Darlene was born April 13, 1936 at her family farm near London Mills the daughter of Hershel and Fern (Kepple) Cook. She married Robert F. Clayberg before numerous family and friends on September 16, 1956 at the First Christian Church in Abingdon. Robert passed away one month earlier on February 7, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and two sisters. She is survived by three children, Jeff Clayberg of Macomb, Patrick (Brian Suver) Clayberg of Chicago, and Denise Clayberg of Macomb, two grandchildren, Jarod (Shanell) Clayberg of Wisconsin, and Rachel (Todd) Sheets of Mahomet, IL. Six great grandchildren, Aria, Aubrey, and Easton Sheets of Mahomet, and Jurnee, Emerie, and Lynley Clayberg of Wisconsin. Five nieces and five nephews also survive. Her remaining brother, Ronald Cook, is a resident of Palm Springs, CA.
Darlene received her cosmetology degree from the International Beauty Academy in Canton and operated Darlene’s Beauty Salon in Cuba for several years during the 1970’s. She was a homemaker, a member of the Cuba Christian Church and the Cuba American Legion Auxiliary. Darlene, along with her husband Robert, enjoyed dancing, camping and fishing. She loved to crochet and was a wonderful cook. She was frequently asked to provide food and especially pies for the Cuba Christian Church’s dinners. Darlene was an avid supporter and attendee of both her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s sporting competitions, dance recitals and special events.
Cremation has been accorded. A visitation will be held, prior to burial, Thursday March 13th from 11:00 am until 12 pm at the Cuba Christian Church sanctuary followed by a graveside service at 12:15 pm at the Cuba Cemetery with Pastor Mike Arnett officiating.
