She was born June 5, 1939, in St. David to Homer and Margaret (Lillie) Mathis. She married James E. “Jim” West on June 25, 1955. He preceded her in death on August 23, 1993.
She is survived by six children, Sheila (the late David) Gray of Lewistown, Cheryl “Sherry” (Dennis) Freesmeyer of Winchester, Randy West of Lincoln, Bill (Evelyn) West of St. David, D.J. West of Lewistown, and Jake Coulter of St. David; two brothers, Gerald (Faye) Mathis of Dunfermline and Gary (Doris) Mathis of Lewistown; one sister, Jeanette (David) Long of Farmington; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, James L. West and Terry Eugene West; one brother, Bob Mathis; one sister, Beverly Pasley; and one granddaughter, Katelyn West.
Darlene enjoyed being a mother, wife, and homemaker to her husband and six children. She loved kids and always designated herself as the “baby holder” at family get-togethers. She also enjoyed Bingo and she traveled throughout the county to play.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, August 5, 2016, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, where visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Rev. Ron Jansen will officiate. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown.
