Harry worked 4 ½ years at Hiram Walkers Distillery while attending Bradley University. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1969. That same year, he began his 36 year teaching career, teaching 22 years at Williamsfield Jr. High, and 14 years at Elmwood Jr. High. In 1973, Harry was awarded the Outstanding Elementary Teacher of America Award. Harry absolutely loved teaching history and coaching. One of his proudest moments was coaching the Elmwood ‘81-82’ JV Boys Basketball team to an undefeated 21-0 season.
Harry was loved by many and known for his great sense of humor. He enjoyed visiting and reliving stories with friends and former students. Harry was a Christian who exercised his faith at Crossroads Assembly of God. He believed the Bible is the Holy Word of God and the only way to God is through Jesus Christ. John 14:6- I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
There will be an open house Celebration of Life at the Yates City Community Center for Harry on Saturday, March 29, 2025, from 12:00-5:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Claude Keefer scholarship fund. This scholarship goes to the Elmwood High School Industrial Arts scholarship.
