Linda Susan Rilea

Linda Susan Rilea, 76, of Canton, passed away peacefully at 7:11 p.m., on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at Graham Hospital in Canton after a battle with metastatic breast cancer. Linda was born June 28, 1950, in Canton, to Junior and Phyllis (Smith) Powell. Linda married Roy Rilea on July 20, 1968 at the Baptist Church in Canton. He preceded her in death on December 21, 2007. Linda later went on to be with her companion, Joe Slayback. He preceded her in death on May 30, 2026.

Linda is survived by two children, Lucinda (David) Hammond of Maquon, and Melinda (the late Jonathan) Shaffer of Dunfermline; one brother, Charles (Laura) Powell; four grandchildren, Kyle Taylor, Tearza Taylor, Olivia Hammand, and Kimberly Jones; and five great-grandchildren, Ann Marie Vaughn, Dawson Vaughn, Makenna Taylor, Jayden Hammond, and Mattison Jones.

Linda is also preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Rachel Rilea; one sister, Jeannette Powell; and one grandchild, Matthew Hammond.

Linda worked at Spoon River Home Health and Help at Home for many years. She loved fishing, shopping, and going out-to-eat. She also had a love for all animals. She never met a stray she didn't try to help and love.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory in Canton, with burial following at Maryville Cemetery in Bryant, IL. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Fulton County Humane Society.
