Kermit L. Vollmar


Kermit L. Vollmar, 81, passed away Thursday, January 28, 2021, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. 

He was born on January 19, 1940, in Canton, to Howard and Margaret (Worrell) Vollmar. They preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife Sharon (Shewell) Vollmar, whom he married on December 6, 1959 at the London Mills United Methodist Church.

Also surviving are two children, David (Karen) Vollmar of Pella Iowa, and Diana Vollmar of Glacier View, Alaska, two sisters, Neva (Phil) Brown of Maquon Illinois and Jalayne Vollmar of East Galesburg Illinois and three grandchildren, Emma Vollmar of Alantic Iowa, Hannah Vollmar of Des Moines Iowa and Jacob (Katie) Vollmar of Urbandale Iowa and a special sister-in-law, Tina Stier and her family.

Also preceding him in death are two brothers, George and Virgil Vollmar and one grandson Zachary Vollmar.

Kermit farmed his whole life. He also worked at International Harvester and Consol Coal.

Kermit was a member of the Fairview Reform Church where he was a Deacon and Elder for over 40 years. He also was a leader of 4-H, a baseball coach for Fairview little league and served as Fairview Township Director. Kermit enjoyed taking care of his garden and woodworking. 

Most of all his greatest loves were for his God and Family.

A public visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 from 4-6 pm at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory in Canton.  The family will not be attending due to COVID.  Masks and social distancing will be required.

A private funeral service will be held and a burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery.  A Facebook live stream of the funeral will be held on  Thursday starting 10 am on the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory Facebook page. 

Memorials may be made to Fairview Reformed Church or Fulton County Fair.
