Melba J. Markley

Melba J. Markley, 95 of Cuba, passed away at 1:14 am Tuesday May 14, 2024 at her home.


She was born April 13, 1929 at Peoria. She married Robert L. Markley on July 18, 1946. He died June 13, 2000. She was also preceded in death by two sons, John and Dan Markley, and two daughters, Ethel Mosher and Roberta Sarff. Survivors include five children, James L. (Michelle) Markley of Cuba, Pam Hedden of Ellisville, Sharon (Junior) Trone of Canton, Brenda Suydam of Cuba, and Judy (Kevin) Leasman of Cuba, several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.


Melba was a homemaker and a member of the Cuba American Legion Auxiliary.

Helen L. Lehnhausen

Fairview- Helen L. Lehnhausen, 86, of Fairview, passed away at 12:50 AM on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville. She was born on August 3, 1937 in Canton, a daughter of George and Rosie (Wages) Cowden. She married Dale “Bud” Lehnhausen on December 8, 1956 in Fairview. He preceded her in death on April 14, 2023.


Also preceding her in death were her parents, brothers, George, Wally, Allen; sisters, Pauline, Betty, Doris; and son-in-law, Mike Watters.


Surviving Helen is her children, Becky (Late Mike) Watters of Ellisville; Dale (Colleen) Lehnhausen Jr. of London Mills; seven grandchildren, Melissa (Jake) Morey, Amber (Jayson) Waughtel, Beau Lehnhausen , Skye (Jarod) Ehens, Summer (Troy) Kisner, Kati (John Vanfleet) Gray, Ashley Lamb; great-grandchildren, Tanner (Hanna) Watters, Tucker Watters, Taylor, and Calliegh Morey, Teigan, Nylah Kisner, Cambria, Wrenna, and Cora Ehens, Zeke Gray, Laken Vanfleet, Tyson and Preston Waughtel, and two great-great-grandchildren, Waylon Watters, one on the way, and several nieces and nephews.


Helen enjoyed cooking as she would feed all her kids and their friends, sewing, painting, camping, being with her grandkids, as she attended all of their sporting events, crafts of all kinds, playing cards, gambling doing puzzles, and being a den mother for the cub scouts.

Eileen Yocum

Eileen Yocum age 95 passed away at 12:26 am May 13, 2024 in Columbia, Missouri. She was born in Canton, Illinois February 17, 1929 to Archie Merit Yocum and Mabel Fern (Boyer) Yocum. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Delbert W. Yocum, sisters Zelma Matejewski and Bernice Hubbs Brunkow. She was also preceded in death by her nephews Stephen L. Yocum, Michael A Matejewski, John R. Hubbs, and niece Christina A. (Kris) Yocum.

Surviving are 5 nephews and nieces Randolph (wife Trixi) Yocum, William S. Matejewski, Angelika (husband Christopher) Antoni, Patricia (husband Mark Ellis) Yocum, and Sandra Schultz. Also, grand nieces and nephews, Sawyer and Jonathan Antoni, Brian and Jennifer Yocum, Syd and Simon Ellis, Ian and Eric Yocum, Paul and John Hubbs Jr., Susan Hubbs Sharrock, and Cody and Dallas Schultz. Also, great-grand nieces and nephews Alexa Yocum, Cooper and Chloe Schultz, Arwen and Alexis Sharrock, and Paige Ortega.

She graduated from Canton High School in 1947, and was employed by the National Bank of Canton (now Mid-America National) from June 6, 1947 to March 29, 1991, retiring as an Assistant Vice President. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 20, 2024 11 am, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton where a visitation will be held one hour prior.

Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Cantonl.

Janice K. Roberts

Janice K. Roberts, 73, of Augusta, IL, passed away at 4:22 pm on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at her home. She was born on May 5, 1951 in Canton, IL, the daughter of Mark and Edith (Curless) Stambaugh.


Survivors include her daughter; Jodi (and Brad) Ballas of Plymouth, IL, two sons; Jeremy (and Keshia) Heaton of Augusta and Corey (and Constance) Roberts of Plymouth, seven grandchildren; Kaylee (and Eric) Ussery, Sydnie Ballas, Jaise Heaton, Jerik Heaton, Bryson Roberts, Bryleigh Roberts and Hailie Heaton, four great-grandchildren; Brogen Ballas, Eli Ussery, Arlo Ussery and Irlee Ussery, and special friend; Bobby Logan of Blandinsville, IL.

