Richard E. Chambers

Lewistown- Richard (Richy) Chambers, 75, of Lewistown, IL, passed away on Monday April 10th, 2023 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bloomington, IL surrounded by his loving family.


He was born to Howard and Alice (Chenoweth) Chambers on July 31, 1947. He is survived by his wife, Marcia (Shields) Chambers whom he married on April 26th, 1980. Also surviving are three children; Brett (Lisa Hebb) Chambers of Ipava, IL, Lana (Rhett) Farrell of Savoy, IL, and Eric Chambers of East Peoria, IL, five grandchildren, Chloe Chambers, Hayden Chambers, Tymber Chambers, Harper Farrell, and Kash Farrell, a great grandson, Zaelen Kleinlein, two brothers, Larry (Elaine) Chambers of Bernadotte, and Lee Chambers of Ipava, four sisters, Geraldine Myers of Farmington, Dorla Helle of Farmington, Judy Rench of Canton, and Lynn (Roy) Spangler of Bernadotte, and numerous nices & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Frank Chambers, a sister Connie Fields, and a great-grand-daughter, Oaklynn Maberry.


Richy was a proud Veteran of the United States Air Force, a member and past Commander of the Ipava American Legion Post 17, a member and past Commander of Lewistown VFW Post 5001 and a member of UAW Local 974. He recently received his 50 year membership pin for his membership at Ipava Masonic Lodge AF&AM 213. Richy began his employment at Caterpillar after his return from Vietnam, retiring in 1995. He then held two terms as Lewistown Township Road Commissioner and most recently worked part time for Bernadotte Township. Richy was instrumental in starting the Fulton County Fireworks where he headed the committee for many years. He also was instrumental in starting Camp Ellis Days where he also served as chairman. He loved being with his family and friends, baking cookies, working on Township roads and was known for helping others.


Per Richy’s wishes there will be a public graveside service at 2:00 PM Saturday April 15th at the Ipava Cemetery where military services will be conducted by the Lewistown VFW Post 5001, the Ipava American Legion Post 17 and the US Air Force Honor Guard. There will be no visitation. A Masonic Service will also be held for family. Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lewistown VFW Post 5001, Ipava Americam Legion Post 17 or St. Judes.
