She was born April 16, 1931 in Havana, IL; to Henry Carl (Jack) Russell and Ruth Wanda (Lascelles) Russell. She married Morris K. Cook of Lewistown, IL; April 21, 1950 in Las Cruces, NM. He preceded her in death October 7, 2022. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother, and a sister-in-law whom she loved as a sister. Surviving are two children, Janet (Rick) Hoffman of Lewistown, and Daniel (Cathy) Cook of Troy, MO; six grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister, Carlena (Jr.) Thompson of Havana and many nieces and nephews.
Mary Ellen graduated from Havana High School in 1949 and remained lifelong friends with several of her fellow graduates. She was a member of the Lewistown VFW Ladies Auxiliary and past member of the Lewistown Mother’s Club when her children were young. In their almost seventy-three years of marriage, Morris and Mary enjoyed traveling, remodeling homes, fishing, dancing, music and their family. A devoted wife, mother and grandma, Mary was kind, humble and generous. Her arms were always open for hugs.
Cremation will be accorded. A graveside service will be held for Mary and Morris at 11:00 AM Saturday April 15, 2023 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown.