She is preceded in death by her parents, son; Jeff Heaton, grandson; Ian Ballas, and two brothers; Charles and Raymond Stambaugh.

Janice worked at Walmart in Macomb, IL for thirty years, serving as store manager at one time.

Her family was the love of her life along with her dog, Poppy. She loved family gatherings and traveling with her family.

Wanda Louise Bollinger, age 93, of Stover, MO, formerly of Canton, IL; passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, St Mary's Hospital in Jefferson City, Missouri.


She was born on April 13, 1931, in Washington, D.C. a daughter of Eli and Helen (Montgomery) Fletcher.


Wanda is survived by her four children Monica Butler of Stover, Missouri, Mona Sandefur and husband Lewis of Camdenton, Missouri, JR Jenkins and wife Marcia of Wichita, Kansas, and Tina Jenkins and wife Jamie Henderson of Camdenton, Missouri; her nine grandchildren; her nine great-grandchildren; her fur baby Brody; and many other relatives and many friends.


Wanda was preceded by her parents Eli and Helen Fletcher; her brother Vernon Eli Fletcher (Casey); and a grandson Troy G. Davis. She is also preceded by Eugene Wilcoxen, Jerald C. Jenkins (Jerry), and Ora Bollinger.


Friends will be received from 11:00 am to 12:00pm on Friday, May 17, 2024, at Oak-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, IL. Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 17, 2024, at 12:00pm at Oak-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, Illinois.


Burial will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Canton, Illinois.

Charles Williams

Charles A. “Chuck” Williams, 77, of Smithfield, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at his residence.

He was born on August 18, 1946 in Canton to John and Helen (Martin) Williams.

He married Diana Orwig on September 22, 1974 in Smithfield. She survives.

Also surviving are his children, Thomas (Kim) Williams of TN, Sarah (Jared) Grzanich of Canton, Christina (Branden) Markley of Cuba, nine grandchildren, Seth, Hailey, Charlie, Willie, Lilah, Baley, Lillian, Allison and Emmett and one great grandchild, Mateo.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, John and one granddaughter, Stella.

Chuck served 2 ½ tours in Vietnam in the U.S. Marine Corp. After the service he worked for the U.S. Post office as a rural mail carrier from where he retired. He was active in the Nazarene Church in Smithfield. He was a member of the Cuba American Legion Post #533 and enjoyed hunting, fishing, attending the kids and grandkids events and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He enjoyed vacationing, especially at Silver Dollar City in Branson. Most of all Chuck was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 from 4-7, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton.

Cremation rites will follow and a funeral service will be held on Thursday, at 2pm, at the funeral home. Burial of the ashes with military services will follow at Baughman Cemetery in rural Smithfield.

James Adam Archibald

James Adam Archibald, 57, of Elmwood, passed away at 6:41 PM on Thursday, May 9, 2024 with his family by his side has gotten peace after a long battle of cancer. He was born on February 3, 1967 in Peoria, IL to Dick and Marsha (Schooley) Archibald. He married Patricia Clark on October 18, 1998 in Glasford, IL. She survives.


He is also survived by his father; three children, Nicholas Adam Archibald of Spear, IL, Shelbey Rae (Zak Stokes) Clark-Archiblad of Brimfield, IL, and Jessica Jaimes Clark-Archibald of Elmwood, IL; 4-legged son Si, a Yorkshire Terrier, those two were inseperable; and one sister, Trisha Archibald of Brimfield, IL.


He is preceded in death by his mother.


Jamie graduated from Brimfield High School in 1986. He last worked at Miller Welding in Washington, IL. James was a fan of Nascar. He loved going to the races with his daughter, Jessica who got him to a practice race this year.

Rebecca A. “Becky” White

Peoria- Rebecca A. “Becky” White, 65, of Peoria, passed away at 11:48 AM on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at Carle Health Methodist Hospital in Peoria. She was born on December 4, 1958 in Peoria, a daughter of Lester and Alberta (Stein) Bowers. She married Richard White on March 26, 1976 in Peoria. He survives.


Also surviving are her children, Leslie (Angel) Romero of Dunlap; Lester White of Peoria; three grandchildren, Nathaniel & Nicholas Romero, and Kaylee White; brothers, Tim, Tommy, Lester Jr. Bowers, Larry Parnell; sister, Georgia Robinson, and many nieces & nephews.


