Canton-Thomas G. Skinner, 76, passed away
January 10, 2018 at 3:50pm surrounded by his loving family at Graham Hospital
in Canton, Illinois.
Tom was born on December 13, 1941 in Canton,
Illinois to George and Florence (Smith) Skinner. They preceded him in death,
along with his sister- Jane (Skinner) Trobaugh, brother- Roger Skinner, and
sister-in-law Phyllis (Leonard) Kovachevich.
He married Shirley Buyan on May 14, 1966 in
Saint David, Illinois. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Monica
(Scott) Wright of Mapleton, Mary (Matteo) Taffa of Columbia, MO, one
granddaughter, Claire Wright, one brother, Ronald (Janice) Skinner of East Peoria,
and two sisters- Donna (Gale) Beadles of Lewistown, and Vicky (Elmer) Servis of
Canton, one sister-in-law, Barb (Gene) Craig of Houston, Texas and several
nieces and nephews.
He graduated from Canton High School- class of
1959. He played baseball, football, and basketball for Canton High School. He
served in the United States Army. He retired from Ameritech (Peoria, Illinois)
in 1998. Following retirement, he worked for the Fulton County Assessor’s
Office. He was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Canton,
Illinois. He was also a member of the Third Degree-Knights of Columbus and the
American Legion. He loved bowling, golf, traveling, and spending time with his
family.
A visitation will be held on Monday, January
15, 2018, from 8:30-11 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Canton followed by a
mass of Christian burial at 11am. Father Daniel Ebker will officiate.
Cremation rites have been accorded and a
private burial of the ashes will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Canton.
Oaks-Hines Funeral Home is assisting the
family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can
be made to: St. Mary’s Altar and Rosary, St. Mary’s Food Pantry, or St. Mary’s
Church.
