He was born in Peoria, on May 25, 1934, to Delmas and Margaret (Broaddus) Pettett. They preceded him in death as well as a son Doug Pettett and brother, Chuck (Joyce) Pettett.
Wilbur is survived by his wife of 53 years, Vicki (Deushane) Pettett, they were married on November 10, 1972.
Also surviving are three sons, Danny (Kim) Pettett, Duane Pettett, and Timothy Overcash, two daughters, Tammy (Lisa) Overcash, and Tanya Bolger, daughter in law, Wendy Pettett, ten grandchildren, Justin (Alisha), Danielle (T.J.), Dylan, Aaron, Bryce, Brandon (Jamie), Drew (Jennie), Chance (Hannah) Austin and Nathan, and fourteen great grandchildren.
Wilbur retired from CILCO in Farmington after 38 years of dedicated service as a lineman. A faithful and active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, he generously gave countless hours volunteering at the food pantry and preparing and serving meals in the parish hall. He was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, where he was honored to serve as Grand Knight, and Faithful Navigator. As well as a 50 year member of the Farmington Moose, and Canton Elk’s Lodge.
Wilbur was very devoted to Vicki, his family and was always involved in his children’s activities, from Boy Scouts to Little League. He enjoyed golfing and bowling with Vicki and spent many years helping her family on the farm. In his spare time, he found joy in gardening, playing cards, and sharing laughter and conversation with friends. Above all, Wilbur treasured the time he spent with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren, who brought him endless pride and happiness.
A visitation will be held at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton on Saturday, May 23, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m., a funeral procession will follow to St. Mary’s Catholic Church where Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 noon.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Food Pantry.