Preceding Becky in death were her parents, and sister, Pam Spencer.


Per Becky’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded through Endsley-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Bartonville. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Resurrection Mausoleum in Peoria. Gloria Shaffer

Gloria Shaffer died peacefully on May 10, 2024 after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.

She was born on October 8, 1948 to Leroy Jr., and Georgia “Pat” Burgett. Gloria was a graduate of VIT. She worked for many years at Graham Hospital in the billing department.

She married David Shaffer on February 4th, 1967. He preceded her in death.

Her parents and her beloved brother, Neil, also preceded her in death.

Surviving are her children, Jon (Melinda) Shaffer and Tonya Snyder. Jon’s daughters, Bryanna and Lia. Tonya’s children, Jordan, Tyler and Eleanor. As well as, Bryanna’s children, Bronson, Addalyn and Isabella.

Gloria enjoyed chatting with friends and family, trips to Walmart and car rides.

She has now been reunited with her parents and brother.

She tried her best to fight her cancer, but ultimately chose to be comfortable until her passing.

A graveside service will be held at Waterford Cemetery on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at 10:00 a.m.

Wanda Timmons

Wanda Timmons, 66, of Banner, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2024 at the OSF St. Francis Hospital in Peoria.

She was born on April 29, 1958 in Canton to Robert and Sharon (Games) Davison.

She married James Timmons on April 11, 1981 in Canton. He survives.

Also surviving are her children, Sean (Jamie) Timmons and their children, Kevin, Blake and Chase, Robert Heath, Jeremy (Michelle) Timmons and their child, Elyssa, Candida (Donald) Howell and their children, Chloe and Logan, and two nieces, Shauna and Jamie, all of Canton.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Cynthia Davison.

Wanda worked as the Clerk for Banner Township. She enjoyed fishing, hummingbirds, planting flowers and her love of animals.

A graveside funeral service will be held on, Monday May 13, 2024 at Walnut Cemetery at 10 am. There will be no visitation per her wishes.

Memorials may be made to Fulton County Humane Society.

Phyllis Jean Farr Peak

Phyllis Jean Farr Peak, 90, of Rushville, IL, passed away at 8:15 am on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at The Arbors in Quincy, IL. She was born on July 8, 1933 in McDonough County, IL, the youngest daughter of Robert Marshall and Helen Frances (Justus) Farr. Her family resided in Vermont, IL until she was 4 years of age. They then moved to a farm in Fulton County, where she attended a one-room schoolhouse, named Farr School, for six years.


They then moved to Astoria where she attended and graduated from Astoria High School and was involved in sports and music.

She married Jack Fred Peak on June 13, 1951 in Astoria. Jack preceded Phyllis in death on July 9, 2010.

Phyllis is survived by her and Jack’s six children; Brenda Shelts of Camden, IL, Brian (and Stacy) Peak of Quincy, Stephanie (and Tim) Briney of Rushville, IL, Lori (and Gareld) Ruth of Rushville, Angie (and Mike, Jr.) Dyche of Rushville, and Stacie Kuta of St. Charles, IL, 12 grandchildren; Jennifer (and Melvin) Briney, Jeff (and Jen) Shelts, Shannon (and Mike) Seneczko, Amber (and Jess) Range, Alexis (and Michael) Murk, Andria (and Gavin) Steiger, Tara (and Kyle) Lewis, Tanya (and Chad) Esther, Kaitlyn (and Justin) Bagley, Keaton (and Ellie) Dyche, Natalie Kuta, and Jason Kuta, 25 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and one niece, Kim (and Keith) Diegel of Pekin, IL.

She is also preceded by her parents and one sister; Marian Hoffman.

Phyllis was a member of the Camden Methodist Church, fifty-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a member and past president of Rushville Business and Professional Women.

She was a legal secretary for Richard Stephens, attorney, in Macomb, IL for seven years. She retired in 2015 after working for Charles A. Burton in Rushville.

Services will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, May 12, 2024 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Pastor Charla Meyers will be officiating. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Sunday. Interment will be in the Rushville Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Rushville Public Library or Snacks for Students in Rushville, IL.

Janet A. Barnes, 92, of Brooksville, Florida passed away 30 April, 2024, at Oak Hill Health and Rehabilitation Center in Brooksville.

She was born on November 17, 1931, in Canton, Illinois to Harold and Clara (Clark) Wormser.

