Robert E. Peters

Robert E. Peters, 90, of Lewistown passed away at 11:50 a.m. on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at Renaissance

Care Center in Canton. He was born on March 31, 1933 in Oakford, Illinois to Roy R. and Effie Evelyn
(Pedigo) Peters. He married Anita Moss on May 29, 1955 in Oakford. She preceded him in death on
May 27, 2023.
Mr. Peters is survived by his seven children, Kathryn (Jason) Baker of Lewistown, Robert Dean (Debbie)
Peters of Petersburg, Angela Neteler of Havana, Carol Jean Sisson of Kilbourne, Evelyn (Bill) West of
Lewistown, Nancy Fields of Arlington, Texas, and Melissa (Brian) Thompson of Lewistown; sixteen
grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren, three step great-grandchildren, one great-great
granddaughter, one step great-great grandson; as well as Roy Lee Peters, a nephew, whom he raised.
He is also survived by his sister, Sharon Rockwell of Paragould, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by
his parents, wife, grandson, Shane Brandon Neteler, and siblings, Roy Elbert Peters and Roberta
Simpson.
Mr. Peters was a member of Lewistown United Methodist Church. He served in the Army in Korea from
1952 to 1954. He was a member of the American Legion in Lewistown and several Saddle Clubs, and
was a 4-H leader in Fulton County for many years. He enjoyed gardening and trail riding, and always had
a pony on a lead to teach kids to ride. He was a hard-working man and loved his kids and grandkids. He
worked for Caterpillar for 28 years before retiring in 1992. He previously worked for Stevens John Deere
in Petersburg and worked for several farmers in Menard and Fulton counties over the years.
A visitation will be held on Monday, June 26, 2023 at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana from 5:00 p.m. to
7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at Lewistown United Methodist
Church at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Bill Bunnage will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Oak Hill Cemetery
in Lewistown.
Memorial donations may be made in Mr. Peters name to Lewistown United Methodist Church,
Parkinsons Research Foundation, or Buckhart Fire Department. Online condolences can be left for his
