Canton – Dorothea J. Vanderschoor, 97, of Canton, passed away at 8:00 AM on Friday, January 26, 2018 at Graham E.R. She was born on February 20, 1920 in Canton to Lloyd and Ruth (Lynn) McGinnis. She married Andrew Vanderschoor on April 18, 1947 in Canton. He preceded her in death on August 26, 2015.
Surviving is one brother, Allen (Rosalie) McGinnis of East Moline, IL, and several nieces and nephews.
Dorothea was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Leo and Scott McGinnis, and three sisters, Charlotte Schumaker, Lena McGinnis, and Merlin McGinnis.
Dorothea worked at Avery’s Furniture and later at The National Bank. She was a member of Shield’s Chapel United Methodist Church and also a member of Wee Ma Tuk Country Club and Canton Country Club. Dorothea was an avid golfer and Bowler.
Services will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, IL, where a visitation will be held from 10-11 AM. Pastor Emeritus Dean Austin will officiate. Burial will follow at White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton, IL. Memorials can be made to Shield’s Chapel United Methodist Church.
