Shirley Joan Rohrer

CANTON- Shirley Joan Rohrer, 86, of Canton, passed away at 7:30 AM on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at her residence.

She was born on August 18, 1929 in Canton, a daughter of Ralph and Ila Jones Walraven. She married Hank Rohrer on July 2, 1948 in Canton. He survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Debbie (Garry) Hensley of Cuba, one special granddaughter, Cassie Hensley of Bushnell, and three step-children, fourteen step-grandchildren.

Shirley worked all her life starting at Newberry’s in Canton, then retiring as a cafeteria worker for Canton School District #66 after 50 years of service.

She was loved by many for her laugh, great personality, and love of life. Shirley loved kids, everyone called her grandma including the kids at school and Cassie’s basketball team, whom she loved to watch. Her and Hank met at Silver Leaf Roller Rink and continued to skate for many years. They also loved to take bus trips and travel, and she loved Elvis and had a huge collection.

Shirley will be greatly missed by all; she is now at peace and in no pain, but now is with her family and  little brother Jack, who she couldn’t wait to see.

May God rest her soul, she was of the Christian faith.

Funeral services will be Monday, March 28, 2016 at 12:00 PM at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home in Canton, where visitation will be 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Canton.
