She was born March 12, 1948 at Canton, the daughter of Earl V. and Margaret (Smith) Moore. She married David R. Towery on February 15, 1970 at Lewistown. He died August 26, 2005, and she was also preceded in death by her parents. Marilyn married Patrick Welch on June 26, 2010 at Lewistown and he survives. Also surviving are two sons, Bill (Melissa) Towery of St. David, and Tom Towery of Lewistown, two granddaughters, Ariel Marilyn Towery, and Ashlyn Jay Towery both of Bloomington, two step daughters, Angela Carlile of Cedar Rapids, IA; and Elizabeth Welch of Galesburg.
Marilyn worked for 30 years at Day & Palin IGA as the Assistant Front End Manager. She was a member of the Lewistown United Methodist Church, Job’s Daughters, and Eastern Star. She enjoyed watching Illinois Basketball, and the Chicago Cubs. Marilyn was the Secretary for the Lewistown Community High School class of 1966 and she took great pride in that. She also enjoyed watching her boys and her granddaughters sporting events.
A private family graveside service and burial will be held Wednesday October 28th at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown with Pastor Shane Smith officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM Tuesday October 27th at the Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown. Memorial Contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.
