Raymond D. Hilton

Raymond D Hilton 82 of Energy, IL formerly of Canton passed away Saturday April 22, 2023 at his residence.


Raymond was born April 6, 1941 at home in Cuba, IL, the son of Harley O. Hilton and Grace M. (Kisler) Hilton. He married Judith C. Evans on December 10, 1960 in Mediapolis, IA. Raymond is survived by his wife Judith of Energy, two daughters Lori (Roy) Reinhold of Carterville, IL, Tammy (Russell) Castagnoli of Maricopa, AZ. Six grandchildren, Kristen Gray of Herrin, IL , Lyndsay Grove of Herrin, IL, Zachary Chapman of Arizona, Taylor Sisk of Canton, IL, Alexandra Sisk of Farmington, UT; Madisyn (Sisk) Brandon White of Seven Springs, NC. Three Great Grandchildren, Joselyn Gray of Japan, Jace and Jaxon Gray of Herrin, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and nine brothers.


He was born and raised on the family farm and attended Canton High School, Canton, IL. Raymond retired from Freeman United Coal Company at Buckheart Coal Mine Canton, IL, and also Crown Three Coal Mine at Farmersville, IL. He worked construction for Vernon Garretts Construction Company of Canton, IL, and AEH Construction of Galesburg, IL. Raymond was a member of the UMWA of America, Laborers Local 231 Pekin, IL; and the Canton Moose. Raymond loved feeding the birds, squirrels and deer that frequented his yard. He loved animals. He was an avid St Louis Cardinals fan, and loved to play cards, dominos, go bowling, old automobiles, auto auctions, listening to music, the Grand Old Opry, and TV music shows. He never met a stranger. Ray was a people magnet. He would talk to anyone. People were drawn to him. He was well known for his work ethic, kindness, his Practical Jokes, and Orneriness. Raymond liked to keep busy. He went above and beyond to help family and neighbors in need. He helped deliver food with the local food pantry and loved spending time with his family and friends.


Cremation has been accorded. A visitation will be held Tuesday May 2, 2023, from 5-7 pm at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown. A graveside service will be held at Cuba Cemetery, Wednesday May 3, 2023, at 10:00 am. Memorial contributions can be made to American Cancer Society, or National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
