Roger Motsinger
Roger Motsinger, 77, of Clinton, Illinois passed away 5:53 PM January 1, 2018 surrounded by his family with their loving devotion at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, IL.
Masonic services will be 12:00, Noon Saturday, January 6, 2018 with religious services to follow with Rev. Fr. James Henning officiating at the Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL. Burial will follow at Oak Park Cemetery, Clinton, IL with Military Honors. Visitation will be 10:00 AM – 12:00, Noon at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Roger was born August 22, 1940 in Moline, IL the son of Russell and Lucille (Hummel) Motsinger. He married Janet M. Ginther following her graduation from nurses training in Canton, IL.
Survivors include his wife, Janet Motsinger, Clinton, IL; two daughters: Erika Motsinger (Thomas Lane) and Abby (Dave) Waters both of Clinton, IL; two grandchildren: Sophia and Hudson Waters; sister-in-law, Virginia Motsinger, Canton, IL. Numerous nephews and a niece also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Gale Motsinger, Canton, IL.
Roger lived in Canton, IL for 33 years and graduated from Canton High School in 1958. Roger was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Clinton, IL. He served in the Army Security Agency in Frankfurt and Bad Aibling Germany 1961-1963 at the rank of Specialist 5. Roger graduated from Spoon River College (A.A.), Western Illinois University (B.A.) and the University of Illinois at Springfield (M.A.). He was employed at Caterpillar Inc. for 35 years and retired from the Decatur plant in 1999 as Safety, Security and Training Manager. He held numerous human resources positions in the Peoria corporate office and the Mapleton, IL foundry.
Roger served as alderman on the Canton, IL city council 1977-1981 and the Canton Chamber of Commerce Board of directors. He was the past president of the Central Illinois Personnel Association in Springfield and Business Health Roundtable in Decatur. Roger was chair of the Advisory Committee of the Decatur office of the Illinois Department of Rehabilitation and the vice president of the Clinton, IL Human Resources Center board of directors and vice president of the John Warner Hospital Foundation in Clinton.
Roger was Past Exalted Ruler of the Clinton Elks Lodge and a member of the Canton, IL American Legion and the Morningstar Masonic Lodge also in Canton.
