Quin S. Mayhew

Quin Steven Mayhew, 43, of Dunfermline passed away on February 4, 2024 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born to Richard and Judy (Brock) Mayhew in Pekin, Illinois on May 24, 1980. Quin was a 1998 graduate of Canton High School and attended Spoon River College and Western Illinois University. He married the love of his life and soul mate, Angela Munger, on September 2, 2006 in Florida. The couple met at Canton High School where they became close friends through the Building Trades program. They started dating after graduating from high school and moved to Florida where they worked together installing cabinets before moving back to Illinois to start their family. They were known for their hospitality and hosted numerous holiday family get-togethers that included both sides of their families, as well as close friends.

Quin was a loving and wonderful father to Nick and Charlie. He supported his boys in pursuing their interests and was always present at their activities including archery, basketball, football, track, and scholastic bowl. Quin was also active with his children as a Scout Leader in both Cub Scouts Pack 124 and BSA Troop 124. Some of his favorite activities included quality time spent with his family camping, fishing, Kayaking, and taking trips to Florida, Wisconsin Dells, and Branson, MO.

Quin was an active member of his community who never knew a stranger. He and his wife served as youth leaders at Eastside Nazarene for several years. He coached YMCA youth basketball for his nephew and sons. He served as an alderman for the City of Canton for many years before moving to Dunfermline where he served on the Dunfermline Village Board. Quin was a current member of the Youth Acres Board and an active member of Giant Goose Ranch. He was also a member of the Fulton County Democrats. Quin was a Christian who had a true gift of service and a heart to help others in need. He was an active volunteer for his friends, family, and community. His acts of kindness were widespread and will be fondly remembered.

Quin’s career included starting his own cabinet installation business in Florida before moving back to Illinois and continuing his own businesses including Timeless Kitchen and Bath and A+ Home Inspections. Quin enjoyed working with his hands and was able to identify and repair most issues related to homes and vehicles. This is a skill that he passed down to his children who served as his assistants for many of his projects. Quin was also employed as a bus driver for the Canton Union School District where he enjoyed interacting with both his co-workers and the students on his route.

Quin made the world around him a better place through his selfless acts and generosity. His positive impact will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and the entire community. We pray that his legacy lives on in the lives that he touched.

Quin was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Peggy (Paul) Putney, and Arthur (Pauline) Brock, and his paternal grandparents, Richard K. and Mildred Mayhew. Surviving are his wife, Angela and sons, Nicholas (15) and Charlie (12) Mayhew; his parents Richard and Judy Mayhew of Canton; two brothers, Eric (Julie) Mayhew of Charles City, Iowa and Ryan (Keli) Mayhew of Dunlap, Illinois. Also surviving are five nephews, six nieces, and two great-nieces.

A visitation will be held on Friday, February 16, 2024, from 4-7 pm at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton. A funeral will follow on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 10 am at the funeral home. Burial will be held at Highbridge Cemetery in Dunfermline.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Quin Mayhew Memorial Fund C/O Mid America National Bank for an education fund for his children, Nicholas and Charlie Mayhew.