She married Charles Robert Barnes on April 22, 1950. He preceded her in death on February 3, 2012.

Cremation rites have been accorded.

Ava Marie Williamson

Ava Marie Williamson, 95, of Trivoli, passed away at 12:30 AM on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at Farmington Village Nursing and Rehab. She was born on February 14, 1929 in Hanna City, IL to George and Bernice “Babe” (LaFollette) Stear. She married Herbert D. “Bud” Williamson on June 26, 1959 in Hanna City, IL. He preceded her in death.


She is also preceded in death by her parents; one step-son, Joe C. Williamson; and one brother, George Thomas (Viola) Stear.


She is survived by two step-children, Connie Williamson and Dan E. (Sue) Williamson; one sister, Alice B. (Don) Chitwood; niece, Dondra Chitwood; nephew, Todd Chitwood; five step-grandchildren, Chris Thurman of Wardsville, MO, Joe Williamson of Manning, SC, Jimmy Williamson of Trivoli, IL, Molly Casey of Washington, IL, and Daniel Scott Williamson of Peoria, IL; two great-nieces, Vail and Skyler Olinger; and one great-nephew, Ayrton Chitwood.


Ava worked and retired from the Peoria Journal Star. She also worked for Peoria Creamery. Ava graduated from Brown Business School. She enjoyed gardening, painting, reading, crocheting, and traveling with her husband. She also loved her dogs, Lady and Jewel.


Memorial service will be held at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Farmington, IL. Visitation will be held the same day from 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM at the funeral home. Chaplin Jordan Knight will officiate. Terri Williams

Terri Williams, 60, of Canton, passed away, Monday, May, 6, 2024, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

She was born on February 26, 1964, in Canton, to William “Bill” and Barbara (Dare) Anderson. They preceded her in death.

She is survived by her husband of 33 years, David Williams. They married on September 20, 1990.

Also surviving are four children, Tara (Tarell) Harris, Miranda (Kevin) Herren, Ian (Amber) Henderson, and Beth Williams, three brothers, Billy Anderson, Kirk (Brenda) Anderson, and Mark (Terri) Anderson, two sisters, Deb (Bill) Roberts, and Kristie (Dave) Riney, and eleven grandchildren, Alize, Nox, Cayden, Rhylend, Marley, Jude, Alice, Amelia, Odysseus, Jaidon, and Elora.

Terri worked at the previous Coleman Clinic, the Canton Daily Ledger, and lastly she worked at Farm King in Canton. She enjoyed the years her and David spent living in the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee. While living in Tennessee, she loved seeing the wild bears. She never hesitated to be as close as she could when they were around. Most of all Terri loved taking care and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and all their friends she considered her own as well.

Cremation rites will be accorded and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Michael R. Meade

Michael R. Meade, 68, of Canton, passed away Friday, May 3, 2024 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He was born on December 15, 1955 in East St. Louis, IL. to Stephen and Caroline (Nelson) Meade. He married Karen Andrews on June 27, 1987 in Canton. She survives along with two children, Trygve Meade of Canton and Mallory Meade of Springfield, IL; two brothers, Stephen Meade of Gurnee and David (Rose) Meade of Amberg, Germany; and three sisters, Mary (Rod) Williamson of Avon, Julia Meade of Dallas, TX, and Tracey (Darryl Talley) Meade of St. Louis, MO. He was predeceased by his brother Richard (Sue) Meade.


Mike worked for the City of Canton in the Public Works Department, retiring in 2014 after 24 years of service. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Canton, Past President of AFSCME Local #3535, a child advocate for CASA of Fulton County, and a volunteer with Big Brothers & Big Sisters and the Adult Literacy Program at Spoon River College. He was also a passionate supporter of blues music throughout his life, being a member of blues societies throughout the United States and Europe.


After losing his both of his parents and supporting himself until he finished high school, Mike traveled the world. He saw most of the United States, the Caribbean, the South Pacific, Nepal, Egypt, Europe, and was a member of the second group of American civilians to visit China after it reopened in the late 1970s. In 1986, he met the love of his life, Karen, married, and settled down with her and started his own family. Throughout his remarkable life, he never failed to show up for them, and where he saw opportunities to help people who needed it, especially children, he took them.


Cremation rites have been accorded through Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory in Canton.


Services will be 2 pm Saturday, May 11, 2024 at the First Christian Church in Canton, where visitation will be held 1 hour prior to services. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Canton.
