Eugene Sanders

Canton – Everett Eugene Sanders, 84, of Canton passed away at 10:27 a.m. on Monday, August 29, 2016, at Graham Hospital Extended Care in Canton.
He was born July 19, 1932, in Paris, IL to Lawrence O. and Barbara E. (Carter) Sanders.  He married Shirley A. Castle on June 2, 1956, in Abingdon.  She preceded him in death on November 5, 2006.
He is survived by two children, Steven C. (Cheryl) Sanders of Golden, CO and Carla J. Sanders of Canton; three brothers, Warren A. (Jean) Sanders of TN, Lawrence Dale (Beverly) Sanders of Machesney Park, and Norman L. (Renee) Sanders of GA; and three grandchildren, Christa, Courtney, and Jacob Sanders.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Karen Lou Sanders; one sister, Barbara L. Matison; two brothers, Robert L. and Harold D. Sanders; one half-sister, Dicie Louise Smith; and one half-brother, James H. Sanders.
Gene was the owner of Sanders-Hasty Insurance Agency in Canton, retiring in 1995.  He enjoyed golfing, gardening, reading, and cheering on the Chicago White Sox.  He was a member of the Canton Elks Lodge, Canton Morning Star Masonic Lodge 626, and a 50-year member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Canton.
Cremation rites have been accorded.  A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 3, 2016, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Canton, where visitation will be held one hour prior to services.  Burial of ashes will take place at a later date.
