Edward “Eddie” D. Boggs of Havana, Illinois, passed away on Friday, July 3, 2026 at his home. He was born June 27, 1943 to Lester R. Boggs and Ruth Horner Tanner in Havana. Surviving are his mother, Ruth Tanner; two sons, Dean Downing of Jerseyville, Illinois and Jason Boggs of Pekin, Illinois; two daughters, Angela Boggs Longmire of Pekin, Illinois and Rebecca Boggs Flynn (Darren) of Pekin, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Jordon Ziegenbein Moore of Naylor, Missouri, Erica Ziegenbein of Pekin, Illinois, Zachary Longmire of Pekin, Illinois, Monica Ziegenbein of Holiday, Florida, Jacob Carpenter of Pekin, Illinois, and Elizabeth Carpenter of Duluth, Minnesota and nine great-grandchildren; sister, Mary (Midge) Barton of Havana; and two brothers, Terry Boggs of Havana and John Boggs of Englewood, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his father; one son, Maurice Boggs; one brother, Jerry Boggs; and one grandson, Jonathan Longmire.
Eddie was a member of the Havana Church of Christ and was baptized in 1957. He graduated high school in 1961 and then served in the Navy as a barber.
Eddie worked as a bricklayer and then a masonry contractor for 40 years: 23 of those years in Dallas, Texas.
Eddie served in the Havana Jaycees as a director and internal vice president, being awarded Jaycee of the Year in 1975. He also coached Havana Little League for 7 years in the 70’s. Eddie served 15 years on the board of directors for the 2,500 member Dallas chapter of Parents Without Partners, including two terms as their president. He was also a director on their regional board, which covered Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana, making several trips to those states to attend board meetings.
Eddie loved bowling and served two terms as president of the Garland, Texas Bowling League. He also bowled several years on the Havana Bowling League. Eddie was an avid golfer and was a member of the Singles Golf Association of Dallas for several years and was proud of the fact that he carried VIP Membership #1 at the Crane Creek Golf Course in 2005.
Eddie retired back to Havana in 2002 and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Eddie loved following the Havana Lady Ducks basketball team. For several years, he never missed a game, at home or away, both in winter and summer ball. He also attended the practices, where he would run the score board clock for them. Eddie also got to ride the team bus for years. He loved the team and they loved him. In the 2015-2016 season, the team presented him with a stadium seat, which all the players and coaches signed. He loved that. In 2016, he became a volunteer assistant coach for both the junior high and high school girl’s basketball teams. He thought that was the biggest honor that he had received in his lifetime. Then, in the 2016-2017 season, the 8th grade girls were the runners up in the state tournament and Eddie received a state medal and 3A State Coaches badge; a great memory for him. Eddie last served the committee as president of the 62644 Foundation, Inc.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the Havana Church of Christ, with a visitation one hour prior from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Pastor Bill Boyce will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana.
