mother, Patricia Ann Weymouth. He is survived by his mother and step father, Wilma and Harold Chappel; siblings, Wendy (Frank) Wasson, Vicki Vanhorn, Ruth Kongas, Steve (Elizabeth) Wayman, Kevin Chappel, and Janet (Robert) Rice; sister in law, Brandi Sale; nieces and nephews, Brenda Cranson, Dax Hoover, Christopher Hoover, Mick Hoover, James Conti, Brandy Swinehart-Bartlett, Heather Kelson, Kalika Kongas, Austin Wayman, Jazmin Wayman, Matt Chappel, Keith Chappel, Erica Ashwood, Steffani Klontz, Olivia Rice, Sadie Sale and Shelbi Sale.
Cremation rites have been accorded by Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory in Canton. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Fulton County Humane Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.
Jim’s presence will be profoundly missed, but his memory will continue to be a beacon of warmth and joy for all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
