She was born in Quincy, IL to David W. (Joann Bayer) Mobley, and Patricia Putnam. She is preceded in death by her mother, and sister, Ann Church.
SueEllen is survived by her husband Greg Stephenson. They shared 44 years of marriage. They were married on June 27, 1981 in Quincy, IL.
Also surviving are three children, Adrianne (Justin) Locke, Grant (Amanda) Stephenson, and Blake (Micah Casey) Stephenson, brother, David C. (Sherre) Mobley, sister, Beth (David) Prince, and six grandchildren, Violet, Clara, and Ruby Locke, and Gavin, Andie and Emmie Stephenson.
SueEllen graduated with a master’s degree from Illinois State University. She studied special education and administration.
She was a long-time educator in the Canton Union School District. She was a life time special educator and retired in 2017 as the beloved principal at Lincoln School. SueEllen was monumental in bringing Special Olympics to Canton, and she served countless years as director of K.A.R.E. Camp, a camp for individuals with special needs. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Canton, and enjoyed art, music, camping, and traveling. She will be remembered for her love of planting flowers in the spring and the farm animals she cared for, especially her alpacas. She loved going to the beach and above all SueEllen cherished spending time with her family. SueEllen always told her children on their way to school, “Remember to be a good citizen.”
A celebration of life will be held at Lincoln Elementary School on Saturday, November 15, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Following the celebration a private ceremony and burial of her ashes will take place.
SueEllen received an organ donation in 2023. To honor her memory, please consider registering as an organ donor. In lieu of flowers, memorials can also be made to the First Christian Church of Canton or the Gift of Hope Organ Donation Program.
