Jimmie M. Barrett

Jimmie M. Barrett, 77, of Havana passed away at 12:50 a.m. on Monday, February 19, 2024 at Mason District Hospital in Havana. He was born on September 6, 1946 in Baltimore, Maryland to Ardee and Maxine Barrett. He married Marcia Stone on August 14, 1976 in Havana and she preceded him in death on August 17, 2011.

Jimmie is survived by his son, Jimmie (Hillary) Barrett of Havana; daughters, Lori (Brad) Hull and Tammie Lowman; grandsons, Max Barrett, Bradley (Morgan) Hull, and Neil Embry; granddaughter, Kelci (Zeke) Kennett; and several great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings, A. Kelly Barrett and Dee Ann Smith; aunt, Bonnie Farwell; and in-laws, Logan and Linda Tracy. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and daughter, Joanna Embry.
Jimmie graduated from Woodlawn High School in Baltimore, Maryland. He was a member of the U.S. Army and served his country in the Vietnam War. He was also a member of the Izaak Walton League and Local 231. He retired from Havana Park District as Superintendent of Parks and Grounds. Prior to that, he was a Laborer for Local 231 and worked at the coal docks in Havana. Jim enjoyed watching his grandson, Max, play sports. He also enjoyed fishing and watching his son race.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 23, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana, with a visitation one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Rev. Ian Heinze will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana. VFW Post #6408 and American Legion Post #138 will provide military rites.
Memorial donations may be made in Jimmie’s name to Mason District Hospital Med/Surg Department. Online condolences can be left for his family at www.hurleyfh.com.
