She was born June 25, 1936 at Canton, the daughter of Earl and Annabell (Fraley) Ashwood. She married Marvin Henderson on November 22, 1956 at Canton. He survives with her children, Michael (Roberta) Henderson of Smithfield, Timothy (Valarie) Henderson of Pevely, MO; Lila (Jim) Kline of Andalusia, and Ellen (Michael) Gasser of LaHarpe, seven grandchildren, Nathan and Sarah Henderson, Daniel Mayall, Julia and Joshua Henderson, Stephanie Kline-Tissi, and Rachael Kline, eight great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, one brother Robert (Betty) Ashwood of Smithfield, and one sister, Linda Smith of Cuba. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and three sisters.
Hazel had worked at a coal mine and later worked at the former Day & Palin IGA and the former Smithfield Market. She enjoyed playing cards, reading, bowling, bird watching, and her flower gardens. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 am Monday March 10, 2025 at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba with Pastor Mike Arnett officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday from 3-5 pm at the memorial home. Burial will be in Henderson Cemetery at rural Cuba. Memorial contributions may be made to any charity of the Donor’s choice.
