Cuba-James “Ed” Shields, 79, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2018, at his residence.
He was born on January 14, 1939, in Cuba to Lloyd “Dick” and Minnie (Strode) Shields. They preceded him in death.
He married Connie Lawver on November 11, 1961. She survives.
Also surviving are three children, Terry (Rachel) Shields of Cuba, Debbie (Leon) Baker of Cuba, Jodi (Mike Wittenmeier) Shields of Cuba, four sisters, Evelou (Marvin) White of Ellisville, Dixie (the late Ronnie) Newton of Fairview, Pat (the late Jim) Dixon of Terre Haute, OH, Judy (the late George) Pilkington of Canton, nine grandchildren, Luke, Jace, Hunter, Dawson, Ethan, Nicole, Amanda, Samantha and Tyler and one great grandchild, Amelia.
Several Nieces and nephews also survive.
Ed owned and operated Shields Excavating and trucking before retiring in 1992. He enjoyed his morning coffee with the guys but most of all he loved spending time with his family.
He also was an avid animal lover and was known to take in all the strays that came his way.
A visitation will be held on Monday, January 22, 2018, from 4-6 pm, at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton with a funeral service to follow at 6pm at the funeral Home.
Cremation rites will be accorded following the service.
Memorials may be made to Fulton County Humane Society or Clayberg Nursing Home.
